I simply won't spend $50 and commit to $15 a month blindly especially when previous developers have rightly spoiled us.
Get a better job.
Raggin on Mythic because they actually have the numbers at hand to fill their servers to capacity and dont require an open beta makes perfect sense.
Open betas are a dead model, with the size of clients pushing 10gbs its alot of bandwidth to distribute.OB is fine for korean ports that at max push 2 gbs.
As for EA who cares they are the publisher,if they were the deveoper I woulda been scared.
WaR is more then ready for release and 30 days is plenty of time to work out any login issues that may arise from a couple hundred thousand players.
I think people being uncertain about any MMORPG thats hyped up being crap is actually vaild. It really doesnt need to be spoken but it is vaild. I've wasted alot of money on MMORPGs that was crap from start and ended up not playing thru first free month.
1. Asherons Call 2
2. Vanguard
3. Anarchy Online (Got good later, but at first was just a mess)
4. Star wars galaxies
From what I read Age of Conan is along those lines but I didnt try that one.
Its pretty much become the standard of MMoRPGS to be released as crap. Example Everquest 2. When it was released it was buggy as hell, alot of problems, and really wasn't much fun. Though I don't currently play it I would say it maybe top 3 mmorpgs out there. Simply put they rush these games, its became what is common instead of what is rare.
With that said, I have been following this game like many of you for a long time. As I did Vanguard (I started following that game the day sigil opened up their website for their company). Finding out an mmorpg is doing away with a bunch of content, then turning around next month and saying "Hey, its coming out next month!" does make one pause.
I really want this game to be gold, I think the game will be ok with need of polishing (Not 6 months of patches to make it beta quality like Vanguard needed). I don't expect a WoW killer anymore than DAoC was a EQ killer. They both were great games for their time. I expect basically same thing with WoW and WaR.

What does not wasting money have to do with the kind of job I have? Ever met a truly wealthy person? They're the worst kind of penny pinchers. I don't throw money away. As far as their servers go it remains to be seen.

I can attest to this. Rich people get their money by pinching it. I for one would rather buy what I want than die and take it all with me. If I can get 20+ hours out of a $50.00 game I consider it well spent.

When I first heard of war it sounded exactly like what I'd been wanting. I'd been playing wow for awhile and wanted more pvp focus / content and a grittier world. Warhammer sounded like the answer. Now if it somehow turned out to be polished in every area (graphics, sound, etc), was engaging and immersive in questing and lore and had great character doing justice to the warhammer IP, then... somehow the pvp was so central that it stood all on it's own. Inotherwords imagine pvp being so fun that you almost didn't need the other elements of the game and leveling and gear was simply a means to an end and not the whole point (I thought this was how wow was going to be. Turns out people live for upgrading their damn slot and never feel the need to put it to any use pvping). If anyone has ever gotten addicted to an online combat game like BF 1942 you'll know what I'm trying to say. You can just play the same 5 maps all week long because the action and competition is so fun. So leveling and gear would be secondary to pvp somehow. I'd totally get into it and take back every word I've ever said about war.
On the other hand, if it turns out to be a wah wah don't stand so close to me! Oh but look at my new thingy! Order totally sucks at pvp because that's where all the kids and girls go and they're all fricking panseys instead of wanting to get in there and just murder the other team and actually look at the map and use their heads then forget it. Or worse mythic is just trying to make a quick buck and capitalize on people who want what I just described then may it die 1000 deaths.

50$ for 2 months of game time (1 month OB) 3 day head start and 2 in game items, like I said if you think thats wasting money you need a better job cause mmos aint gonna get cheaper.
But some people are happier whining about a game then actually playing it.
I have never had a problem supporting game developers
I'll say this: I've purchased a half dozen MMO's, and not one of them did I purchase without playing open or closed beta first. I'm not going to "wait and see" if its worth buying based on other peoples opinions.
Joeyfishcake - You can also add Pirates of the Burning Sea to that list too.
Sadly, the monthly subscription has put me off completly. Unless this game has a flawless release and it is virtually a flawless game and takes the #1 online gaming spot (yes that also means depossing warcraft) with the 1st 3mths of release, then the monthly price would be justified. I cannot see that happening at all. SoE games (any) = £9.49 per month, with a choice to play on EU and US servers. (this is also my top notch monthly price i would pay, for an online game) i have other bills to pay too. Blizard = £8.99 (fair price for warcraft, but getting a bit dull). Lord of the rings online (£8.99/£9.49 not sure which it is) again way lower than War's. Not sure how much AoC costs, waiting for feedback and the feedback was someone poor for the game so bypassed it, though think the price was also around teh £9.49 for it. if it was more than would have put many potential players off.
Now someone said War's is the standard pricing for any online MMO, when i asked which others charge that i never and still have not had an answer. Sorry, but pricing is too much for the game, greediness of developers = lose potential customers. Had a discussion in the 3 diff guilds i am in on various other online games and 93% said the same thing with 2% still going over to it and 5% undecided/didnt say much. We are also from Europe
I myself am a bit dissapointed on a game i have been waiting on, was also going to take 1 last plunge and go for a game without testing it in some form or another before purchasing (blame the load of utter shite that has been released for that decision) but the pricing put me off. UK - £10.31 (possibly have to add V.A.T onto that price at 17.5%) which would be more than likely as .31 is someone strange to have. This would take it to roughly £12 (£2.51-£3.01 over my maximum price)
I'll answer your "which others charge that" question. Uhm....ALL of the major MMOs charge that. WAR's subscription price is EXACTLY the same as WoW, CoH, DAoC, LoTRO, EVE, EQ2....and any other game that isn't presently in the forefront of my mind.
There ya go.
ALL major MMOs that are pay to play, charge what WAR is charging.
Where you are getting all those added amounts of money to the subscription amount....I have no clue. ALL the major MMOs on the market right now charge $14.99 per month (USD) with charges decreasing incrementally for more than ONE month paid at a time. In other words, if you pay about 6 months at a time, it only costs like $12.99 (USD) per month.
I'm sorry, but you can EASILY spend that on going out to eat ONE time, or going to ONE movie. And for that amount of money I can pay for a month's worth of entertainment??!! I think MMOs are priced at BARGAIN basement prices. You could GET better entertainment value for the cost!!
It did cross my mind after reading your post again that you might actually be saying that Warhammer is going to charge you more because you are outside of the U.S.?? Is THAT what you're saying? IF so....where did you get these prices from? Can you link something on the WAR official site that says that WAR will cost more in Europe or something? Because....I don't recall ever seeing that any where.
Yes war is still $14.99 USD (same as all other US game prices) HOWEVER i am in EUROPE (UK) and warcraft per month is £8.99, all SoE games are £9.49 as well as LOTRO, POTBS, AoC and others. BUT HOWEVER as i have STATED war (warhammer) is £10.31 per month (and it is unknown whether the 17.5% VAT will be added onto that yet). Were did they get that price from which is too much and makes it the HIGHEST EVER ONLINE MMO SUBSCRIPTION GAME or is the price for us in EUROPE been jumped up. As i said GREEDINESS by the DEVELOPERS = LOSS of CUSTOM. If you US oplayers had the same price then you would be paying at least $21 a month.
So now tell me what other GAMES charge that price as so far you did not answer my question, if you even bothered to read my previous post that you replied to!.
Since when was raising the subscription rate greedy? Generally they have to every few years to keep up with inflation of costs. In a few years itll be 25 dollars a month, mark my word For now though Im plenty happy with WARs. Im american though, Sucks to be a euro is all I can say.

Well, I will agree with you, no MMO that I'M aware of, at least here in the U.S., costs 21 USD a month. But, apparently, that's just how much it's going to be for the EU version of the game, and I have NO idea why it's higher for you all over there. I'm sorry....that DOES suck.

£10.31 is that the same in euros? or is it just more in the U.K maybe? Either way... I doubt just PLAIN greediness would be the cause of an arbitrary increase like that... They must have some need for it, like to meet there financial goals for that region. Either way I agree that someone shouldn't have to pay more just because they live in Europe. It seems Europeans already pay extra for many other things(mmmm gas).
