I trust my judgement. Blizzard makes great games. And yes they are new to the MMORPG world but if you take the time to look at all the in game videos the PLAYERS not the DEVS are producing youll see how much fun the game really is. Id rather see how the game is from the players perspective and not the devs perspective cuz the devs will spew anything at you to buy/play their games and thats basicly what SoE is doing with EQ2. Only things ive seen come from the devs in EQ2 about the game are...
1) Unparalled Char Customization (So far its not all that)... 2) Awesome graphics...Ill give EQ2 this... Armor/weapons/world graphics are awesome the best ive seen in a MMO... char models however are NOT. No one can run the game smoothly at highest setting PERIOD right now which is a big minus IMO. 3) VoiceOvers ... Ive seen some alpha ingame vids with some voice overs... its kinda nice but gets annoying after awhile cuz the voice acting is kinda bad (Ex the Boat Captain in the tutorial) 4) No PvP at retail.... I dont even know where to begin where they are going wrong here. Just doesnt make ANY sense to me.
I have yet to see any gameplay vids cuz its still in friends and family beta with NDA so its like we are being kept in the dark. With WoW you see everything WoW has to offer and can make your own judgements and not play a game based on what the devs hype the game out to be. Untill I see ingame video from players themselves I dont trust a damn thing the devs from SoE say right now. *Still has SWG nightmares about the Jedi holocron grind fest fiasco* *shudders*
This wasnt ment to be a WoW vs EQ2 post in anyway just explaining to him why I "Trust" blizzard and not "Trusting" SoE atm.

Just for all the next posters.. most of the people posting about how dissappointed they are with the CC are not saying they will not buy the game because the char looks bad...
They are saying more or less the following:
SOE over marketed the CC with statements far from the truth (unparallelled, recognize friend by their char, etc) SOE is known for not living up to their promises, and after seeing the CC, old (not so nice) past experiences are coming to mind... Most of the posters are not saying the game will suck, or the CC sucks.. they say there are quite a few areas needing improvement..
SO.. some final words...
Its up to you wether you buy it or not....

Comparing looks of EQ to EQ2 is pointless since EQ is quite old..
Comparing EQ2 to WOW is not really the point of the thread.
And finally.. to those thay say things like "The graphics are great, lets see you do them better" well if the customers can do a better job than the developers then SOE has a really bad problem dont u think ? That link was a simple solution to what SoE could do to make the models look slightly better. They just need to change the postures of the models mainly IMO and Ill be happy.... no one wants to play a hunched over warrior who looks like he couldnt even lift his sword or looks "lazy".
I think it's a bit foolish to put something so obviously incomplete in as a bonus for preordering. They could have simply made it available for download, and put a more feature complete CC in a month or two, and really shown people what they were about, but yet again they go for the quick buck, and end up with a horde of pissed off people making a ruckus.
It's like deja vu with them, from EQ to now. You'd think they'd learn somewhere along the line. And if they are incapable, you'd think the fans would. Particularly after what happened with SWG.
And the hairstyles were pretty funky for DE's. However, you will all learn to fear my Gnome of Doom. He looks frighteningly like Lance Henrikson. Only as a Gnome.

Based on that, yes you are correct. However, you are missing the point sir. SOE promised us a CC unparalled (their word) to other mmorpg. While it was decent, it certainly wasnt better than CoH or SWG by far. Also, SOE said the toon would be so unique that I would be able to recognize him without looking at the name. Honestly I dont know when the CC details were hyped by SOE. I dont follow their boards that much. However, there is one post over there that talks about the disappointment of the CC. SOE responded to a question "is this CC what we can expect to see at launch ?" and the answer was, "yes" The CC besides a few small tweaks to color pallete wont be changed. What you see now is what you'll get for the game.
I dont think it was all that bad really. Hair styles were funky and someone provided a link that had side by side pics that showed a way to improve hair. I just worry that SOE will end up overhyping and not following through like they have on the past. This CC just brought back a lot of bad memories from swg... brrr.

But, have we considered that EQ2 is 500 years past EQ1. Isn't having different appearances kind of the same as AO having different appearances than what we have now? Why should all races look just like EQ1...what would be the point?
Anyway, I am aware of SOEs rep and have experienced it first hand (see SWG first para above). So, I too hope they get it right!
I agree with a lot of the concerns brought up in this thread about the CC presell disk for EQ2. The human male models were atrocious, but I thought most of the others were good if not outstanding. I agree that the females look a bit dumpy 'n frumpy, but their postures seem to improve in the gameplay videos while walking (and talking). I'm willing to bet that SoE puts in different "idle" animations for characters that are at-rest.
I can totally agree on the hair. Though I think the issues concerning the dark hair color had something to do with the lighting in the CC- the sky is red and illuminated by both water-reflections and the burning Luclin in the sky. The hair does look unnatural and it seems dubious that a game like EQ2 with its technical superiority over other previously released games could not accomplish loose long hair styles while other "older" games were able to do so successfully, even triumphantly.
However, on the good side, I think SoE did allow for a startling number of customization options and I was, generally, able to create the character I wanted (with the exception of the human male). I thought the characters' eyes were outstanding, as well as the options for age and cheek-fullness that added a lot of distinction to faces.
While not perfect, the character creation for EQ2 is head-and-shoulders above other "next-gen" MMOs such as Lineage II, Asheron's Call 2, Final Fantasy XII, and the slew of Asian MMORPGs.
Nothing is perfect. What EQ2 lacks in CC (which is very little) it more than makes up for in story, system, and implementation (as far as I can tell from what has been released).
