Is this game any good?

Will start by saying that I won't even listen to the trolls.

What I want to know is if this game is any good. I heard that people say it's an awesome PvE game and would like to try it myself but want to hear what others say about this game.

I will even insert a poll for LOTRO people can vote.

It really depends on what you want from an MMO.  To me LOTRO shines in the fact that it is like a story that is unfolding before your eyes.  The cut scenes (between events) are well thought out and give depth to the game.  The combat system and crafting system are not anything out of the ordinary, but each are enhanced by group play.

My only thing is that at this time there are no new servers to play on and given that it is hard to find a consistent group to run with to advance your character, there is room to solo a lot of the game, but some things require a group to complete in a timely fashon.  You best bet is to game with 2-3 friends or to read the server forums and decide on a guild that you think will assist you with low level play.  All in all I think it is a 7.5 to 8.0 out of 10, it is a good game especially if you have read the books and can follow along as the story unfolds.

Voted yes, been ingame since closed beta and still enjoying it. Best way to find out is to give it a trial. I recommend you to level up to at least lvl20 and grouping to get better scope of the game, testing different classes might be wise as well.

Anyways LotRO is one of the best PvE experiences available at the moment, with a company that seems to be knowing what they are doing.

But what about those of us Who dont care about the LOTR Universe?

I liked the Hobbit Book and Watched the 3 Movies But its only a Neet side storry to the world IMO and I really HATE meating Hero chars in a MMO... A king or something i can kinda Understand, A GM played Char to Adv a storry, Sweet. But Froto Standing in a city asking for help would just piss me off

Yeah I know im weard But Some parts Look awsome then i read about other parts and just Nodd off.

And the Group Crafting thing, Plz Explain, Is it like Vanguard Where the more people helping Harvest  inproves your Product? Or just a Chating thing?

I really liked the game, but didn't feel compelled to keep playing it past a couple of months.

Thought the graphics were gorgeous personally, the landscapes and water were damn nice.  One of those games where you just want to go around the map for the sake of seeing new vistas, if your PC is strong enough ofc.

The animations and combat were nothing I haven't seen before but felt fine, not too clunky but not entirely fluid, they did fine.

Played all the classes to level 20 at least to get a feel for them and thought there was a decent enough variety between them all, I stuck with my Burglar and Champion mostly as I like the "feel" of those two classes the best.

The pacing through the early parts of the game was strong enough to keep you enticed into wanting to open up more of the questlines and got you exploring around the world fairly quickly, a few interesting "non combat" quests that keep you entertained like delivering pies and running errands in the Shire etc...

Didn't mess with pvp or play it enough to get into any sort of end-game so can't speak to those.

The auction house and crafting were easy enough to get into, again nothing new there really but some nice quirks such as being able to grow your own tobacco and blow various smoke rings with the different varieties.  Being able to play music with various instruments was another interesting touch.

I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the game to anyone as I personally think it's pretty slick and worth playing, but again can't really speak to any sort of pvp or endgame experiences as I wasn't captivated long enough to get into it.  I guess the drawbacks for me were burning myself out playing all the classes  and running all the beginner zones so many times over.  I did hit a point where I got bored just playing the game (to the point of falling asleep at the PC) but I'm sure if I had just chosen a main and stuck with it then I could have seen some more impressive things.

The game has alot of charm I would say try it out definately.  They had some free trial available at some point dunno if that's still going on or not, but if so it will give you a good idea of what it has in store.

14-days free trial so just download it and see what you think yourself :)

    If WoW = The Beatles
    and WAR = Led Zeppelin
    Then LotrO = Pink Floyd

    And as for this, lol
I am a real life hunter so i skin alot of animals, mostly deer. If someone is helping me skin one, dont you think it might go a little fast? hmmmm..... And hell you might learn something about skinning with the help of a buddy.

But as far as i know there is nothing like that in lotro. Just VG

I currently have a lvl 21 hunter and lvl 6 guardian, so far I really enjoy the game. I have yet to see one bug, except the rubberband issue when book 14 was release but that was fixed quickly. Someone above said that it is hard to find a group and stick with it, this is not true at all. I have around 10 friends in my friends list that I group with all the time, and the community is the most mature community in the entire genre. If none of those friends are online I can usually find a group in less than 5-10 minutes, anyways give it a shot I played the free trial and subbed after 3 days lol.

LOTRO is a great game, if you are interested in an excellent PvE experience.

The characters have a lot of depth to them, and there are a number of outstanding storylines to pursue.  It's just a lot of fun, in my opinion.

The community is outstanding as well.

Yes, it's a good game.  That said it's not for everyone.  IMO you have to really be into LOTR lore and what have you.  I enjoyed my time in the game, both PvE and PvP, but it wasn't for me in the long run.  The graphics are good, quest line keep you going, end game is a bit soft, and the PvP area could be a bit bigger.  I would recommend the game to anyone that is looking for a casual type of game as well, even though more and more MMORPGs are heading that way.  if you can pick this up for ~20$, it's worth a try.

I suggest reading all the quests and don't rush throw the content. If you follow these steps you will enjoy 100% the game

The epic quest line is the key of the great PvE of LOTRO.

Oh and one positive thing more, despite having fair population, at least my server in Euro has been pretty much gold seller spam free for a while now. Dunno how Turbine is doing at US side though. Having a company that fights RMT is a big plus in my books.

Not so good in the US, I see gold spammers every now and then. I just /report them though and they disappear :).

As a Lord of the Rings fan I enjoyed it, as a game player I was dissapointment.  I found the combat system, the quests, and even the shitty crafting to be exactly like WoWs except Tolkienized.  Now I know that is probably why most people love it but I simply didn't have fun with WoW's style of things and LotRO was pretty much a WoW clone in LotR clothing.

On a postivie note I have yet to play a more beautiful MMO then LorRO.  The graphics were so stunning they were almost addicting (imo) I would find myself sitting in flower bed watching birds fly overhead and just be mesmerized.

Despite this however I found the character models of all the player races rather shitty and poorly done.

If you enjoy Quest-grinding ( Theres a heck lots of them here) and boring combat ( seriosly, one can fall asleep pushing same buttons over and over again) - this is a game for you.

If you enjoy some excitment, acomplishment and ability to use your braines, then look else-where.

Now that made me laugh. Compare to old games like WoW, LOTRO have minimum to 0 character depth in it.  If you picked a Guardian, he will be a guardian untill the end. Same go's for all the other 6 classes. At least in WoW you had some choice of what your character might become, in here its just straight forward.

And what storylines? You just follow one straight storyline. Not to mention you already know how its going to end.

Dont make the flashy/bug-free graphics fool you. The game is boring.

After long thinking I voted boring. Not that everything is boring, there are many good and nice things, but overall I felt LOTRO was more a snack, like fast food. I loved the story telling and I am a great LOTR books fan, but the game... As a MMO it was way to less complex and demanding for me. Too few different races for a MMO, most classes are not really thrilling to play, and strangely the great setting is hardly ever used for roleplay. I found most rush through, since levels come ultra fast. It felt like a very, very great museum. Something I loved to get through once, and visit all the famous places, but nothing I felt excited to be in a longer time.

Leveling 1-50 was pretty fun. However, Turbine has relied on making alts as new content and that doesn't fly with me... once you've maxed out deeds and quests on one character, you're done imo... unless of course you like rolling alts, which I would say that most of the LoTRO community does...
