I am very happy that I got my invite to CB, yesterday morning. So I started the torrent, I have now been downloading for a day and a half and I'm at 31%. WOW this is soooo slow. I'm using roadrunner turbo, wich is normally smokin fast so why am I getting 14 to 60k on avg download. I tried some of the tweaks for torrent but no help.
A lot and i mean a lot of service providers monitor torrents and consider it illegal. You have a good chance of using up your allowed bandwidth for the month using torrents. If you do go over the limit they will severely limit your bandwidth and can and will issue a warning against torrents. You are allowed to use upload and download as you see fit ,however you are NOT allowed to share your bandwidth, witch is what torrents do.This is not the case with all service providers but a lot are against it nowadays.
A way i found around it was to change the port your torrent is using, because like i said some providers put blocks or limit bandwidth through certain ports, especially the well known ports used.So if the torrent is using say port 5555 change to either end of the spectrum like 1111 or 8888,try a few until maybe you get lucky .If this doesn't do the trick then you could of course try to take off all limits for uploading.Yes you will be uploading a lot of bandwidth, witch is why torrents blow ,but this would be your only other chance to get a great d/l speed.I have seen no difference at all over the years based on leechers or seeders,it never seems to make a difference.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

Haha....
Ok. This is just downright wrong, sorry. I couldn't help but correct this. For one, providers aren't blocking according to ports, but to what the payload is, ie. they check the header of the packet. You can set the port to whatever you like, but it's still not going to bypass any sort of filtering your ISP may or may not do. Also, increasing your upload limit will most times decrease your download limit. Doing what you say will actually slow your downloads down. Ideally, your upload limit should be 80% of the maximum observed rate. This will ensure the most effiency of your upload/download speed.
Also, you should leave the file shared even after you've downloaded the file for about 24 hours. This is simply to be cool to everyone who downloads it afterwards and allow them to download faster as well.
Part of the problem is that people don't quite understand what "seeding" means.
It doesn't mean "sharing the file by uploading while you download". It means "keep sharing for days or weeks after you finish the download".
Too many people think they've done their part and simply close their torrent software after the download is finished. Hence the long times for everyone else. A good rule of thumb is that for every hour you download, spend 10 more hours uploading so that your download-to-upload ratio is as close to 1.0 as possible.
i found this on VN boards posted by Cideous. I hope this can help some of you out.
1.) Uninstall UTorrent.
2.) Google and get "FlashGet". I am using 1.9.6.
3.) Install it and let it configure its windows connection.
4.) Drop Warbits on. You should be getting like .5kb per second up and download lol
5.) <The easy part> The 5th button over from the left is the "Properties" button. Click it.
6.) It pulls up 1 simple page with two tabs. General and Advanced. Click advanced.
7.) At the bottom there are two little boxes: Max up load and max download with little clicky arrows. Both boxes should say "unlimited" on both. If you have dsl with about 512 download then set the download at about 400. Set the upload at 20. Click ok and go back to the main page.
On the very bottom right VERY bottom right of the main page it will now list your current download and upload speed. Mine went from .5kb/sec to 350-450kb per sec down <I have 750kb/sec pipe so I set my down at 450kb/sec and 20kb/second up>. I went from a 1 year download to 11 hours. I already have got 18% done and should be done around midnight tonight.
And this was without ANY port forwarding or setting static IP BS that the guide said to do.
p.s. My son is also sitting right next to me on his rig playing Unreal Tournament 3 and I am still pegging 450kb/sec
THANK YOU!!!! I went from 20-50kbs to almost 200 by doing this. Still not great but much better and faster!
Sure with that would work for me. The patcher idea...well it didnt work. They fixed it so you cant use it or something. Keep getting missing files message. (worked last night but not when I got home in the am from work. Anyway I did what this guy said and I'm getting even slower speeds than Utorrent was getting which isnt saying much at all.

I'm getting so tired of this. I use uTorrent all the time, never had any problems with it. Always have really good download speeds, at least 200 kB/s, usually quite a bit higher. But I've sitting around 40 or less since I started yesterday afternoon. I gon't get why it's going so slow, I know people are getting good speeds, so why aren't I?
Edit: And oh yeah. I tried that Flashget idea someone posted. When I altered the download and upload speeds it jumped to 15, then dropped back down to nothing. So in otherwards, it was a TON worse than uTorrent, and uTorrent is sucking pretty bad right now.

Try flashget again. I saw the same thing you did and said "screw it im sick of pissing with this crap" so I just let it go. About 5 min later I looked and I'm getting an average of 250 now with spikes going up to 400ish every once in a while but its no longer dipping below 200. So long story short, it took about 5 min to ramp up for some reason but once it did I'm getting MUCH better downloads with flash than I was utorrent (and like you, I never had problems with Utorrent before this).
Tried it again, let it run for about an hour. It never got any better than uTorrent did, unfortunately, I wish it would have suddenly sped up a ton like it did for some people.

Sorry to hear that dapper Untill the flashget started ramping up I was almost to the point of saying screw it I will just wait till I get disks. Well, probably not cause whats the point to a HS if I cant get the damn thing downloaded lol.
Yeah, it sucks. And about that offer from Aus, do you happen to have maybe invented teleportation? If not, thanks anyways! Lol. I have two friends that preorded CE with me, unfortunately (for me and them) they didn't get invited to the CB. If they had, maybe one of them would have gotten lucky and had decent download speeds, but no, I'm stuck on my own...

It took me 2 1/2 days to download from Bit torrent, average rate was about 65kb/sec. Then patching took another 2hrs, so be prepared.

I used bittorrent and I received it in about 8 hours.

I switched to bittorrent and my download speed doubled. Im hittin over 100k. I must of just had bad luck with utorrent.

I tried this method and now my speed is fluctuating rapidly. It will literally go from 50k all the way down to 10k then start all over again.
I friggin hate Comcast, they're a terrible ISP.
