Why did you quit your last MMORPG(s)?

What were the reasons that made you not want to play the game(s) anymore?  What bored you, or made you so disappointed or frustrated that it just wasn't fun anymore? I'm not really looking for answers like problems with ISP, real-life commitments, or the community - more along the lines of  "problems" with the game itself.

Personally, I find myself leaving games due to a lack of content, or content that's just so dull I don't look forward to logging in anymore.

I came back to WoW in February of this year due to a friend using the "rez scroll" on my account that gave me 10 days of play.  I came back to see if they did anything new, or different and ended up subscribing for an extra month after the initial 10 days.  I left because I found nothing exciting and realized why I left in the first place.

I played the game for quite some time, getting to 60 and then quitting.  When TBC droped I got it and played till I hit 70 on 2 different characters and again left because I didn't enjoy the raiding and the feel of having to show up as if it were a job.  I was looking for something else, something different and WoW did not have it.  Most of what I wanted was PvP with a sense of purpose and the battlegrounds just did not fulfill that need.  The game is overly oriented toward the "self" rather then the "collective", and I found the community to be less then adaquate.

No required quests! And if I decide I want to be an assassin-cartographer-dancer-pastry chef who lives only to stalk and kill interior decorators, then that's who I want to be, even if it takes me four years to max all the skills and everyone else thinks I'm freaking nuts. -Madimorga-

Quit WoW because I got tired of raiding and the game has little else to offer.

I quit Lord Of The Rings because real life is way too busy these days. No time for gaming ;(

Left WoW because I logged in three times and just walked around town doing nothing, enough reason to stop.

Looking forward to WAR =).. love to play a game where skill matters not gear, a.k.a. WoW

Left SWG because of the NGE. Been looking for a new fun MMO since then. Found nothing yet : (

Illius - Even though I'm more PvE oriented than PvP, I've run into that problem of "self" over "collective" too.  Even in situations like raiding where people have to work together to accomplish a goal, there's still usually an "out for yourself" mindset.  Do you think this is an innate problem with people in general, or do you think a game could actually find a way around this?

Venger - Why did you get tired of raiding? Was it like Illius's scenario, where it started to feel more like a job than fun? Or did it just start getting monotonous doing the same things over and over again? (ie, not enough content.)

Psymon - How come you just walked around towns and such? What were the things you liked to do when you were actually "playing" the game that you couldn't do anymore, or got bored with?

daarco - I'm pretty unfamiliar with SWG - What was it about the NGE that ruined the game for you?

I left a number of MMOs mostly due to getting bored with repititious content.  With WoW, the higher levels meant raiding and on the flipside, I did not enjoy having to coordinate with others to do an instance.  With a PUG, there would be fighting over loot, fighting over who is not doing their job, etc.

I'd also venture to say that this is a personal philosophy thing.  I like the idea of grouping and playing with friends every now and then, however I don't like to be forced to do it.  I'd rather it be the rare occasion rather than the norm.  Perhaps having both solo instances and group instances could be a solution?  I do like to play MMOs, as I do enjoy interacting with others in a virtual world, but I am definitely more of a loner.

I left because of all the armors being the same model and colors.

Who let you in the VIP section?

Mostly I quit an mmo because the game is no longer fun.  Either because the devs go and strip the game down to something really really sad and pathetic (swg) or because the gameplay gets dull and repetitive (wow).

    WoW:  Bored...as...hell.

    Paid Games:

AC2 - because the game nearly ended by Turbine and no new contents

Final Fantasy - DOn't know why, the game is not my type even though there were many sexy Japanese female players in the game

EQ2 - Don't like many servers, I mean a group portal to certain zone, you must specify server 1, 2,3, 4. And one other important thing made me quit was the fishing brothers stand on the pier looks too stupid. Hate the crafting system.

WOW - Constantly nerfed rogues and other classes, and sick of Molten Core because it took too long time to gather 40 ppl at same time. Also sick of Master Loot. Too many beggars in game.

DDO - Is it a MMO?

LOTRO - No new contents and don't like the reputation system and limited slots for skill. Not a exciting game. Hate monster PVP.

Pirates of the Burning sea - they should have released the game 5 years later.

Pirates of Caribbean Online - Awed by the name of Disney but it is no diffference from any other F2P.

    F2P:

Nearly installed all F2P for trial except no cartoon game for me. Those not mention here are not playable or poor quality or not my type.

9Dragons - Maybe good if they released in 1980.

    Rippelz - CTS maker

New sword of the world - it looks stupid to have always 3 characters at same time.

    Cabal Online - CTS maker

Last Chaos - poor graphics also a CTS maker

    4story - a little bit fresh

Talisman Online - Gambler's game <<< playing this one now

Next game for me is = 4story

    "CTS Maker"?

My first MMO was Star Wars Galaxies, and I quit that because of the NGE, plain and simple. If it wasn't for the NGE, I would probably still be playing today. Never got bored of that game.

Since the NGE, I have tried many MMO's, but only actually played 2.

Guild Wars I stopped playing because I had a lvl 20 of every single class and had beaten each campaign multiple times. Nothing really left to do.

WoW I haven't technically quit since my account is still active, but I pretty much stopped playing just because I was so bored of the endless grind.

Still looking for something to replace star wars galaxies.

Tried: LotR, CoH, AoC, WAR, Jumpgate Classic
    Played: SWG, Guild Wars, WoW
    Playing: Eve Online, Counter-strike
    Loved: Star Wars Galaxies
Waiting for: Earthrise, Guild Wars 2, anything sandbox.

Yeah started to feel like a job.  Had to be on at X time and stay for Y hours.  Plus the drama started creeping up.  Got bored running the same shit every week cause it takes so log to get the right gear to drop.

Raiding is a completely flawed design concept.

If MMORPGs started getting rid of raiding, what kind of PvE end-game content do you think they could design  that wouldn't have this "feels like a job" issue, and yet still continue some kind of progression?  Is there any sort of viable solution?  I mean, you could replace it with questing, but people would eventually run out of quests.  Dungeon-crawl grouping (or even soloing) would end up falling into the same repetitive category as raiding after time.  There's a always a finite amount of content a development team can create.  Once you reach max-level, what would you like to do max-level that would still be fun over a period of months?

    What do you think?

  • DuilyonDuilyon Member Posts: 326

WoW: dumbed down the content a lot, made all the classes the same and raiding was borring. Also ruined world PVP with Battle grounds.

Lord of the rings: Got bored at end game though it was fun for a long time. Just decided to wait till the expansion came out.

Vanguard: I have yet to quit >: D its too much fun!

Variety, problem with wow is raiding or pvp grinding is all it has to offer.

What could be offered along with raiding.

Player housing (UO), player cities (AoC), player controlled land both pve and pvp (AoC), a good non-combat system (crafting, fishing, etc.), live gm events pve and pvp,

I am not a fan of the gear centric philosophy.  My first MMO was DAoC and I got used to the idea that crafted stuff was at least on par with what you can get from mob drops and what not.  The crafting in WoW, in most of the cases was only to better oneself.  Most of the things you made that were actually "good" were bound on pickup, don't even get me started on BoP...  I think in general WoW appealed to a lot of people by doing everything well enough.  Nothing really stands out to me.  I'm still a firm believer that their PvP was an afterthought and thus never really evolved in the direction I think it should.

In regards to the "self" versus "collective" I'm inclined to say that it's perhaps the trend now with the latest generation of players coupled with the kind of games that are being put forth for consumption.  The game itself does not encourage a server wide community, but rather a smaller guild community.  Majority of the people close themselves off in their guild and just end up playing with the same people over and over again without experiencing the fun they could have with people they'd meet for the first time.  The way I see it, if they want to play end game where it's about 40 people in an instance then I'd suggest that the game designers just make the multiplayer instead of massively multiplayer and jsut have a diablo 2 style game where you can start one up, your guild of 40 or 60 players joins up,  you run the dungeon, get your shiny loot and tada you're done.  Then give all these people a room where they can walk around like Orgrimar, or Iron Forge so that they can parade around in their freshly acquired stuff and buy the small reagents needed for all their spells and abilities.  I think this would be more cost effective and would satisfy the raiding community in wow.

I could go on and rant about this stuff but it won't solve my current predicament of finding a game that appeals to my sensibilities.  Besides, this block of text is getting a bit too long.

No required quests! And if I decide I want to be an assassin-cartographer-dancer-pastry chef who lives only to stalk and kill interior decorators, then that's who I want to be, even if it takes me four years to max all the skills and everyone else thinks I'm freaking nuts. -Madimorga-

Left WoW a few weeks ago. Grindfest. You know the whole bit. Right now I'm looking forward to WAR. I've been hearing good things so far...rumors of patches that fixed a lot of the problems. Can't wait to play a Shadow Warrior in OB =)

I quit my last MMORPG because it was World of Warcraft.

Trammies need to stop polluting the MMORPG landscape. They already have enough games in which to emote hugs and sell garbage by the banks.

Dealt, was I, a mighty blow from the BanHammer.

I wanted another 70, but I didn't really feel like leveling myself.

I was so disgraced I couldn't bring myself to opening a new WoW account.

  • chryseschryses Member UncommonPosts: 1,453

I left Pirates of the Burning Sea....well too many reasons to list really.  It was also the quickest time from buying to quitting an mmo so it holds that record.

I have 4 other subs going and with WAR and hopefully DF and other MMO's coming out I need to think seriously about dropping Tabula Rasa and possibly one EVE Online account.

  • sigamonsigamon Member Posts: 230

I left a lot of games.

Nexus: Kingdom of the Winds - left cause eq came out

Everquest - Left after Omens of War launched and the zones turned into ghosts towns cause everyone and their mother was raiding 24/7.  Then returned late 2006 when progression servers came about, left when Realm of Insanity unlocked every expansion in a week.

DAoC - Left to go back to eq, didn't give it much time cause it wasn't as good as eq at launch

Everquest 2 - Played at launch for a month, quit. Came back with Faydark expansion, quit few months later. Horrible game.  Looks ok, has eq'ish elements. But mostly a crap ass wow clone.

DDO - Left cause none of my friends wanted to play lol. I really like it though, I had a lot of fun dungeon crawling.

WoW - Played cause my friends all did, HATED IT!!!!!!!!!!!!! quest grind your ass off, then go live in the BG forever. Plus the community their sucks arse

LoTRo - Ok game, just boring overall

SWG - Never got to play the original :( i came right when NGE hit. So i quit that day hahaha

Vanguard - got the CE at launch. quit a month later, and i was bitter as hell.  Recently went back for free trial and was very pleased. Id still be playing it but my girlfriends computer is the worst thing ever, cant run VG at all

Age of Conan - Tortage was fun, nice graphics, violence and tits always helps.  Got to end game and realised the game is a broken, stripped down POS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

EVE - freakin boring. i dont like floating around the universe alone

Guild Wars - to instanced, got to 20 in a day

CoH/CoV - Badass character customization, LOVE COMIC BOOKS! hate the repetitivness of the game, if they could make it were your not doing the same thing over and over the entire time you play id still be playing it

Matrix Online - Downloaded it, played it for 3 minutes, unistalled it

    and thats that.

    ----------------------

Thats the iseu of gamers these days, they need developers to make content for them, while in the first place a mmo (rpg) is in its most basic design a Roleplaying / comunity game.

Eve online is one exsample were they done it semi-good , they made a war system that let players desite there own content ( what player/sysem to attack/take over)

quest and grinds are in its most basic concept just a path to the end game, may that be roleplay or pvp war games.

its here were most games go horible wrong, they just keep adding dungeons and raids and grind for more super duper epic stuff .

mmo's never bin intended for the casual player and they never will be. games like AoC and WoW will get boring and people only stay becource they made some friends  making the game no more then a fancy chat room.

DaoC , shadow bane , eve online are games whit war systems,  those games "only"need to be updated every few years to keep in the high line of grapics. people only abandon these games for bad company moves and out dated grapics/game system.

swg is the same story but it has a great social comunity apeal.  again, people only leave deu to the all known bad company stuff and grapics.

Expansions and new contend is way over rated. they should invest more in a upgrade able engine for there games "module system" so that things keep in shape and players stay.

UO is still running and it would have had more gamers then wow now, If they would have rebuild there world into full 3D somewere in the past  5 / 10 years.

Left SWG afther 4 years for the all known SOE bullshit.

tried almost every other game out but either the game system were to far outdated or it bin to mutch of a grind.

next game in line : fallen earth, earth rise, darkfall (sssttt)
