all i have been hearing is CE CE CE CE and CE and pre-order over and over what about just ppl that dont have a CE and didnt pre-order? whats the deal? where is the love for us? i just want to know some info on "normal" ppl. when r they going to send out OB invites?

when open beta starts? or around the time it starts? i dunno....wild guess there...i am a rocket scientist after all.
I believe this is one of those situations that if you didn't pre-order there will be no "open beta" for you. There hasn't been an actual open beta in forever, why change that now. Beta is a huge selling point for these developers and they are going to capitalize on it as often as possible.

so there going to let all the ppl with pre-orders download it ahead of time and then when OB starts they sent out invites...and make ppl download it during OB....gg

Actually if you're not in beta and didn't preorder, there's probably only a slight chance you will get to be in open beta.

On Monday, you'll be able to download the client via a solution that is, quite frankly, better than what we are currently using. Given the concern/issues with the current Torrent setup, I can't imagine any reasonable person being disappointed with what we are going to do next week. However, in order to get that set up properly, we weren't able to offer it today. I'm sorry for the delay but I know that you'll like what we are doing on Monday better than what we would have been able to do today. And no, it won't cost anything as per my recent post on this subject.

Well, it looks like the open beta isn't open in the traditional sense. If you did not get accepted into CB, or preorder a CE or SE retail copy, you won't get into the open beta. Looks like they're going to have a massive ob with just the preorders, so they don't really need to invite anyone who didn't preorder into the open beta. It's more of a perk for those who are going to buy and subscribe to the game, then a free preview to anyone who wants to download the game. If you wanted to try it before you buy it, you could preorder, play a bit of the OB, then cancel before the shipping date, but I believe they are trying to discourage this so the open beta does not turn into a free "trial" of the game.

lol what are you talking about. What do you meean by normal people. If you didn't preorder it in any fashion I am pretty sure you are not getting in unless you are already in closed beta.

I will be rather blunt. . .open beta is not "open" you either pre-ordered or your not getting in. The only other possible way you MAY get in is if they have a beta hosted with Fileplanet. Of which you will have to be a paying member. You will not receive invites to open beta, you either have a key or your out of luck.

They have tons of people who have paid to preorder already why on earth would they not show abit of good treatment to the very people who have said with there money I have faith in this game and willing to put down some money.You as you say "normal " people will get tons of info once nda is lifting as others have said don't count on a open beta at all it will be pre orders they have more then enough ppl on that alone to test there game.
Exactly, if you want in beta go to your local game store, drop $5 (or whatever it is to pre-order), get your beta key, cancel the pre-order if you don't like it.

I don't remember any large P2P mmo that had an anyone can play open beta since L2. A large selling point for many popular games is the beta. If anyone could get into the open beta, they would lose out on quite a few preorders. Plus, with the populatiry of this game, they are giving preference to their paying customers. Otherwise, they would be giving up bandwith and server space to non-paying customers rather then paying customers. With the amount of preorders I think it's safe to say the way they're performing their OB will be more then sufficiant for a server stress test. Can't get anything for free now-a-days
Grisu the days of open betas were everyone and there grandma can just go online and D/L the client for these types of games are long gone,It all comes at a price or you can just wait for the nda to drop and hear what(sorry guys just using the op's take on this)un-normal people think of the game and then decide if the game is for you.
If someone had came up to me in 1980 when I was on my Atari 2600 and said we will be playing games with thousands of people at the same time.I guess my response would have been,"but I only have 2 joysticks"

Yes. God forbid they choose to let only people who care or have enough interest in the game to pre-order it into beta...to actually, you know, TEST stuff because they WANT the game to be the best it can possibly be so they don't WASTE their money.

Open Beta simply means No NDA Testing (marketing) phase. It doesn't mean free for all cheap ass phase or anyone with a comp and a fileplanet account phase. The words Open Beta have been twisted over the years but it all comes down to one thing No NDA.
If you want the Free Trial then you'll just have to wait for a Free Trial Program sometime next year. I dont know of anyone thats done a free for all OB in a long time now its simply haphazard not to control the numbers of people logging on to a limted amount of servers.
Its not that hard to toss down a few bucks pre order, get the keys use it if you hate it cancel your pre order before the game goes live. Big whoopied frigging do you don't lose a dime. If you were truely excited or wanting to play this game then pre ordering it shouldn't be that big of a deal especially since you can simply click CANCEL at any time.
IF you want to whine then your automatically not the type of people most of us want to have around anyway so boo hoo.

That's a shame. Wait until a month after release if you want, I don't care. But beta is NOT a publicity stunt and it's NOT just a test drive. At least, it shouldn't be. Sadly, that's what it has become with plenty of games...but Mythic is doing it right. They want to focus on testing most of all and not be weighed down by people just wanting a free trial.

AoC let in tons of chuckle heads and they STILL bought the game. That should tell you right there that OB doesn't matter in most decisions. I'm sure in a few months to a year they'll have a free trial program so you can play it for free. Or you could wait for NDA lift reviews.
Its not like you LOOSE money pre ordering if you cancel before the end of OB you don't lose a dime your simply wanting a reason to whine / complain.
Some people may consider it "ridiculous" that Mythic is not doing a "free" beta. I consider it a method of separating the unserious players from the people who are willing to pay for the privilege. It's very simple to understand from an economic standpoint. By restricting the "open" beta to people who pre-order the game, They will drastically increase the number of pre-orders made. Too many people do not want to come late to the party, and will get a pre-order to have an early go at the game. This lets EA/Mythic demonstrate to the retail chain that it's worth putting WAR on prime shelf space in the store, and gives the investers a warm fuzzy feeling that they will see a profit from their investment.
The majority of people they risk loosing from not offering a "free" beta are immature players who will likely ruin the game experience for the other players anyway. In terms of why they are calling it an Open Beta, that's because there will be no NDA when the Open Beta is running.
Hopefully, if money is tight for you, you'll learn patience instead.

A good example about the reason beta's are controlled.
I am following another game due also for release this year and in the last say 3 or 4 weeks there have been alot of new members on the forum asking for beta keys,now they dont want to test the game to help it all they want is a free trial,it doesnt help the game or in most part they wouldnt even test it and report problems,they would just play it and then whine about they game.
the samething is happenning now in open beta's,companies want people that are really interested in the game to be part of it and help stress test the server's and to continue to report problems not a bunch of whinning free loaders that doesnt help anything but themselves.
Like I said earlier either pony up or just sit quietly and wait.

But they don't need to call it that since they have already said like 6 months ago that you have to pre-order to get in... Are you sure you have been following this game for a year? or at all for that matter?
