Well, it looks like the open beta isn't open in the traditional sense. If you did not get accepted into CB, or preorder a CE or SE retail copy, you won't get into the open beta. Looks like they're going to have a massive ob with just the preorders, so they don't really need to invite anyone who didn't preorder into the open beta. It's more of a perk for those who are going to buy and subscribe to the game, then a free preview to anyone who wants to download the game. If you wanted to try it before you buy it, you could preorder, play a bit of the OB, then cancel before the shipping date, but I believe they are trying to discourage this so the open beta does not turn into a free "trial" of the game.
thats ridiculous. mistake on there part imo.
Yes. God forbid they choose to let only people who care or have enough interest in the game to pre-order it into beta..
just cuz i didnt pre-order doesnt mean i have interest. ive been following it for over a year, im just not making the same mistake twice.
aoc...
That's a shame. Wait until a month after release if you want, I don't care. But beta is NOT a publicity stunt and it's NOT just a test drive. At least, it shouldn't be. Sadly, that's what it has become with plenty of games...but Mythic is doing it right. They want to focus on testing most of all and not be weighed down by people just wanting a free trial.
the least they can do is call it a BFPTPO (beta for ppl that pre-ordered only) then i wouldnt be so upset.
But they don't need to call it that since they have already said like 6 months ago that you have to pre-order to get in... Are you sure you have been following this game for a year? or at all for that matter?
yes, i didnt follow it steady i was into AoC aswell. so they shouldnt call it OPEN beta just closed.
I believe this is one of those situations that if you didn't pre-order there will be no "open beta" for you. There hasn't been an actual open beta in forever, why change that now. Beta is a huge selling point for these developers and they are going to capitalize on it as often as possible.
I dedicate this post to all the people who think an open beta is only for stress testing.
Ok just for the record open beta testing is to sell the product, thats why its so restricted and they only let you taste some of the game, a very small bit of it. Then when it comes out your rushing to buy a sub and play what you couldn't try. Its all marketing and for us as players it gives us a chance to try a test classes we've been looking at for awhile and see which one we want to play.
Stress test is probably one of the least things in mind for open beta.
Open beta... not free for all beta... open beta hasnt been used to describe a "free for all" status of the game in years... it means more or less letting in a lot people to stress test the game and so they can tell others how the game generaly feels... name me one open beta that let everyone and their dog in it and the date it happened )

Never happend never will. stress test, sampleing, and "the hook". Thats all open beta is. Its a privlage to participate in beta not a right, either you take the offers they give like the pre-order or you miss out.

No free trial for you.
That's no less ridiculous than what he's saying. At least half those people only care about the headstart and playing the game most likely.
Preorder costs 5 bucks. Five measly bucks. It costs less than your lunch, so go to the nearest store, pick up a preorder copy, pay your 5 bucks and come try it out. If you end up hating it, at least you found out before you paid for the whole game.

No free lunch it cost money to make games what's a hobby to us is a living to the people at Mythic and EA and I'm not talking about the suits. I'm talking about the guys making the game. So $5 bucks is not an unreasonable charge to test the game out in Open beta. Closed is for writing bug reports and giving suggestions to make the game better not a freebie.
How much did your PC cost? How much is your highspeed int cost?
K lets say that I agree with you (and I dont) and I understand that you dont want to lose money...INVEST FIVE WHOLE DOLLARS ZOMG (the cost of 1 gallon of Milk btw) and pre order and try the game out.
Or better yet, DONT.
GO watch a million videos, ask people about it and wait till you know for a fact that its the game you want to play.
What do you have to lose?
You know everytime I try a new beer or grab a bottle of wine, Im taking a risk. I might not like it. Its possible. But its worth the risk. It might just turn out to be the best beer Ive ever had.
For starters Age of Conan. Burnt? pluh eeez 50 bucks and your crying about AoC? How much did your PC cost?

I bought mine at Target for $0.99 so it's not even $5 whole dollars.
For all you guys that think 5 dollars is nothing I'll galdly take your 5 dollars....Then when I get 500K of you to do it I can retire with 2.5 million dollars and I will thank you for it......Seriously open betas used to always be free....WoW was free...LoTRO was free.....Vanguard was free (for me anyway I heard some people actually paid to get a magazine code)...Its only been recently that companies decided to make people pay to play in open betas......It used to be that we were doing them a favor by helping stress test their servers, find late bugs, give final input, etc.......By making people pay to beta you actually do lose customers believe it or not.......While I know alot of you would give 5 dollars to any cause there are some that actually wont and these companies lose out on thsoe people at least in the beginning.......There are several games that if they had not had (free) open betas I would have never played them (WoW and LoTRO to name a couple)......Sorry but not all of us are jsut going to drop 5 bucks for every single MMO that feels their game is too good to have free open betas.....

The reason the companies charge now is because of the demand out there. MMO's did not have such a huge demand as they do now a days. If people are so willing to pay to get in, any company will be ready to exploit that opportunity. Plus there is only so much server space for open beta. They can't just let all the masses in that want to try the game, because you will just have way to much congestion.
Heck I haven't even dropped a dime on WAR just yet, and I've been beta testing it sense May. So some of us have gotten in free.

maybe companies should put interest ahead of money. but those three words r what the world has become.

Indeed, but i do believe warhammer is balancing interest and money fairly well at this point.
