To tell the truth the first thing that comes into my mind is why would anyone want to wear high heals? They are devices made by man so that women will look sexy, but they are painful to wear and bad for the body. If I was a girl I would never wear such a thing.
No they weren't.
OK they started out as boots for riding horses, but the current incarnation of high heels is obviously not for riding horses. It does say that men wore them for fashion too at some point, but now it's just women.
For flat footed women yes they can be uncomfortable, and painful ( I have seen my sisters feet after we went dancing), but for girls like me with very high arches I am more comfortable in heels than I am in most tennis shoes. In order for me to even be able to wear most tennis shoes I have to put in high arc supports that often slip when I run anyhow or I am in sever pain. Now ballet shoes , or heels I am fine. There are only a few brands currently on the market that even make shoes with enough high arc support, and often the ones that claim they do, do not even feel like it when I am wearing them. For me heels are a blessing not a curse. LOL!
Yeah, but how can you run or do anything in high heels? If someone was chasing you for some reason or you had to run somewhere fast you would be in big trouble.
who cares? They are shoes, and pretty shoes at that.
Generally they make no sense to wear though as they hinder your walking and running ability. That is my only qualm against them. If they made you look sexy and allowed you to walk normally then I wouldn't care much. According to Wikki most of the high heals originally were not that high and had some form of reason to be worn. The high heels now are just for show and they hinder your movement. I would apply a High heel movement penalty in game. :P 60% movment speed reduction and a chance to trip on movement.

It's the same as Bikini Armor. It's magic.
Haha thats true. It looks more like strip dancer then warrior.
Come on now. stop pretending you all know bollocks about girls. this is a mmorpg forum for christs sake. if you want to attract girls unplug your computer.
seriously where is the "I am not a girl and do not claim to speak for them" option?
Sorry I'm from the real world, where we don't have any retarded "play games" OR " talk to women" dichotomies.
The first thing that comes to me mind is Barby meets JI Joe. It would scare me a bit to see things like this in an MMO, but I understand that women have to have their thing to and guys will just have to put up with it I guess. I was hoping that with the womens gainning more power in in the world they would leave dress up behind them and embrace the more combat oriented male approach to games instead using female characters. IT's OK to add dress up and dancing to a game, but it seems to sterotypical of what a submissive girl would do.
I think you're being stereotypical by assuming that combat is the only thing male players enjoy. I hate combat in most mmos. It's just so fake. The winner is decided by simple math, there's no real risk, and it becomes very monotonous after awhile.
On the other hand, I have no interest in fashion IRL. I did however enjoy playing an Image Designer in SWG. I like playing merchant type characters, and the only other alternative was become and crafter and make things by *click* *click* *click* ten thousand times. At least avatar customization gave me a chance to practice some creativity, and I apparently had a decent eye for aesthetics. I might have chosen something different if the crafting was less of a grind, but it wasn't and I didn't. Admittedly it wasn't bad compared to most games, but it was still to repetitive for me.
I hate grinding, so whenever I start looking at a new game, I always start by looking for tradeskill or service roles. These bring me into contact with other players, so it's not always so predictable.

They still aren't some evil male invention created just to make women look sexier. Women will wear high heels as long as other women wear high heels. Though I realize some are smart enough to stop competing over dumb men who don't care.

Thats ture. Sorry for the mistake there. It just seemed to me that high heels served no purpose and they really don't in todays society except for looks so I assumed it was always that way. I guess I learned my lesson that I should not assume things and perhaps things actually had a purpose at some point in history. It seems a mistake I make a lot.

I am glad that there's a guy willing to say combat is not the most impressive part of a game. I too, enjoy tradeskills. I look forward to the next game with a crafting system that gives you a lot of options like SWG did. I hate to keep going back to that game in my posts, but honestly I am at a loss for a better example of crafting, character development, and freedom.
Ok if you read my post I never said that all guys like combat or that it's right or wrong like combat or not. All I said was it's sterotypical of women to do things like play dress up or pretend to be a dancer/singer. This is what the "majority" of women do in real life. I also believe that the "majority" of men do tend more twords combat in games. All I was saying is I wish the majority of women were not like that. Maybe it would be better if the majority of men were not so combat/sport focused. I don't know. I'm trying to promote women's equality and people practically accuse me of sexism. :P

I believe your exact words were, "I was hoping that with the womens gainning more power in in the world they would leave dress up behind them and embrace the more combat oriented male approach to games instead using female characters. "
You are technically correct, you did not say those things. You may be right about what men and women enjoy statistically. However, even if it's true more men enjoy combat that does not mean that combat is the "male approach" or that anything else is the "female approach". Even if I am in the minority of males, I do not consider myself less masculine or anything for doing what I enjoy.
I don't think you're trying to sound prejudicial, but it's kind of unavoidable when you're part of the majority telling the minority what to do. If I, as a sort-of white person started saying, "Those black people should stop commiting crimes and doing drugs and listening to rap and instead go to school and get jobs.", don't you think I'd come across as a little racist?

True though I don't think encouraging women to be different from the majority and do things with their freedom other then what society tells them to do is doing what you are saying. Woman have fought for that freedom in the past because they wanted to do the same things that men are able to do. All I'm saying is I would like to see them embrace that more.
As for men/African Americans, and other subjects I never really meant to bring them into this. If men choose to dress up their characters or focus on things outside of combat thats fine with me. I never meant to imply that it was wrong to do so. I also never meant to imply that it's wrong for women to do so, but I would like to see them do more with the freedom they have as it was not always so.
I have no idea what it is like to be dark skinned, let alone black, so I really wouldn't have a clue about how much racism really goes on in my country or community. That said, I think that stereotypes are so frowned upon that we forget there's a reason they exist, whether they are accurate or not.
As a woman, I can speak about myself. I like clothes. I like pretty things, and if I had any talent to dance, I would love to do so. Do I fit a stereotype? Maybe.
There are always exceptions to the rules. I for one would like to have our society stop being so opposed to stereotypes that we can't have fun with them. We are offended too easily. We are oversensitive. I know what it feels like to be discriminated against because of sex, as I have visited a third world country where the society was VERY sexist, and believe me, American woman have very little to complain about in comparison. So go ahead... call me a barbie doll dressup freak. It might just be true.
This turned into a pretty long thread that being said my opinion is still on what the op said because I wanted to avoid the sexist remarks that I'm fairly certain started here (haha) but I agree with the few remaarks I've seen about the average womans choices as far as sci fi/fantasy my wife doesn't play the kinds of video games I play at all but I have a much easier time getting her to see a sci fi flick than like star wars than a medieval one like Lord of the Rings.
I've always wondered why they make so many medieval themed mmos I for one think it is a strong factor working against them I love rpgs but as far as mmos go I've had a very difficult time trying new ones when I know I'm just getting someone elses idea of what an orc looks like or does and all the other stuff.
but yeah, to call this game Fantastic is like calling Twilight the Godfather of vampire movies....
I kind of regreted using such strong language, but I figured it was too late to take back. I realize it may not have been appropriate for this particular forum, and I hope this doesn't turn into a flame war.
Nevertheless, I think the analogy stands. You were saying that more women should act outside of their stereotypical roles, I was pretending to say that more African Americans should act outside their stereotypical roles. Again, I know you didn't mean anything offensive, I was just trying to explain how your comments could possibly be interpreted. It's not a big deal, and I'm not trying to make it one. Most people would probably not even read it that way.

Sorry I didn't read anything other then the title of the thread but I found the title funny and decided to respond. lastly they are attracted to this (if you get what I mean):
Would girls be attracted to Sci-fi style of gaming? We know that the sci-fi movie industry is huge compared to the adventure, which is why many developers now are wondering if that could work in mmo's as well. But the question is, with 45% women player MMO's would they like a Sci-fi mmo?
Girls are attracted to guys who play MMORPG's 24 hours a day. Didnt you know?
They all want rugged men with 5 o'clock shadows who reek of manliness, swing a mean ax and wear red flannel shirts.
No required quests! And if I decide I want to be an assassin-cartographer-dancer-pastry chef who lives only to stalk and kill interior decorators, then that's who I want to be, even if it takes me four years to max all the skills and everyone else thinks I'm freaking nuts. -Madimorga-

Females are attracted to lots of these:
They are also attracted to this:
And lastly they are attracted to this (if you get what I mean):
So now you know what women are attracted to.
Currently playing:
LOTRO & WoW (not much WoW though because Mines of Moria rocks!!!!)
Looking Foward too:
Bioware games (Dragon Age & Star Wars The Old Republic)
Cowboys with Blood Elf mounts?
Girls are attracted to guys who play MMORPG's 24 hours a day. Didnt you know?
They all want rugged men with 5 o'clock shadows who reek of manliness, swing a mean ax and wear red flannel shirts.
No required quests! And if I decide I want to be an assassin-cartographer-dancer-pastry chef who lives only to stalk and kill interior decorators, then that's who I want to be, even if it takes me four years to max all the skills and everyone else thinks I'm freaking nuts. -Madimorga-
