Originally posted by rentantilus Mark my words, it's just going to be "grinding in space." You could be fighting whomp rats outside of Mos Eisley, but now you're just going to be fighting hut fighters in the space above Tatooine. You just know how it's going to turn out: You're going to start in some crappy "newbie" ship, then the only thing there's going to be to do in space is fly around looking for spawns of tie fighters. That's right, tie fighters are probably just going to pop out of asteroids by the half dozen. You'll shoot them and earn some arbitrary experience points in doing so. Will there be giant battles in space between dozens of ships? Are there any giant battles on the ground in their battlefields? Nope. SWG hasn't seen any of those since its days on the E3 demo circuit. Even if there are battles in space, it's just going to come down to who has grinded more and has the better ship. Sure, they SAY there are going to be some twitch skills involved, but we all already know how that's going to turn out. You could put the most skilled combat flight simluator pilot who ever lived in the cockpit of the newbie ship and pit him against some slobering retard fan boy who has been grinding for a few months and now pilots the game's supership*, and we already know that the slobering retard is going to win. "Why would they reward slobering retarded fan boys who grind for months instead of players who are actually talented?" It's all about the money, folks. * The "supership" is just the spaceship version of the "superitem." Every MMORPG to date has crippled itself by instating a linear progression of equipment, by which there's always a single item in each category (armor, weapon, vehicle, etc) that is the undisputed best. It's easy to figure out what it is, too; walk through a town in a high-level area of an MMORPG and see how EVERY SINGLE character has the same sword, the same suit of armor, blah blah blah.
__________ When you see a new MMORPG, honestly think to yourself: "Is this game designed to EARN my $15 per month subscription with content, originality, and long-term value, or is it just designed to SCAM me out of $50 when I buy the box at the store with flashy advertising, biased reviews, and empty promises?"
Sad but true and never a truer word said. However, are there any MMORPGs that don't fall under this unfortunate failing?
Can't say I've found one. I was a HUGE EQ player, tried AO, Neocron, DAOC but always went back to EQ. POssibly because I knew it the best though.
However, having upgraded the PC I'm looking of rsomething different... Anyone got any thoughts? I tend to go for games that I can solo in as I am on a irregular times and for varying lengths of time.
I was thinking of Planetside, Eve Online, City of Heroes...? A few that I am definitely giving a go are WoW, D&D, Warhammer Online (cancelled?) and EQ2.
Oh and one last thing... Rentantilus, what do you play?
Played EQ, Neocron, AO, DAoC, Ragnarok, Rubies and still haven't found that buzz I need! Maybe I'll plug myself to the mainzzzzZZZZZ!!!
Originally posted by remyburke Too little, too late... i played SWG the week it came out. needless to say the 70% of what the game has now was not in it when i played. i managed to cap pistol and Creature handler and spent the leftover in medic within a month just soloing...it was a joke.
That is because SWG is not about leveling. It is about fighting the civil war. Mastering skills with out haveing to spend ungodly amounts of time doing it is one of the things i like most about SWG. If i wanted a treadmill game i would go back to EQ.
I think it is a good idea but I think it will get old after a month or so,but I don't know. I like how you can get a real big ship and take poeple around and put furniture in it. also it would be cool to have battles and destoy other goobers.
SWG always had content.. the thing about is that it just wasn't rewarding.. or even challenging. At the start all you had to do was master the right professions then you could solo everything in the entire game.. even the "legendary" Gorax. The rewards for killing the highest mobs in the game were non existant. They changed that when I stopped playing, so that you then needed 2 or 3 people to kill everything, still wasn't a challenge. I haven't played in awhile, so I'm interested in how the Corellian Corvette, Genosian Lab etc. are challengwise, I've heard about new rewards such as Legendary and Exceptional weapons, and that is certainly a step in the right direction.
JTL looks terrific, I really want to try it out, the release of JTL, and combat balance should be great. Read about these new force sensitive skills, and they sound like a terrific idea. There certainly needs to be something after just mastering professions to keep chasing. Finally the game is turning into an RPG rather than just fancy Star Wars graphics.
with artifical lag and twiched based game doesn't fit my play style
i do hope they do a good job on it ...........i hope once it gets out 6 months of bugs get fixed they can get to the orginal game with re vamp of combat skills
