Most will want both and the one with the most options and better gameplay will get the massive longterm subs.
Isn't that the reality we've learned from the past 3 years?
If it were for the users of MMORPG.COM other laws would apply, but apparently these forums don't count.
Not to bring the whole subject on "wow had 4 years of development " but when i started playing WoW and for the first 6months(?! sorry cant recall when they added BWL) , there was only really MC, one single raiding instance in the whole game, on top of that on my server (which was pretty full at the time lets face it ALL the servers were pretty full) only my guild and another alliance guild were raiding it, this is not to excuse WAR giving the excuse that WoW had 4 years of Dev, but to say that there will be alot of time for WAR to implement PVE challenges the same way WoW did.
I also have the feeling the people talking about PVE are the late comers to WoW who did not experience the beginning of raiding and probably joined in the late crowd who got to 70 and just went to Karazhan on a PUG, let me remind you it wasnt always like that and I really doubt any game can be release on the current state of WoW(raiding wise) which allows for players to experience and run through content really easily, not because of the actual implementation of mechanics but because of the amount of feedback they had over the years that cannot be replicated easily.

WAR is really not aimed at the PvE crowed, yes its there but its not the focus as it is in WoW.
The Games are real diffrent creatures, its kind of like trying to compare a Cat and a Dog, yes both have four legs and Fur but thats kind of where it stops.
Play WoW for PvE and then hit WAR for your PvP fix, question is not why to leave WoW its why not just play both ?

Allow me to disagree... I for one do not like to play 2 MMOs at the same time, im not the kind of player who will split his gameplay time between WoW and WAR if i like an MMO i will play it and forget about the rest until i get bored or something else makes me more interested. I do not think Mythic will just disregard PVE totally, sure the game main focus is on PVP but that doesnt mean you cant have quality PVE, WoW is mainly a PVE oriented game but i wouldnt consider PVP inferior, BGs, Arenas are very well designed and implemented and along the way i think WAR will be the other way around, they will realize there is room for good PVE and continue developing it as well, would be foolish (and this is company wise AKA profits) not to.
Its actually fairly straight forward. World of Warcraf focused all its pre-release development on PvE Content. PvP content wasn't added till after release. Every new patch improved old quests and added new ones. Now WAR has done some things to make PvE more interesting and casual friendly but the bulk of the direction is RvR Intended. It will be rare to have players standing in the capitol spamming for runs on the higher end dungeons.
Um... WAR has raids guys. You just didn't get to see them in preview weekend and you won't see them in open beta. They're Tier 4 content. They aren't called "raids" though, they're warband dungeons.

From all accounts, dungeons will be 6 man encoutners only.
Warbands are indeed what WAR calls raid groups, but they are frequently used in RvR and PQs.
Also, the final boss encounters for capturing a city will be PvE raid encounters.
I have never heard anything, anywhere, from websites to beta testers (elder server beta testers, I was in closed beta for a short period), that there will be dungeons with raids.
Dungeons with raids nope, are they working on dungeons i m sure they are and are waiting to see the consensus on what the majority of playerbase says. f the system they have is to most liking then this is what you ll get. I do know however that they mentioned a Darkness Falls type rvr dungeon based on control etc (god i hope so) and it s possible they ll be adding one. If you played DAOC you ll know why i said (god i hope so).

I do believe Mythic said 12 would be the TOP required with most being 6. The king would be the ONLY 24 man encounter. I could be mistaken but I am almost positive I remember reading about that somewhere.
Don't forget the WoW funnel.. I'd imagine a WAR funnel would be there was well.
For refference, the WoW funnel is staying that ever class is so unique and different quest wise.....
But they all funnel to the same areas by level 20 (or lower) and funnel to even more levels by 30. With everyone ending up in the same dungeons by 60-70.

You have three warfronts to choose from. There are three extremely large zones (tiers)to go to every 10 levels. In addition there are different scenarios (BGs) for each tier in each warfront.
From my time in the CE closed beta and the preview weekend, I found that there is way more to do in Tier 1 at least, than you could do with one character. The replay value in each individual tier looks to be pretty good.
The funnel may exists, but it's a pretty damn wide funnel.
You have to ask yourself. Why would Mythic put all this effort and focus on creating enjoyable RVR/PVP and then go screw it up by adding a crap load of Raid dungeons, unless they were RVR related.
They want people to RVR, that is the design of the game from the ground up. Adding PVE Raids would take away from that.
As much as I love raiding in WOW, I'm also sick of it at the same time. WAR offers something new. Unless they integrate RVR and WOW type raid encounters, I don't see it happening.

I've been a beta-tester and I like WAR's PvE more than WoW and other MMORPGs I've played like Guild Wars, CoH/V etc. And yes, I hate raiding and multi-hour dungeons full of trash mobs.
There are more PvE quests than you can comfortably do in each zone (even if you don't gain any levels with PvP). Many are the typical kind of quests where you go someplace and kill X number of mobs but even these have well written text and amusing storylines that go along with them.
Other quests have you doing different things like shooting siege weapons at mobs and blowing them up. Or rescuing peasants from burning buildings. These add more variety to the quests than I have seen in other games.
Another reason I like the PvE is that you're not wasting time trying to figure out where to go. The map shows you a general area of where you need to go. You still need to so some exploring when you get there, but you won't waste your time running to the wrong side of the zone just because you missed one sentence in the quest dialog.
There are also the 'Xmas Quests' that you simply stumble along and do something for a quick reward. These have always brought a smile to me when I found them.
I haven't even mentioned Public Quests. It's already been said, WAR is not for hardcore raiding guilds that like to spend hours doing the same dungeon over and over. People shouldn't expect WAR to try to cater to every type of player out there, though in my opinion WAR caters mostly to players who want to have fun with a MMORPG not a second job.
to put things in perspective...could you see yourself doing PvE and quest as the sole way to lvl in WAR? Could you do this on say 3-4 alts in WAR as well? WoW offered enough quests and party dungeons/instances, wide open spaces with lots of mob spawns, loot drops were more common, more players to group with for PvE etc... WAR may have decent PvE but its overshadowed by RvR which is understandable considering it is an rvr based game. There is nothing really revolutionary about the PvE in WoW, but because the game is based around that system being in a group doing PvE content was very common and didn't make the grind so boring. Playing WAR, I don't see the point of PvE since everything i need and want can be attained thru RvR. has anyone actually grinded a few lvls in PvE (level 12+)? except for when i was in a PQ it was very bland and boring cause either playerswere all doing PQs or they were doing rvr/scenarios. PQs are fine but when you have a million players doing the same one leveling is slow. Community will make a good game great. Its the same community that can make even the most boring things alot more fun. I just don't see the WAR community being to PvE oriented when there are so much more fun things to do like RvR.
...I'm a huge fan of WAR and have been in favor of playing the game as long or longer then alot of players here. I don't understand why ppl are getting bent out of shape over gamers saying wow pve is better then war pve. WAR is developed around RvR with PvE beinga secondary focus while WoW is based around PvE and PvR being just fluff to make some pvpers happy. I say fluff cause blizzard has no clue what it takes to make pvp a success. they failed on many attempts and this new xpac will probably be another failed attempt.
Hey synn, I'm not slamming you here, but I want to share my experience and hopefully put a fundamental oversight to rest (though I'm sure this won't). I think the majority shares your opinion, but has missed something amazing in the process.
YES! I COULD see myself leveling solely through pve in this game with multiple alts. ABSOLUTELY I can! I took a pair of characters on each side up into their mid-20s doing 90% pve, and I can honestly say I felt like I was overlooking tons of available pve content. There was enough to do, and there were more than enough quests along the way in each area to keep my attention as I was leveling. For the Order, I travelled briefly to one dwarf warcamp and one elf warcamp to turn in a quest at each. I also flew to Altdorf and did a number of quests there. But the rest of my time was spent in the lands of the Empire doing solo quests or PQs. I really felt as though I was overlooking the dwarf and elf areas in the process and later rerolled characters from each race to take through their paces. I essentially did the same thing on the destruction side, leveling a Chaos Warrior first and then back-tracking to try the other races.
The focus of this game is undeniably on pvp and rvr, though not for lack of development on the pve side. I have to admit, WAR had not demonstrated the depth of other games, but there really is a TON of pve content - a fact that I believe has been by-and-large overlooked.
The bottom line though is this - I truly believe this is the game for everyone. The only gameplay mechanic I haven't seen covered is "end-game" raid dungeons. However, I also think the city sieges are the answer to this. I think once a few raiding guilds sink their teeth into this, they won't know how to let go. Imagine a dungeon that is different everytime you visit it - that's the potential with city sieges. $.02
Sure I could level up several times doing only pve content, but why? Mix it up! Do some quests, do some public quests, do some open-rvr, do some scenario rvr. That's really what WAR has going for it. The variety of different stuff that you can do.
I didn't find the pve quests that you can do to level up any more boring than quests in any other MMO. I will admit that WOW would have more to do as far as endgame pve raiding, but that's to be expected since the game has been out for quite a while.
And to the OP I'm sure everyone else has said it, but PVE in WOW doesn't really start until you hit 70.
lets see WoW appeals to PvE players becuase of raids/quests (why, i will never know)
WAR has stated before that it is all about the PvP. i dont know what your thinking but Mythic slapped on PvE to a PvP game... it was never meant to be more than average at best.
MMO wish list:

WoW has the best PvE I have played and I'd like to think I've played every 3D MMO on the market. Don't get me wrong I'm bored of the end-game but 1-70 on WoW is the best mmo I have ever played. Saying WAR has better PvE than WoW is no small claim and I hope its true because WAR will be absolutely amazing if so.

first: war pve isnt bad, its acutally well done, did find it too easy for my taste, either you fight normal mobs that stand no chance of killing you unless you pull way to many of you fight champs and heroes that require tanks and heals. the content is all about small groups too, no not doing it for a lack of raid guilds and the group stuff starts at like level 2 if you wanna do it.
second: war doesnt even need the pve, you can level entirely from pvp, you get awesome pvp rank gear, you get all the money you need to train and buy your pvp gear from pvp quests. too put it bluntly how wow started as a pve game and later tacked on pve, well war is a rvr pvp game and they tacked on the pve so yould have something to do if the other side wasnt around to fight like during off peak hours or something
third: wows end game pve is the lamest thing since the last 3 expasions of eq1 raiding, either people just exploited the bugs to beat them or they did their damdest to zerg till the mobs died instead of finding the strategy to beat them. in the rvr of war youre up against potentially intelligent opponents (not saying you wont find plenty of dummies playing against you it is the internets after all) that wont use the same tactics alot or fall for exploits, and zerging aint gonna cut it because a coordinated warband will cut a zerg to pieces every time.
I hope by PVE people arent thinking about 6 man instances and quests cause thats just not what im after, PVE for leveling every game will have im talking about ofc on high end raiding/warband instances something it will b emore or less of a challenge once in a while when you feel like it.

WAR will definately require PvE raids. You think the Lords of Change can be taken down wtih a 6 man PUG? lol...

Quote:
The King encounter is one of the biggest exceptions to the rule of 6 men [for instances in WAR],
it's a 24 man instance.

its implied that there are other exceptions - otherwise he would have said only exception

do you mean raid 'instances' ?
WAR will definately require PvE raids. You think the Lords of Change can be taken down wtih a 6 man PUG? lol...
