Yes Yes and yes!  I am afraid that those days of respectful PVP are gone forever..............The are no longer Servers/Games that police themselves for PVP anymore like in the good old days of UO.

Its worse to actually think about doing something then actually doing it!!!

They have experience.  Maybe some of you have forgotten Mourning, Dark and Light, Shadowbane, WWIIOL, and Roma Victor - to name a few.  We have seen games from indie devs, we have heard all of the promises before, and we have played the games.

Feature lists are often not worth the virtual paper they are printed on.  Why isnt Roma Victor flooded with players that are waiting for DF?  The RV feature list is smoking hot and very similar to DF.  I will tell you why - the implementation isnt very good.

So, until DF can show the world that their GAME is as good as the feature list, many remain skeptical.  All of the milestones and internal deadlines that have been missed over the course of YEARS do not help.  And the reluctance to show the game to any press - for a game that has a PR strategy of letting the game speak for itself - blows my mind.  If they speak the truth about the current state of their game, it should be out there doing the PR for them right now.  Instead, we are waiting for a damn video that was announced 3 months ago.

And no one believes me when I tell them stuff like that about UO.   There were plenty of occassions were I would be out in the wild.  Not paying attention, and someone would come up, and just killed my PC.  Funny thing is they would rez, me and then go on about their business.

PvP has been on it's last leg since UO.  PvP has always appealed to the lowest common donominator since then.   I personally have nothing against alot of the guilds and pvp'ers I've met since then.  I just find myself wondering where all the maturity went.  Anyone that played Shadowbane with any of the biggers guilds like LoD, ST, LSoD, etc.  Would be asking yourself the same question.

    In War - Victory.
    In Peace - Vigilance.
    In Death - Sacrifice.

Here it is folks. Basically 99% of the DF haters are the same..

There are use to the Uber Sword Of Serverlag.. That takes them and 39 other dudes 6 monthes of 14 hour raids daily, to aquire.

They cannot grasp anything else.. Its so so simple.. They havent played anything else. lol.

They dont get that games can be non gear centric.. What do you do then? They wonder.

I cant save them all, sad to say. But its a good reason for many to grab onto the liferaft that is Darkfall.

Yep, its hard to begin to explain what a "sandbox" MMO is when people only have class/level based MMOs to compare to. They usually tend to get stuck in either "non item based" or "non quest based", and it can be really frustrating to have to explain it all.

So please, try NOT to think in "WoW-terms" when talking about Darkfall (or any other sandbox MMO). Otherwise the the whole point is lost and nothing make sense....and in best case, people will only think you dont know anything about MMOs.

I have to strongly disagree. The market at the time was flooded with young gamers. Myself included.

This created a harsh community consisting of the dawn of cliche immaturity and horriblly lame interactions.

Today the market is more diverse and a community in a looting enviroment hasnt been attempted on that scale again.

Maybe its because nobody wants to play a cheesey hashing of 300.. in short skirts.

Seriously though, you ramble on and on about previous games with indie devs.. Majority of them have had similarly rocky starts getting funding.. Their development has been delayed and eventually they start leaking too much information and try and drum up business.

Actually, a 300 theme would no doubt sell.  However, Roma Victor is a Roman themed historical game.  Yeah, I am sure that no one here wants to play a skill based game with FPS aiming and looting.  Whatever.

Leaking too much information was the problem?

Ah, so a tight lid = good game.   Right.
You tell me to act like a "grown ass man" or cry more...clearly the irony is lost on you.  But it did entertain me, thanks!

    Ockham's Razor says...

    Truth.

Can't say as I blame 'em. Who wouldn't want to freeload on someone's dime in a nice Mediterranean locale, in return for having to cough out a sh*tty-looking scripted video or "beta" site logo every couple of months.

It explains why there isn't going to be a video this month as "promised' and why there won't be a release by the end of this year as "promised."

    (in before the vaportrolls)

Very true.  You got to understand a lot of the kids that play MMOs, play on their parents dime.  And those are the same kids who would quit a game were they got ganked and looted, as was seen in UO.  UO was great because all your pride was in your character and your home, both of which could not be looted away from you.  You died you lost everything, but if you were a GM with a swords, well you can get a new sword and be bad ass with that one.  It was a cutting edge philosophy that I would of thought would rule the MMORPG market for the rest of time, but I was sadly mistaken.  Seems like the WoW generation and theme has taken over and all MMOs are just like one another now.

I just want a game where your pride comes with your characters hard earned, unique skills and house, not your loot you just got from the 8 hour raid boss.

There are people who have waited seven years for DF, beginning to think each year will be different.  Starting to think mabye, just mabye, this might be the year for Darkfall.
If Darkfall hasn't been in development so long, this wouldn't be a problem.
If DF could prove any of its claims, this wouldn't be a problem.
If Tasos didn't lie and lead people to think each year will be the year, this wouldn't be a problem.
If they gave their fans some reasurance, this wouldn't be a problem.
If they cared about their fanbase, this wouldn't be a problem.

Ive waited for 7 years for Darkfall, and I am still patient.

Looks like people like you are the only ones with the problem!!! Cry more!

If Darkfall did release in 2005 and the game was underdeveloped like Vanguard or Age of Conan, people here would /cry /bitch and /moan about it and complain how Aventurine didnt take enough time to  develop the damn game.

And now when a company FINALLY TAKES IT TIME TO FINISH A GAME they /cry and /troll.

Also I have a message for ORLYBIRD. Do not send me any more PMs here about how much you want me to stop posting nice things about Darkfall.

Darkfall is developed by a small independent crew. They dont have huge financial backing. Development is paid mostly out of their own pockets. They cant afford to fail. Releasing a unfinished game ridden with bugs and other problems will make sure they are finished in the MMO industry. This is their one and only chance. If it fails then years of their lives has been thrown away.

If they take their time and release a good product, polished and bugfree. They will have hit the jackpot and will have secured their future in the industry.

Most MMO's now rely upon grinding for gear as the proverbial carrot in front of the donkey. We the gamers are the donkey. When someone grinds for weeks or months to acquire an item or an item set they are going to be royally pissed when they lose that item, especially if it is in a manner they deem cowardly or unfair. So it is simple [gear grinding] + [full loot PvP] = [Griefing]
I say we do away with gear grinding and go at it, personally. I don't want to spend 8 hours or more in one stupid instance trying to get [Jehova's Necklace of Witnessing +++++Everything] anyway. I play a game for fun, not a false sense of accomplishment.

I suggest partial looting or maybe allow each player to bind one item to their character that cannot be looted. If you want to have godly gear... but personally I think having godly gear or two hundred levels for a character is the wrong way to go anyway. Throw in some character aging and item degradation for me also!

Besides.. Congress is thinking about taxing virtual economies anyway and I for one, don't want to give them more ammunition.

I agree completely.  What DF is on paper cannot be compared to WoW at all.  And anyone who tries in not in the same ballpark.

I am confused. Are you guys agreeing with my post or disagreeing? Because I am basically on your side in this. As for using WoW for comparison... I was explaining why so many people are against full loot in pretty much any modern MMO. As for "don't know anything about MMO's", I have been around since Everquest and haven't touched WoW in five months. I am playing EVE atm and looking forward to the RvR of Warhammer next. And if Darkfall delivers on it's promises I will no doubt play that as well.  The point of my post is that Gear-grind and full-loot results in angry players. If Darkfall ends up relying heavily upon gear grind (and most people on the forums will assume it will because so many games do now) then it is going to alienate a lot of players very quickly. I haven't seen enough information on Darkfall to know if it is going to avoid that pitfall or not, and until the game actually hits Beta and people can see for themselves how that mechanic works then we don't know.  Personally I would rather have fun gameplay, sandbox, and full-loot PvP than gear grind. That was the point of my post. Did I misunderstand you guys or just not make my point very well?
