There you go again not actually responding to a question or a point. Just a little dig and some misdirection. New WoW graphics are amazing compared to what?
You're the one going for entrapment here, no need to compare it to other games because it's style stands on its own. Why, because it is about the art style, AoC, Tabula Rasa, LOTRO have almost no style, they have representation of "reality" to a certain degree and you can say how poor either of those games look judging how far from realistic it looks.
That is why you don't really compare WoW graphics with other because no one is gonna look at WoW and go, wow that really looks realistic, it was never it's intention.
If you really want to discuss, you would, you wouldn't look for a comparison we all know you can tear down.
Entrapment??? Just a direct question which most fans seem incapable of answering directly.
The only response I seem to be hearing is one that says that the art style, or character of the art is what makes the images so amazing.
If that's the case...
Well, that makes all WoW images "amazing".
Yep. The day the game came out of the box to this very moment. The character of the art has remained the same. And now it gets a minor face-lift with shadows.
Calling the images "amazing" in that sense is kind of an empty statement. You might as well say "Yep, that looks like the WoW style I've come to know and love."
But perhaps that would be too blatantly fanlke to do so.
I totally love those exaggerated models and child like aesthetics, it always reminds me of how much more fun you can have when you stop taking yourself too seriously. They are really gorgeous in their simplicity, thanks for posting. I'm so buying this the first day!
Spamalot, you are comparing WoWs work-on-any-system graphics to the graphics of DirectX 10 games. LoTRO looks amazing and beautiful... if running in Direct X 10. WoW looks beautiful in Direct X like 8. And also, we are not concerned with how nice something works. But you wont listen because you keep assuring us we are not answering your question when we have 5 or 6 times. We are saying they look awesome becuz we understand the WoW art direction, which is simplicity. We ARENT comparing it, becuz any comparison is unfair, becuz WoW isnt TRYING at all to match those games. It isnt the established look that comes all the way from the Warcraft series. New MMOs are just trying to beat WoW by making their games look more visually amazing and WoW clearly doesnt want to. Blizzard could easily amp up the graphics if they wanted to.
And all of this is irrelevant when you realize that WoW is better than ever other MMO and anyone who says otherwise is like I use to be three months ago, hating it simply for its popularity. If you disagree with that, you are lying.
There you go again not actually responding to a question or a point. Just a little dig and some misdirection. New WoW graphics are amazing compared to what?

I think gamers overall, seem to have trouble understanding that gaming graphics ARE ARTWORK. They have different styles, and because of that, they appeal to different people.
There are a lot of people who abhor French Impressionism, ala VanGogh (really post impressionism), Monet, Degas, etc. Now....anyone who would say that "Monet sucks," likely has absolutely no cultural sophistication or knowledge about art, for one, then on the other hand.....maybe they just PREFER (being we're referring to ART here), say oh......pop art, such as Andy Warhol, or Salvadore Dali. ALL FINE ARTISTS, all with an amazing command of light and color and space, yet not everyone likes all of those, or maybe ANY of those artists' works.
Just because YOU don't like a particular form of art, certainly does not make it less beautiful or creative. It only means it isn't your particular taste. Younger people, especially, seem to have a hard time saying, "that's not to my liking" rather than "DUDE, zomg that sux." Probably just a lack of maturity.
World of Warcraft, by any artist's standards, is beautifully breathtaking. It is a STYLE that you may not prefer. So? I, personally, find the artwork of more "realistically" styled games, quite ugly. But that doesn't make them any less art. It just makes them not MY PERSONAL preference. Anime games....I can't even PLAY those, as it sickens me to have to look at the big-eyes, anime-style characters and over-exaggerated environments and flat colors, that have less subtlety than what I PERSONALLY like. Does that mean that Final Fantasy's graphics "suck?" Uhm....no...LOL.
Just something to think about when you're going on and on about "the graphics suck." Not everyone has the same taste in art, food, games, or pretty much ANYTHING else. And comparing apples to oranges, just isn't common sense....in any area of discussion.

...and yet WOW plays much better than LOTRO, which is all that matters in the long run. Honestly, often games look really nice in a still, but when you see them moving, not so great. Besides, compare apples to apples. Take the same PC and stick both games on it, then actually find settings so both are at playable frame rates and WOW looks better as a whole, than LOTR IMO. I don't play slide shows. I play moving games. Crysis looks amazing on my system as well, but I wouldn't compare it to WOW.
Age of Conan is a perfect example. The characters are so lifeless and dead looking, every fancy graphic effect doesn't matter. The auto-facing shrubery also looks horrible. Uncanny valley at its finest.
Ugh sorry. Some would call it "art style" but sadly those screens just don't appeal to me, why? because it's MORE OF THE SAME JUNK. My god, nothing changes with this game and the "artists" need to be removed and get some fresh talent in. Expansions are meant to be a change, not more of the same. This engine gets old so fast it sickens me. Not to mention most of the raid content will still be designed for the unemployed, so why even continue to pay thees guys when they design content for those who have no life? it's beyond me. I used to love this game, heck I was the biggest Blizztard fan for ages. Considering how long it took for their expansions they should've been epic, it's so slow and all the same. Just more retarded reps. People who have a life or jobs/careers already grind enough as it is. That's why people like Jeff Kaplan ( lead designer) are designing crap like constant rep grinds, that's why you don't hire previously unemployed hardcore raiders as a game designer for your project. I think game designers should have to work for 10-12 hrs, then come home and try to progress in their "casually claimed" game. By progression I don't mean just geting to 70, I mean getting equipped once you get there.
I have to agree, graphics in WoW was never a big issue for me. I prefer gameplay over graphics and while WoW preformed really well the game concept was grind, grind, and more grind. Endgame for awhile now consists of grinding gear in PvE (repating instances/raids) or in PvP (repating battlegrounds/arenas).
when a seizable number of population finally gear themselves up, the develoeprs invent extra tier and reward the faithful with more grind.
Arguably all MMOs have grind to some extent but in my opinion WoW grind goes above and beyond call of duty. One can opt out of endgame gear grind and be bored, or be bored with the gear grind. Hardyl options for me and that is why I left after over two years.
finally someone managed to sum up perfectly what Ive been trying to say myself. Im kinda bad with words but Coffee I have to thank you for summing it up perfectly. Actually, i have to agree with a lot of you, especially the graphics dont matter and WoW runs better than LOTRO people.

I don't recall saying that the graphics suck. My post said:
The skies and the lighting effects look nice, I suppose, but nothing better than what it's competitors have to offer. I've never been a fan of the exaggerated proportions and child-like cartoonishness that WoW uses, so I wouldn't say that they look "sweet" to me at all, just more of the same. If you want to look at some impressive graphics, try AoC.
For example, the distance shot of the first "castle" reminds me much more of something made with childrens' building blocks than a stunning location like Angkor Wat.
And then I proceeded to request an explanation as to why the fans out there thought these childishly exaggerated graphics were "amazing". After that people started talking about art style rather than graphics. And as I first acknowledged, my preference is not for the WoW style look.
WoW graphics, by any artists standards are breathtaking? No. They aren't. And you know there is no way you can support that statement. They are just what YOU prefer. To offer you a logical corrolary of your own statement:
Just because YOU DO like a particular form of art, certainly does not make it MORE beautiful or creative. It only means it is your particular taste.
Some people like McDonalds cheeseburgers.
Actually, LOTS of people like McDonalds cheeseburgers.
Liking the McDonalds cheeseburgers doesn't make them the best cheeseburgers in the world, nor does it make them the worst. It just means you have a lot of friends who like them too.
Likewise you will find that Thomas Kincade, "painter of light" is a HUGELY popular artist. It doesn't mean his artwork is great, nor does it make it bad. Personally, I'm not a big fan of his style either.
It is as I have already said:

Yup, you perfectly re-stated what I already said. And it has nothing to do with "cheering for your team and holding pom poms." I can appreciate the art work in most games. I, myself, don't judge a game entirely on JUST the graphics, however......whereas.....a lot of people do.
Incidentally, artwork is generally "judged," by artists, by it's use of color, light, space, shape, values, hues, and tones, and assorted other common artistic techniques. Judging the use of artistic technique is more of a precise judgment, than just saying, "Oooo this is pretty or Oooo that is pretty."
Blizzard did receive several awards for best art direction, best visual effects, and something else, I don't remember what it was called at the moment. Furthermore, I'm a graphic design major, and we spent MANY HOURS in classes discussing the artwork in games. I find it interesting that all the instructors seemed pretty "Wowed" (no pun intended) by the artwork of WoW. Much of the graphics you see in WoW are pre-rendered (not computer generated), and that, to ME, is beautiful. (I don't really care whether you think it is or not. Doesn't de-value the artistic worth of it at all.) So....whatever you want to think is fine.
Incidentally, WoW isn't the ONLY game that I think has "amazing" artwork. I also think Aion is absolutely stunning. There...ya like the word "stunning" better?
Either way....it's my taste, like I stated. Your taste may be different....and it STILL does not make the actually artisitic value of Blizzard's graphics any less. Nor does it make any other games less, or more, just because of MY opinion.....or.....YOURS.
So...what exactly is the argument here? We're arguing that you have better taste in art or what? That's a pretty tough road to hoe, considering that taste in art is HIGHLY subjective. You think WoW's art isn't good, I think it is. (It would also be interesting to know, which of us has more experience in art in their background. I was never a game designer, but I did work for Hallmark for years, and I do have a degree in graphic design.) We simply don't agree, so there....argument settled.
Yep, totally agree and finally tired of this. So PLEASE, wither enjoy the screenshots that were kindly put up for people who do like the art style or lets bury the final stake in the coffin and let this rest in peace.
There you go again not actually responding to a question or a point. Just a little dig and some misdirection. New WoW graphics are amazing compared to what?

Dear WoW Hater/Troll,
Please come up with another analogy next time when discussing WoW. The whole WoW=MacDonald's comparison is overused and unoriginal, not to mention wrong. If you want crystal clear photo realistic graphics, go and play a FPS. Most of the mmo's with "better" graphics often look much more fake and blocky BECAUSE they are trying to look real. I'd say more but its pointless. Obvious troll is obvious.
Is a man not entitled to the herp of his derp?
Remember, I live in a world where juggalos and yugioh players are real things.

^^ Spot on
...and yet WOW plays much better than LOTRO, which is all that matters in the long run.

Next topic please.....
