Yea because WAR is way more fun that WoW.  I don't think WAR will have the same mass apeal as WoW.  I mean there are people on wow who have never even played a computer game in their life before they picked up wow, because it's so simple and easy (dumbed-down) to play.

    /rolleyes

More like because their friends/family swore up and down that it was an awesome game, and it runs on almost any computer. From a technical standpoint it's one of the highest quality MMO releases ever. That's why it's still on top. And no, I'm not a fanboy, I haven't subbed to WoW in well over a year. I'm just not afraid to say it like it is.

Heh no its dumbed down...If 80% of all WoW players decided to quit WoW and try a game like EVE or SWG (pre cu) they would quit in about a week cause of difficulty.... I mean before fucken WoW there was no ( or very low amount) of kiddies playing. And that reason is because its simplistic. Which is fine but personally i like CHALLENGE not endless "endgame" grinds...another example is comparing something as simple as crafting, any retard can craft in WoW, try comparing the crafting in SWG which is like 3 years older then WoW. WoW was fun while it lasted but all there doing now is restarting the game every damn expansion making a year+ of hardwork meaningless. No thx, grats to the peeps that do enjoy it tho.

Well you obviously hate WoW. I'd have to agree to the guy that responded to you, you're being ridiculous. These are video games. No, when I started playing WoW and moved to SWGs (pre-nge) I had no troubles playing it.

WoW has the same amount of "kiddies" playing it as any other MMO out there. This is the biggest load of BS I see about this game. WoW did not single-handedly introduce the genre of MMOs to children, games simply grew as a part of life for children. Any MMO out there now has the same amount of kids playing as any other MMO (excluding the ones specifically aimed at children). I think what you are confused about (as many seem to be) is the difference in age and community, which I can honestly say, can be quite poor in WoW.

Give me an MMO that isn't a grind please, I'll play it. You're thinking of single-player RPGs, and even some of those can be considered grinds!

Crafting is supposed to be simple, it is not supposed to be a challenge or a frustration as it was in pre-NGE SWG.

I don't see anything wrong with having to start a new leveling experience. Last time I checked experiencing new parts of a new game world is fun.

I'm not a fan of WoW, but a subscriber. I play it because there isn't anything better on the market currently and it's simple fun. There's a reason it is the Wal-Mart of MMOs. I'll be having fun playing my Death Knight and you can have fun hating the game using ridiculous excuses.

Well I don't disagree with the guy about the merits of SWG's crafting system or a few of his other points. I just think anyone who says WoW is "dumbed down" is fundamentally misinterpreting the game's appeal and continued popularity.

Of course, one can always find reasons to believe they are more intellligent and sophisticated than the next guy, but the reality of it is that's rarely true.

For me, there's no way it can fail. The combat seems solid and I'll be too busy running around yelling "OH MY GOD I GET EXPERIENCE FROM PVP I LOVE YOU MYTHIC HAVE SOME MONEY"  to notice any serious flaws.

Heh, novel concept isn't it? Imagine that, being rewarded for having fun playing the game.

If only more game designers thought about it that way

if war fails (to entertain me) im going back to lineage2 and keep my aoc account open while waiting for aion and chronicles of spellborne. as i did in the past i try ddo each module since i like them very much.

seeing that matrix only, age of cammelot and other stuff is still out there i dont think games utterly fail these days if they have a company backing them up that is ok with not having 10mil subscribers like wow.

for the market to stay alive and competitive its really nice to have the choice what game suits your gamestyle, flavour of lore and time-resources best.

for the market to really evolve fast it would be best tough to have 2-3 heavy competitors tough to fight for their customers and not just shove the monthly subscription onto some ceos bank account

Whether you personally enjoy the game or not is immaterial. Hell, I can't stand to even look at the game anymore. I am basing my evaluation of the game from a technical standpoint. The game will run on practically anything. There's rarely serious lag problems anymore, the game is highly polished, serious bugs get addressed more quickly than in almost every other game, the tooltips explain almost everything in the game very clearly and the various UI elements are easy to navigate. This is not dumbed down; it's intuitive and accessible and as I said earlier, this is why WoW is and will probably remain king. As far as MMOs go, it's a Ferrari for the price of a Honda Civic. That's why it's still untouchable, and all the MMO shovelware that has been released in recent years has failed to gain traction with the market.

This genre wouldn't be so full of absolute garbage if gamers and developers alike understood the real reason so many people still play WoW. I believe Mythic are the first in a long time to have a grasp on this concept so the next couple months should be interesting.

Ahh ok then ya i agree with u. I hope tho your right about WAR (havent played it yet). Looking forward to seeing u guys in WAR :D

But I dont think WAR will suck, since its focused on pvp/rvr. with the current PvE climate of MMOs, including WoW, where PvE is imo too easy, Pvp is what is not.
You cant dumb down other players(well WoWers have been )

Vanguard sucks hard. i not trying to flame but it is horrible.

Like I said before the reason its the wal-mart of MMO's is because its so simple. Come on now I never said I hated WoW, I played it for about 2 yearsand quit after playing the expansion. The game was turned into a care-bear give EVERYONE gear game. Which is annoying as hell, WoW days was great when only the dedicated got gear. Pre Xpack there was only 3 guilds tops that can acually compete in the hardest content. You needed high organziation (much harder to find let alone organize a group of 40 people rather then 10.

All im pointed out is that atm MMO's are appealing to the mass majority which is fine. But us HARDCORE (older generation of mmo gamers) want challenge and theres easily got to be about 4 mill of us. We want freedom (multiple ways of playing the game and lvling), Lots of challenge and large amount of customizable content. When I get a bad ass epic helm I wanna feel bad ass not see 8 other people with the same helm because of how easy endgame is.

If a dev picked up the ball where SWG droped it, it would be a giant success, mark my words.

I consider myself a veteran MMO player. I started with the first Asheron's Call, which was well before WoW so I hope that counts as 'cred.' I then went on to Anarchy Online for a number of years, Star Wars Galaxies, etc...anyways.

What I want is a game that challenges my head, not my patience. Grinding for gear can go to hell, I've done it again and again and I'm tired of it. I'd rather have a character presented with tons of different options and use my knowledge of the game systems to come up with a character that suits my playstyle and can accomplish certain things in the game. I think developers could do that while at the same time making a game easily accessible, in the sense that every game mechanic is well defined and explained in the game so players understand the rule set and can use it to their advantage. WoW started off good in that regard but there is not enough flexibility in character development for my tastes. It also just got too repetitive in recent years, and I fundamentally dislike the PVP-in-a-box approach they have going with Arena.

The next game with a lot of depth and no pointless, superfluous time sink bullshit of the past will be a hit, at least for my gaming $$$. Skill-based PVP sandbox or not. Just my opinion.

    Define fail.

The only MMOs that have failed lately are auto assault and HG:L.

People need to come back to earth and stop expecting so much from games.
