this game was fun. but once i hit about lvl 18 it got boring. because its a game that follows a book series there isnt much variety in monsters, items, mounts, skills...(i could go on for a little while long but am too lazy). Personnally i would reccomend it to a lotr fan but not to anyway who isnt dedicated to lotr.

Hence why you only made it to lvl 18. There is a lot to do in this game and that story line (books) isn't even required, but it is a fantastic way to experience the lore feel like part of a larger thing.
In my opinion the original concept for the games which was "Middle Earth Online" would have been much better. To me the Lord of the Rings series just screams "SANDBOX!" its a shame they had to dumb it down by making it a linear, level based game. Im not saying the game is all bad, it just left the "I have been there before" Taste in my mouth. I never got far enough to see the housing which is what I really wanted to get to, I got about as far as the OP did. I had a few run ins with some roleplayers which were very refreshing, if I could say one thing about the game, Great Community! Damn fine people, all of them. Does anyone know if the population has gotten better?

This is no sand box and there is nothign linear about lotro. If that is the best you got to then you really have no idea how deep this game is. I can tell you one thing, you have no idea how large of a world has been designed so far. One of the best features it going to places you read about. Or better yet, places you only imagined being in ecompasses even more lands than just Lord of the Rings (books). The book quest line is the only linear thing going, and it isn't really all that linear either.
If all you saw war the noob area you left too soon. Angmar for istance is a sight to see.
I have played since beta and although I take breaks from it I never really leave it. Best MMO I have played to date.
O no I agree, I was hasty on my quick leave of the game, and wish I would have spent more time checking out the world because I loved the books, it just threw me off at the start because of that familiar "MMO aire" to it. If they ever offer a system like other MMO's do where someone can invite you back, I would gladly try it again. I just can not afford to put down for an MMO at this moment, unless I knew I was going to keep with it.

Oh and yes the population is fine, there are lulls but it gains people back durring releases, and with MoM I expect it to be busy for a very long time.
Turbine's smartest move is changing marketing to Time Warner. I have hopes they'll advertise it and get more folks. Still it is not dead by no means. If you like a busy server then I would suggest Brandywine, lots playing there.
It's one thing to not like a game for what it is. You're certainly entitled to your opinion. But sorry my friend but only going to lvl 18 and saying this game has no variety in monsters, items, mounts, and skills... You have absolutly no idea waht you're talking about.

That's kewl. I can tell you that even though end game is limited still, Helegrod and the Rift being the really two raids. They are fun and challanging. There are other six man instances which really are hard too. Urugarth, Carn Dum, Fornost, and others can be a great time for buds.
Mines of Moria will really open this game up. Right now there is around 70 million square meters of lands to explore. Mines of Moria will add another 7 Millon to that, almost all underground.
Wait until the release than grab the box set and have at it. I know you'll see what others see, a great game. It appeals to either hard core or casual players. Maybe even ultra hard cores when MoM comes online.

If he ever stuck with it and saw what lurks in the Rift he'd have never said that.
What I am waiting for is Rohan, Gondor, Mirkwood, Mordor and beyond. This game will become incredible.
Changes to the UI and the mechanics are coming with MoM, I expect Legendary weapons to really be a boon to gameplay too. I can't wait.
For crafters it really isn't a bad game either, although I wish it was a little less one sided to jewlers. But I am a grand master tinker so I benifit.
Exactly! So far in my opinion the game world is already large. But all those things you mentioned are still to come. This game has plenty to offer now and certainly long into the future. I'm personaly looking forward to it all.
Me too and there is nothing that can touch the depth of this lore, even if there is a little liberties taken. I to commend Turbine on what they've done so far.
If you want to see just how large the lands are take a trip to this site. It is a google map using top view mini map data. It represents well the world thus far.

I think he knows exactly what he is talking about. He is saying this game is very boring and bland at low levels. I think if your really into the lore and questing you'll enjoy the game straight through. Those that dont though , are only judging by the character play. It's hard for me to judge now because i haven't played since closed beta. Back then though the low level character play was really bland.
You can have the best high level gameplay of any game, but if your not pulling people in during the lower levels. Your going to lose a lot of players.
Turbine did a great job of sticking to the lore imo. This kinda handcuffed them though. They lacked some character play that a lot of people like. High damage caster and dps hybrids. I would have put Captain in the dps hybrid role but you only had 1 race option. I brought this up in beta but it was clear they weren't going to budge on the issue. Having read LoTR, Silmarillion, unfinshed tales ect . . . I didn't have a very high opinion of humans in this game. I wanted to play a Dwarf or if not then an Elf, but neither race could play the only class i liked. So i didn't buy the game. I figured i'd wait for an expansion or 2.
Ok out with the negitive and in with the positive. Mines of Moria brings me new hope! So far i have liked what i have read about the new expansion. I think rune-caster is stretching the lore a bit but i think it's going to help the game overall and pull a few more players in. I haven't found out much on Warden but i am hoping they will be melee dps with a little group utility, somewhat like Captain. Dwarf may not get either class but Elf should get both. So i plan on retrying the game when the expansion releases.

Ummm, OK... I think you need to go to Reading Comprehension 101.
As you can plainly see from my post I said if you don't like a game from the get go and or find it boring i.e. "you don't like the game for what it is" then that's fine. I can watch 20 mins. of a 3 hour movie and know I'm not going to like it. I can read 100 pages of a 700 page book and know I'm not going to like it. And I can play a few hours of a MMO and if it doesn't grab me I probably won't like it either.
But the OP clearly states at lvl 18 he didn't find any "variety" with respect to monsters, skills, mounts, etc.
He hasn't seen half the monster LoTRO has to offer at that level. He's basically just started getting skills at that level. Then he talks about items. Are you kidding me? At level 18 he hasn't seen the plethora of items LoTRO has to offer. And then mounts? One doesn't even get mounts until level 35 and you have I believe 5 different one's to choose from plus other unique horse types from garnering Reputation Points with various factions.
So as I said before, if you don't like a game for what it is and it dosen't grab you right away, fine you're entitled to your opinion. But to word it as he did is clearly nonsense.
Aside from the needless insult at the top, I'd agree with your post. My prior disagreement was that you said he had no idea what he was talking about. I think it would be better stated that "we" have no idea what he is talking about. As you put it he didn't word it very well and went into almost no detail. Which pretty much leaves up to the reader to interpret what we think he ment.
Your interpretation of what he meant and mine obviously differ. Your arguements about variety are centered around the game as a whole. You'll get more skills, mounts, ect... once you get higher , which is a valid point. Mine are centered around levels 1-18 only. I thought there was very little variety in these levels and I'd like to see them get spruced up a little. So people dont get bored and leave.
Well this is a nice game but I am so quested to death its ridiculous. I like the game but come on Turbine think of other ways to keep your fans interested besides throwing a boat and a half load of quests at them.
I remember quitting after filling all my 5 character slots. Played a lil of everything not really setteling on any specific one. Had a 28? champion.
Then i took part to an american pride political discussion in bree's ooc and someone got really rude because i suggested things he wasn't ready to consider. That was it, i quit the game then, passed leadership of the kinship and didn't log on after.
-Would you like cheddar or swiss cheese?
-Yes.

Point taken... And I do apologize for the callous remark. There was no need for it...
You left off /sarcasm.... or didn't you?
I have seen things in my life, but blaming a game for having too many quests (being zero of them necessary to have completed, outside the tutorial area) is kind of weird. It's like blaming Tesco or Wal-mart for offering too many things

Denial makes one look a lot dumber than he/she actually is.
I played my Captain up to level 42, leaving the game and returning several times. I did not find the game very solo friendly and it became very difficult to level that class type (has low damage). I was also tired of the empty zones and deserted landscapes. I like a thriving MMO community and LOTRO just didnt deliver it to me.
Current Games: WOW, EVE Online
ok first i made it to lvl 24
Second when i said following the books i meant its only got the monsters in the books wich isnt a very big variety. theres goblins, orcs, and crebain. i know later on there are things like trolls but im not that far.
Third i could never get a party together to do party quests. id stand there for like 10 min askin ppl if they wanted to do aa quest and all would say no.
Eventually i felt it was a waste of time and money if i was gunna be stuck at this lvl and never be able to do much.

get a decent kinship boy, mmo's are nothing whitout it.
Playing: World of Warcraft.
Played: Lord of the Rings Online, Starwars Galaxies.
Tried: Starwars the Old Republic, Everquest 2, Guild Wars, Vanguard, Age of Conan, Aion.
I enjoyed LoTRO until I hit 35.....I worked so hard to get my mount taht by the time it finally happened I didnt feel like playing anymore......Also the quests at that point got to be very tedious and it felt like I was just running around aimlessly......I leveled every class to 25+ and maybe that was part of the problem also.....To new players I'd recommend picking 1-2 classes and sticking with it....If you do the 7 classes like I did you end up getting bored doing the same quests over and over.....4 races and 7 classes only just isn't enough variation and it wouldnt be so bad if there were more areas to explore early..... The elf and dwarf areas are too spread out and very boring.
This is where I made it, but had a friend talk me into playing a bit more. I got to 40, and even with a group, I kept having the issues I did not enjoy.
Bad animations, characters that looked unrealistic, a bad UI, and just more of the same type of questing that I can get in WoW or EQ2.
I hope a lot of my issues get addressed in MoM.

Congratz. You really don't need to do the books but one thing which will help is get a bit higher to where you can solo the first few, get in a good kin and get help doing the others. Most content of books is solo but on those few where you need a fellowship a good kin well help. There are some good teal items to be had in the later books.
