Yeah not everyone uses X-Fire or other ways to track people playing games.

Sure, I bet a lot of people who already quit paid for 3 month and 6 month subscriptions, also those on the free month count to that total.

Wait until January for a realistic picture of who is still paying and playing.

He also claims PvP was never a major feature for AoC either.  WTF was battle keeps and the border kingdoms at 80 for then?  Just to look pretty and give guilds something else to dump gold into while they ran PvE raids?  Sorry, really disgusted even thinking about these Failcom management personnel.

Fear not fanbois, we are not trolls, let's take off your tin foil hat and learn what VAPORWARE is:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vaporware

"Vaporware is a term used to describe a software or hardware product that is announced by a developer well in advance of release, but which then fails to emerge after having well exceeded the period of development time that was initially claimed or would normally be expected for the development cycle of a similar product."

Actually that's true to a certain extent, back when the game was first in development it was a PvE game, but the community demanded PvP so they changed focus.

Of course towards the end there was a heavy focus on PvP, but look at how it's done, just a zone tacked onto the edge of the regular world, The Border Kingdoms. Oh and flag everyone for PvP in the regular world too.

Well, of course. Trials and cancelled accounts with time remaining are considered active players. In Failcoms' eyes, anyway.

And of course, they'll count every single person who works at or for Funcom as an active player, as they'll all have been given free accounts.

Ok i ll bite. As much as it pains me to say anything on this game anymore, because frankly i m bored on anything AOC. I ll say this, how many times had EE lied before, i think that sums it up.

Yeah and in the next interview he is gonna say AoC is a success...

They havent done anything but lie in interviews, hopefully they dont lie in their quarterly reports. So we just have to wait and see what next says. But there is no way in the world they have gained or maintained any people since last report. Every sign availible points in a loss of players at a pretty high rate.

No its not true. He said this on the same day that stocks fell below 12 dollars a share.

Erling needs to be careful because he can get his ass arrested by giving false claims to his remaining stockholders. This isn't something to be taken lightly and he's really treading on some serious thin ice legally about this.

People who have to create conspiracy and hate threads to further a cause lacks in intellectual comprehension of diversity.

There is NO WAY this is true.  Log on and check out the servers...  It's a joke.  There probably aren't 100K active players left.

I'll take that bet.... no way there's 400K anymore..... was a ghost town when I left last month.

Erling is merely using the Q2 Financial report number as his source.  It is like a "don't hear, don't see, don't lie" policy at the moment.

The Q2 report is recent enough that he can reference it without being outwardly fraudulent.  However it is well-known that this number includes:

    a) buddy keys

    b) cancelled but active subscriptions

    c) newly purchased box units

In addition we do not know when the sample was taken.  Due to the present tense language from the Q2 report you can assume it was close to the August 14th date...but the difference between August 5th and August 14th makes a significant difference in cases like this.

Erling will run with the number as long as he can.  What it goes to show you is Funcom refuses to be upfront and forthright with its community.  I know why it does it...for business reasons...but I think they truly fail to see the backlash this creates within the mmorpg community.  These games (particularly everything outside WoW) are built on word of mouth...possibly the most interconnected playerbase in the history of gaming.

They just don't get it.  They are only being honest and upfront when they are pressed to the wall.  Their reactionary business model is not working so well.

Get ready for the Q3 spin of the lower end of the revenue forecast (when they hit between 15.5 and 17.5 million).  It's going to be HUGE.

Q3 numbers will all be blamed on the launch of WAR and DFO.  Then the Q4 numbers will all be blamed on WoW.

Q1 figures next year will be blamed on HKO.

Now that would be funny as hell, Hello Kitty Online being the knock out blow for Funcom and AoC.

    Exactly.

My guild and another guild we did instances with just quit (60-70 people total) to go to War but a few of them still have till Dec because they bought the 6 month package.

Only possible way AoC has 400k+ active subs would be for 80% or more to be in europe since most NA players hate the game.

Sure.  Active is a relative term, and he's probably quoting his press release from august.  Who cares either way - AOC's going to be a graveyard (from what I understand, it already is) for the remainder of its life on the MMO market.  Play it if you want, but you'll probably be alone most of the time.

i love the anti fc reactions, its obvious all who left aoc now arent playing anything so they get bored and organise themselves on forums, beating the crap out of the game who crushed their dreams that they would play something nice again since every mmo supposedly sucks nowadays :)

    MMOs currently playing: -
About to play: Lord of the Rings Online
Played: Anarchy Online (alltime favorite) and lots of f2p titles (honorable mentions: 9Dragons, Martial Heroes, Dekaron, Atlantica Online)
