The casuals already ruined WoW and many other games. Let them keep their waterred down disneyland they all cried for. WAR is for real gamers. What say you?
......WOW got 10 million subs because the game is sold in like...... 27 countries or something. Pretty sure the majority of these folks are NOT playing in the same severs you are.
If WAR sticks to their guns and dont wuss out like Blizz im sure stuff is going to be ok.
My only hope...concern...is that they do NOT water down the RvR like DAOC said a few months after launch......two greens could beat an orange in seconds!.....it was BS to appease the masses. PLEASE MYTIC DON"T DO THAT AGAIN!
I wear Khakis sometimes. Does that make me casual?
a casual, meaning a casual player. what he didnt say is WoW content got dumbed down for people who didnt want to take the time to do what the more avid players did already (specific quests and content of the game that was a compulsory to complete to move on to harder parts of the game IE killing the final bosses in SSC and TK to enter BT or that u dont need the master key to enter karazhan) all this aloud the casuals to catch up BUT it also let them mix into the people who are actually good at the game and now u get a ton of noobish people playing alongside u in endgame content screwing things up left and right for everyone.
as for WAR getting the same amount of people as WoW as subscribers.... i dont know about that, WoW was launched back in Q4 of 2004 and not till this year did they score 10million subscribers.
id can see them with a good 5 mill' at the start. then it will drop a bit due to gameplay issues and people figuring out that its not for them. then it will have a chance to climb back up a bit. just like any good mmo would.
but as i see it, WAR will take a few years to come close to the same ammount of people that WoW has at the moment.
as for WAR getting 10million subscribers... it wont happen, but if it does it wont be at launch.
i predict numbers around 5 million depending on how many countries its launched in, numbers will be up for about a month the die off. due to people not liking the game or technical issues with the game. (the usual mmo thing) then it will have a slow rise. but i seriously doubt that WAR will be able to get that many people for a while. one reason, because blizzard is releasing its second expansion very soon.
im sure theres a good amount of people going to give WAR is far share of attention, including myself. but unless it can blow me away, i wont stay.

Yep, blame the casuals for WoW's shitty content (PvP wise!)...
WAR is more casual than WoW wtf ur talking about ... what killed WoW community is the mass influx of young kid starting to play . During the first year of WoW community was SO much beter imo .
There's always been something that bugs me about WoW and it's millions of suscribers.
If a game like EvE, with 250k subscriptions, can keep the game balanced and update it with free new content regularly, and not only EVE, LOTR, EQ2...
What's the % of the money paid by WOW's suscribers that Blizzard invests back into the game??
Yes, they pay the servers and offer a big patch now and then. But if you think about the 15.000.000$ that Blizzard is earning each month with those suscribers, I bet that if only they invested 15% of the money into developing the game, aka 2.250.000$ it's enough to get a bunch of developers (nearly a thousand dev's) to put shitloads of content into the game. And it isn't happening at all.
I hope WAR gets 10mill subs, but put that money earned by the game back into the game, better servers, add areas, classes, balance everything, free expansions...
Because if they invest the same having 800k subscribers than having 10mill subscribers (which I'm sure that's what Blizzard does) I don't care.

I can appreciate your idealistic point of view from the players perspective, however, these companies are in business to make profit.

That's why I don't care if they get 800k or 10kk subs, they will always invest the minimum amount of money required to keep people playing and paying their subs.
The casuals already ruined WoW and many other games. Let them keep their waterred down disneyland they all cried for. WAR is for real gamers. What say you?
Uh....war in many aspects is more "watered" down then WoW. Doesn't mean its a bad game though, it just focuses a lot more heavily on its strengths then trying to carry on with its weaknesses.
-Questing that tells you exactly where to go on your map.
-Bumping the stats in scenarios in order to compete with players that are higher ranks then yourself.
-The chicken system which prevents players from ganking in lower level tiers.
-A crafting system that doesn't make weapons or armor.
-PQs that give out free loot every round.
Also, war is much more casual friendly then wow. No longer are people tied down to 4+ hour long raids.
In hindsight, RVR is very fun and has great potential.

Good post.
Last Blizz said they had 3000 employees world wide (without counting the game masters).
The service shows: you open a ticket and you are being served. I deleted a character and they restored it an hour later. Character transfer takes an hour and of course there will be always players that can complain (and even have good reason to complain), but the ingame service is perfect for an online game.
Polishment of the MMO itself is outstanding compared to the competition. Even the haters agree on that.
The 10.9 million subs will certainly be invested in future Blizz projects as the games machine profits need to be feeded in the coming years.... SC2, Diablo3 and the new MMO.
300K is the limit to further invest in ONE MMO, all above this will let the company grow in other projects.
Also, war is much more casual friendly then wow. No longer are people tied down to 4+ hour long raids.
This is what I love about War.
I might find myself with only an hour free one evening and hop on the game. I can almost instantly find a group, I can see on the map either where to quest or where players are currently fighting each other and I'm in the midst of the action in no time!
After my hour session I can log out and feel that I accomplished something and contributed to the overall campaign.
On the other side of the coin I could play an 8 hour session and always be moving forwards or backwards in the campaign, doing scenarios, some PvE, a bit of crafting or just socializing.
I think it's balanced to cater to as many people as possible, but of course there will always be those to whom it is and never can be enough.

Yea I have to agree. Blizzard had top notch customer service for me when I played WoW. Also, I think the reason why they do not push content out as quickly as people would like is because they have a very dedicated group of 20 something people (i think) that do not put out an instance or dungeon until it is ready. All the top guilds were saying how impressive black temple along with Hyjal and sunwell are. There are hiccups of course (i.e. SSC) but they get ironed out very quickly.
Im thinking 500k subs ongoing would be an extremely good result for WAR.
In NA alone, yeah for sure.
There's a good chance that they'll release a Chinese language client as they've already said they want to have servers located in Hong Kong. If this is the case I think they'll be able to boast very respectable subscriber numbers although the payment plan will probably be much like that which Blizzard uses.

I understand what you say, and I'm sure that if WOW wasn't such a huge success, it Diablo 3 and Starcraft 2 wouldn't have already been announced, or atleast not both of them.
But I'm sure those 2 titles will pay off their development with their first day sales, and so will the new MMO.
I currently play WoW (well atleast till sunday) and have played since it's release (have been several months out though) and imo Blizzard isn't giving back enough to WoW, I know it's not an non-profit organization, but, take for instance, if you own a restaurant and there some clients that always go to have dinner there, you will make them special offers, not because you will earn more money (probably you will lose a bit) but that's in return for their confidence in you.
I'm sure there are some economists at Blizzard HQ that analyze every single $ that goes to their account and say where you can spend it, but if, for example, they offered WotLK for free, I'm sure they would hurt seriously WAR, and I hope it doesn't happen, but I hope you see what you can me.
I can't make my point in English since it's not my mother language, I guess you've noticed it, I think that the word I was looking for is that Blizzard could show some good faith on their costumers, being not only profit makers but also humans.

Indeed. And one of the better things of WAR.
