Hi all and a good evening!!
Was just browsing the forums here and had a funny thought bite my brain.
How happy do you think Sony is right now that there is another company (Funcom) that dropped the ball so bad, its taken the heat off of them for the time being., as far as MMORPG developing goes.
I can just see the Sony guys high fiving each other right now saying,
"Yes!! There is someone worse than us now!!"
Just a crazy thought.........although Sony will probably screw up again and buy the rights to Age of Conan when it is almost completely dead and put it into its stable of losers..oops I mean Station Pass.
Sincerely

I really believe that Sony could care less about it.
Sony is nowhere near any financial troubles so I think that AoC or War isn't bothering them. Just part of the market.
People who have to create conspiracy and hate threads to further a cause lacks in intellectual comprehension of diversity.
Also Sony has completely turned around one of there perceived failures ,Vanguard .
However it must give them a little sense of satisfaction to know that they aren't the only gaming brand people are or were seriously upset with
"after the time of dice came the day of mice "
I would say there would be a few individuals at Sony who would look at Funcom's plight and have a bit of a chuckle given what they have gone through in the past, but more generally i think they would just be happy that many of the subs that left EQ2, VG etc to try Conan are now back.
I laugh everytime sony tried to release PC game since the top Sony PR whines and whines about Ps3 will replace every PC home.
Perhap they should bogged off back to Ps3 instead and leave the PC alone and perhap better mmorpg shall be release in the near future.
Perhaps Funcomshould have bypassed PC and went straight for their target Xbox360. Now AoC is known as a failure, and the chance of it ever hitting the Xbox360 profitably ( if at all ) is slim to none.
Yeah, what he said. Altho is it wrong to hope/wish someone such as SOE or almost anyone else buys this game off Funcom's hands. Funcom has proven itself to be inept when it comes to patching. And maybe it's a Norweigan thing, but they are inept when it comes to any kind of communication short of PR dribble. This game will either be F2P with cash item shop within 6 months or hopefully someone else buys it up and can clean up the mess.
If Microsoft is smart, and I'd like to think they are sometimes, they won't let this bug ridden piece of shit come out on their flagship console. Haven't they already pulled one or two other "MMO" titles that were slated to release on 360? Don't see how this would be any different. Unless they are in bed with Funcom, which they might be. Funcom didn't do too well with that deal... DX10 miserable failure. Only thing they got right was coding the game for Vista 64.
Sony has got to love Funcom. Any company (Failcom) that can screw up this bad is just unbelieveable and they have taken the attention off Sony for awhile.
For me this is worse than the Dark and Light disaster but luckily I did not play that one.
You do not make any sense, as we all knows that Sony is a fat greedy company that is too big to listen to it own fans as EA is doing now, bar the hardware side. And are you saying that funcom is a hardware company too?. Do funcom make consoles?, do they make Xbox?, Walkman? do Funcom have fat cash cows as fat as Sony?.
Let me remind you again that Sony can afford a buy-out both Microsoft and Funcom together if they wanted to do so.
1: Sony is happy that Failcom has far over shadowed Vanguards failure with AoC.
2:Selling Alpha as retail product and charging monthly fee for alpha access to test it would make Failcom the epitamy of greedy companies.
3: At the current rate of Failcoms stock drop (1.98% this morning already) it wont take much to buy them in a couple more months. Probably any Pakistani 7 11 worker would be able to afford buing Failcom soon.
The real strange part is that people are forgetting about EA and how terrible it's track record is with MMORPGs.
No way in hell is Funcom worse then Sony. Obviously you werent part of SWG if your claiming that.
From my point of view, they're worse.
Sony devs: "We're number 2!! (at being the worst) We're number 2!!" (at being the worst).
And the deal with Microsoft was specifically for AoC to be it's "flagship" game for showing off Vista and dx10.
I smell a breach of contract in there somewhere.
Again, I highly doubt we'll ever see AoC on the Xbox360 ( or any other console, for that matter ).
Yeah SOE might get a laugh or two and then realize Funcom, even in the shambles it is in, has more subs than all their MMOs combined.
Hmm.
Sony ran PS1 for some ten years overlapping PS2.
Sony will run PS2 for some ten years overlapping PS3.
Sony will also run PS3 for some ten years, assumingly overlapping next PS.
This is taken from an interview about PS3.
What other company still sells and support an earlier console after they released their next generation.
But you was talking that they should abandon the PC gaming market, why whould they do that with this in mind?
I'm so broke. I can't even pay attention.
"You have the right not to be killed"
Vanguard was SIGIL's failure, not Sony's. Sony bought the company, stripped out the game and other valuable assets and shut SIGIL down. Sony saved the game and is making some decent progress.
Fear not fanbois, we are not trolls, let's take off your tin foil hat and learn what VAPORWARE is:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vaporware
"Vaporware is a term used to describe a software or hardware product that is announced by a developer well in advance of release, but which then fails to emerge after having well exceeded the period of development time that was initially claimed or would normally be expected for the development cycle of a similar product."
Learn you history and background of Lucas Arts. SWG was more Lucas Art's disaster than Sony's. Lucas Arts was pulling the strings, saw the cash cow of WoW, and squeezed SoE to do the entire NGE thing to capture the casual market like WoW has done. Lucas Arts only cares for $$$$$$.

Every posted admittance of the design, concept and implementation of the NGE comes straight from the mouths of SOE devs. They dreamed it up, made it and sold the concept to LA who was just as greedy for approving it. Again there are plenty of former SOE staff that worked on SWG that straight out admit they did it, not Lucas Arts. Sure LA was pissed that SOE was screwing their title, but SOE had all the MMO experience. They were the experts. They were supposed to know what they were doing. SOE delivered nothing but fail for that game since day 1. Everything screams that the root of blame falls on SOEs lap.
SOE also has a history of revamping their games in this manner and did much the same to EQ2. Just a quick example is when they tried jamming Station Exchange RMT down the throat of everyone playing EQ2. Can't blame Lucas Arts for how SOE treats their own games now can we and this is exactly how SOE treats their players and products.
Also SOE saved Vanguard just enough so it would launch in a disasterous state? The only company that benefited from that deal was SOE. They got a game for cheap that would have cut deeply into their current subscriber base. It was a no brainer for them to invest just enough to not fully commit and then scoop up the remains and mothball it. That game is hardly "saved" in its current state.
And after seeing the DC Universe Hands on, and seeing Free Realms and The Agency.....I can pretty much say that SOE will be losing the negitive stigma in the near future.
Heheh.
Sony couldn't afford to buy Bill Gates dinner, much less the company he built. Microsoft could however buy Sony, completely dissolve it, and never blink an eye.
Hmmmmm................
I could list about 50 mmo developers that are worse than SOE. Actually SOE is in the top 5. So they pissed off a few people in a couple games. That's going to happen if you put yourself out there enough. The work they've done on EQ2 and AoC show that they can make a game better.
top 5 mmo developers:
1) CCP
2) Blizzard
3) Mythic
4) SOE
5) NCSoft
everyone who developed the games linked on the left of the screen that isn't in that list is far, far worse. Dark and light anyone?
Make a difference!

Speaking of nonsense....
Couldn't agree more...

Eq2 and AOC? Hello There Copeland, Im reality and Ive been looking for you yet everytime I come around you hide in the shadows and then post stuff like this.... Come to reality its ok - the light only hurts your eyes for a few minutes!
Edit: Dont be scared now - come to the light : Defined so you wont be affraid : Reality, in everyday usage, means "the state of things as they actually exist". [1] The term reality, in its widest sense, includes everything that is, whether or not it is observable or comprehensible. Reality in this sense may include both being and nothingness, whereas existence is often restricted to being (compare with nature). In other words, "reality", as a philosophical category, includes the formal concept of "nothingness" and articulations and combinations of it with other concepts (those possessing extension in physical objects or processes for example).
In the strict sense of western philosophy, there are levels or gradation to the nature and conception of reality. These levels include, from the most subjective to the most rigorous: phenomenological reality, truth, fact, and axiom.
