After playing just about every major MMORPG since EverQuest, and a quite few minor ones, I'm a really picky gamer. Frankly. I'd rather have a root canal than play yet another EQ clone...

I enjoyed the last few days of Warhammer Online beta enough to put down the full price om a pre-order. I'll be playing it.
I'd like to say, "My opinion trumps yours and I've the credentials to prove it," but you know, that'd be wrong because of one thing: not everybody has the same taste in games.
If Warhammer Online is not your taste in games, tough luck. Better luck next MMORPG.
He's right this game is not very good as much as i was hoping for it to be. I have to say the beta was not very good. Combat was probably the worst, and he's right the looting is bad. The solo-ability is realy poor too, can barley kill a creature 2 levels higher than you and if you do succeed, you barley get any experiance at all.. would take a year to level up at level 5+ soloing without quests. quests , you goto 1 camp, 3 feet away get a bunch of quests, goto the next camp 2 feet away, get a bunch of quests goto next camp 2 feet away.... i'm bummed out.. couldnt even get to level 10 before i left the beta. on the bright side, the public quests were pretty good and new. the looting system was ok. but other than that.... sorry warhammer..

I dunno i guess the wow players think that the first few levels is like wow...
Once you get above 10, especially above 15 you start to get a lot of skills, some need other skills to be used on the enemy to work best (the hex chain for bw) i started to make macros ( option under the main menue)
At the moment i have upgraded my ui action bars to include 4 bars, plenty of space for all my skills buffs and various pots.
Why bring this up? It has everything to do with complex and quick gameplay, for a class (bright wiz) that started as a slow combat character. At level 18 im zipping though skills, it seems like i have a skill for every situation, and i use them all, often. The best is when my morale skills are avaliable, i can nuke someone while running or nuke their action points.
Its obvious the op played a few levels with the intentions of figuring out why he hates the game, that is fine, he will have more fun elsewhere.
For those worried about slow combat that requires no thought or planning, rest assured, the more you level the more complex it gets, the more options you have for how to approach a enemy player of mob. This is true for all classes. You really cant judge this game by playing 3-9 levels, everything really starts to take off after level 11.
Also i will add that, in my opinon the melee dps classes are great for pve at first, better than other classes....Later on even my squishy bright wizard is a pve beast, when using all his avaliable skills properly...the same is true for pvp, learn your class well and they are fun as hell in combat...much diffrent game imo after level 11.

Its like the old skool wow with no resilience, arena, and other crap that ruined PVP in wow. whats not to like? There are still avid wow players SCREAMING at blizz to make "classic" servers so they can play at 60 with no resi and crap when the game was still fun.
But, blizz is set in their ways, unless it turns a dollar so...
I for one think WAR is aboslutely NOTHING like WOW apart from the setting (which WOW stole from other games who stole it from JRR TOLKIEN the author of Lord of the RIngs who came up with he entire Orc concept as we know it).
I've been playing WoW for a long time and it's a good game at later levels but WAR is in many respects far superior as far as early game is considered both PvE and PVP. THere's just so much to do, it's just as fun being lvl 1 as it's being lvl 10. In WoW 1-10 is so easy, basic and unimaginative. Even more visibly so now that WAR is out in the open.
WoW has good animations and good instancing/rading, the rest is just meh. Boring. As hell and a grind. WoW's battlegrounds are a cheap way of doing away with world PvP and compared to the number and setup of WAR's Scenarios they are a joke and a disgrace. It's 100000 times more fun to play WAR's scenarios than WOW's battleground and dont start saying otherwise cause it's BS. WOW's plentiful CC and losing control of your character all the time is NO FUN. They even had to put items into the game that break those effects, well why not get rid of them n the first place? Because that's how WOW combat is built and I dont like it one bit.
Also, all that's been said about COMBAT being sluggish, cranky, slowish and out of sync and GRAPHICS being ugly i some areas is by now INVALID.
The latest patch fixed 99% of the issues, Graphics look great on high-end PCs, combat is smooth, linked well between characters, and animations play correctly as well, mob pathing is much improved. I'm having 100% more fun with WAR now after the patch, and I'm having a blast.
Scenarios have been changed as well in terms of animations, usualy the framrate for npcs and pcs goes down the further away they get to help mass world RVR. In scenarios however there's a limited number of players and Mythic apprently recognised that, and all animations are nice and smooth no matter how far away you are.
I won't list the many reasons why WAR is nothing like WOW because it's been done so many times before and this post is long enough.
BTW, did you know that WOW is a complete ripoff EQ1 and all the MMOs that came before it? They just took the best concepts and improved. That's how MMOs are done, live with it.
I've been waiting for WAR for years and I was really excited when I was able to get into the open beta. After downloading 10gb's and installing the game, I have to say it F**cking sucks. WAR is a WoW clone and a bad one at that, the combat is slower, looting is a pain, the graphics/UI are the same and it's just plain boring. I'm not a big fan of WoW either, but I would much rather play it than spend anymore time in an unimaginative clone MMO with no innovation. I quit AoC in preperation for WAR, that was a bad move, even with all it's flaws AoC is still much better than WAR. I'm going to resub to AoC and just wait for all the people who jumped to WAR to come back after their 30 day sub is up.

I not flaming the game, I personally like it WAR. But it is more like WAR is a Better WOW clone without auto-attack. WAR does have a Auto-Attack button, Toggle it on, you auto-attack, Toggle off you stop auto-attack. I think the tactical useage for it is while its on, you can move and auto-attack your target and keeping a high rate of DPS, but you lose Action Points for every Auto-attack thrown, thus eating up your action bar faster. Not sure on it, I played with it a bit , but my Shadow warrior is too low level to for me to notice a diffirents.
however,WAR should apply WOW-like Combat Macros into the game. Characters with Stances, Build-up, and Pet Mechanics will really benefit from this. Example, The shadow warriors macros that allows a Hotkey Bar change as it shifts into a diffirent stance, Like the warrrior from Wow.

Its really simple actually.. their main aim isnt to make a creative or innovative game its just to get a big market share which is the mmo market.. if through their research of the mmo market they realise that the BIG portion of the consumers DEMAND something totally creative and innovative.. they WILL create that.. but ATM theres no sign pointing in that direction (look at wow) .. but i wont say thats the only reason for their large number of subs.. can be due to alot of factors but thats another topic for another day....
i feel that big mmo companies have a VERY LOW chance to want to take such a big risk to create something totally new.. because they have much more to lose if it fails (take along the lines of the major shareholders in any huge company.. would u want that company to take unneccessary risk when theres a little to no risk option and u can still make money?).. to them its always the safer the better.. i think its safe to say that most of the time if u want something really new and creative u gotta look at the small indie companies well because these are people who have much less to lose IN TERMS of the amount of money lost .. and the people who invested in them know the risk and would mostly invest less .. and the amount of investment i feel is very impt because its where new companies get their funds for all their operations.. rents, pay their workers.. equipment.. so if u have very little people choose to invest in ur new little company that is going to produce an mmo your gonna get little funds to start with which means u are gonna be very disadvantaged.. and this is especially true in the mmo market when there are BIG DOMINANT players like blizzard or NCsoft or SOE to name a few...
then u ask why? why are the indie companies so keen to make new and creative stuff.. and thats because if they are gonna make a profit from making a MMO iit would be totally dumb for them to copy those big name games and make a "new" game.. why would anyone wanna pay for a LOW-budget WoW when theres a better higher budget WoW out there? So they need to make something totally new , being creative and innovative is i would say THE ONLY advantage they have against the big companies.. whether or not they will survive will just depend on how many people buying their game..
So if ur one of those people that really want a new and creative game.. theres a few scenarios that i can think of for that to happen.. 1: the MAJORITY of players stop paying for any crap(not pointing fingers) that any big company come out with and start demanding something ToTALLY new.. 2:Investment pattern changes and rich investors suddenly LOVE to take risk and start investing in new small companies..

I don't see it failing as bad as Hellgate, that was not a true MMO at all. I don't se it taking down wow either, wows graphic style appeals to a different group of players than Wars. Wow is cute and have many younger players and female gamers, 'war is grittier and looks very different.
But it is true that the interface and the combat is a ripp-off. Wow did the same thing with Everquest however, the game industry works a bit like the pop music bussiness, if something sells well than most people rip it off. Is few games on the market today that ain't a ripp from something else, Eve and we hope for Biowares upcomming and "world of darkness online".

Actually, I have to jump in here. I hate WoW, but Blizzard is the god of PC gaming. Really. Warcraft, Starcraft, Diablo, the greatest titles to have ever graced a PC came from Blizzard.
Few bugs, decent graphics so you can run games on lower-end systems, gameplay that puts other game's to shame, scripts and dialogue that just rules, and in-depth storylines. Yeah. Blizzard rocks.

WoW has a 1.5 sec GCD, WAR has a 1.4 sec GCD. Not sure why you think WAR's is slower, it just takes longer to kill people since you can't lock them down with CC.
AOC was more of a WoW clone than WAR is as well. Both are games where you level up via PvE quests until you hit end game and raid and do instanced PvP(yes sieges are instanced too, like doing an original AV). If you ported WoWs graphics/combat system into AC you would have the exact same game.
WAR might have copied the combat system but the core gameplay mechanics are completely different. The things I do while I play WAR are nothing like what I did in WoW for most of my time (RvR and PQs). AOC felt like I was playing WoW with a crappier combat system (yes DDR style combat was just boring as heck and far too simplistic).
Oh yeah what about the looting is bad, you click someonthing and click loot. There is no auto loot but I'm sure you'll be able to mod that. Maybe explain this complaint more because it makes no sense to me the way you stated it.

I've always been the type of person to take everything with a grain of salt, but I have to admit there's too much bias towards WAR/WOW/AOC to get an accurate representation of this game.
A game's first impression is it's most important. When players are biased they do not help new players form an honest opinion about the game. Players that are biased create an unhealthy amount of hype surrounding the game, which in turn causes players to be disappointed when the game does not turn out *exactly* as some random person on the internet says.
I guess what I'm saying is I would like some honest, unbiased reviews of this game. I tire of all this Bandwagon-ing that's going on here on the forums.
Comparing two games isn't a review, so please refrain from doing so in the future. It would really help people out like me who are interested in the game, but are still reluctant to spend their hard earned money when WotLK is so close to being released.

THere's just so much to do, it's just as fun being lvl 1 as it's being lvl 10. In WoW 1-10 is so easy, basic and unimaginative. Even more visibly so now that WAR is out in the open.
WoW has good animations and good instancing/rading, the rest is just meh. Boring. As hell and a grind. WoW's battlegrounds are a cheap way of doing away with world PvP and compared to the number and setup of WAR's Scenarios they are a joke and a disgrace. It's 100000 times more fun to play WAR's scenarios than WOW's battleground and dont start saying otherwise cause it's BS. WOW's plentiful CC and losing control of your character all the time is NO FUN. They even had to put items into the game that break those effects, well why not get rid of them n the first place? Because that's how WOW combat is built and I dont like it one bit.
Also, all that's been said about COMBAT being sluggish, cranky, slowish and out of sync and GRAPHICS being ugly i some areas is by now INVALID.
The latest patch fixed 99% of the issues, Graphics look great on high-end PCs, combat is smooth, linked well between characters, and animations play correctly as well, mob pathing is much improved. I'm having 100% more fun with WAR now after the patch, and I'm having a blast.
Scenarios have been changed as well in terms of animations, usualy the framrate for npcs and pcs goes down the further away they get to help mass world RVR. In scenarios however there's a limited number of players and Mythic apprently recognised that, and all animations are nice and smooth no matter how far away you are.
I won't list the many reasons why WAR is nothing like WOW because it's been done so many times before and this post is long enough.
BTW, did you know that WOW is a complete ripoff EQ1 and all the MMOs that came before it? They just took the best concepts and improved. That's how MMOs are done, live with it.

I not flaming the game, I personally like it WAR. But it is more like WAR is a Better WOW clone without auto-attack. WAR does have a Auto-Attack button, Toggle it on, you auto-attack, Toggle off you stop auto-attack. I think the tactical useage for it is while its on, you can move and auto-attack your target and keeping a high rate of DPS, but you lose Action Points for every Auto-attack thrown, thus eating up your action bar faster. Not sure on it, I played with it a bit , but my Shadow warrior is too low level to for me to notice a diffirents.
however,WAR should apply WOW-like Combat Macros into the game. Characters with Stances, Build-up, and Pet Mechanics will really benefit from this. Example, The shadow warriors macros that allows a Hotkey Bar change as it shifts into a diffirent stance, Like the warrrior from Wow.
In all seriousness, WAR is a disgrace to the MMOG genre, and mythic should be ashamed that they're releasing this garbage. What's even more frustrating is that the community continues to accept garbage like this as being "good", and because of that companies like EA will continue selling us this garbage if we don't stand up and start saying no. Aren't you guys tired of playing the same damn game over and over again? Aren't you all tired of the same recycled idea's?
What happend to the creativity in games? Games used to be an artform, now it's all about competing with World of Warcraft. We're closing in on 2009, but yet we're still seeing the same techology and architecture being used from 1999 .. that's almost 10 years!

Its really simple actually.. their main aim isnt to make a creative or innovative game its just to get a big market share which is the mmo market.. if through their research of the mmo market they realise that the BIG portion of the consumers DEMAND something totally creative and innovative.. they WILL create that.. but ATM theres no sign pointing in that direction (look at wow) .. but i wont say thats the only reason for their large number of subs.. can be due to alot of factors but thats another topic for another day....
i feel that big mmo companies have a VERY LOW chance to want to take such a big risk to create something totally new.. because they have much more to lose if it fails (take along the lines of the major shareholders in any huge company.. would u want that company to take unneccessary risk when theres a little to no risk option and u can still make money?).. to them its always the safer the better.. i think its safe to say that most of the time if u want something really new and creative u gotta look at the small indie companies well because these are people who have much less to lose IN TERMS of the amount of money lost .. and the people who invested in them know the risk and would mostly invest less .. and the amount of investment i feel is very impt because its where new companies get their funds for all their operations.. rents, pay their workers.. equipment.. so if u have very little people choose to invest in ur new little company that is going to produce an mmo your gonna get little funds to start with which means u are gonna be very disadvantaged.. and this is especially true in the mmo market when there are BIG DOMINANT players like blizzard or NCsoft or SOE to name a few...
then u ask why? why are the indie companies so keen to make new and creative stuff.. and thats because if they are gonna make a profit from making a MMO iit would be totally dumb for them to copy those big name games and make a "new" game.. why would anyone wanna pay for a LOW-budget WoW when theres a better higher budget WoW out there? So they need to make something totally new , being creative and innovative is i would say THE ONLY advantage they have against the big companies.. whether or not they will survive will just depend on how many people buying their game..
So if ur one of those people that really want a new and creative game.. theres a few scenarios that i can think of for that to happen.. 1: the MAJORITY of players stop paying for any crap(not pointing fingers) that any big company come out with and start demanding something ToTALLY new.. 2:Investment pattern changes and rich investors suddenly LOVE to take risk and start investing in new small companies..

Well, I for one think WAR is much more enjoyable than WoW, but I never got fond with that MMORPG anyways. The longest I played was 2 consecutive weeks.

I don't see it failing as bad as Hellgate, that was not a true MMO at all. I don't se it taking down wow either, wows graphic style appeals to a different group of players than Wars. Wow is cute and have many younger players and female gamers, 'war is grittier and looks very different.
But it is true that the interface and the combat is a ripp-off. Wow did the same thing with Everquest however, the game industry works a bit like the pop music bussiness, if something sells well than most people rip it off. Is few games on the market today that ain't a ripp from something else, Eve and we hope for Biowares upcomming and "world of darkness online".

Actually, I have to jump in here. I hate WoW, but Blizzard is the god of PC gaming. Really. Warcraft, Starcraft, Diablo, the greatest titles to have ever graced a PC came from Blizzard.
Few bugs, decent graphics so you can run games on lower-end systems, gameplay that puts other game's to shame, scripts and dialogue that just rules, and in-depth storylines. Yeah. Blizzard rocks.
That having been said, WoW was great, when I first played it. After discovering the staggering amount of homersexuals on there, I decided that playing an Orc wasnt so fun anymore. WAR will be greater than WoW, regardless of what-ripped-off-of-what.
The reason is simple - Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaagh!

WoW has a 1.5 sec GCD, WAR has a 1.4 sec GCD. Not sure why you think WAR's is slower, it just takes longer to kill people since you can't lock them down with CC.
AOC was more of a WoW clone than WAR is as well. Both are games where you level up via PvE quests until you hit end game and raid and do instanced PvP(yes sieges are instanced too, like doing an original AV). If you ported WoWs graphics/combat system into AC you would have the exact same game.
WAR might have copied the combat system but the core gameplay mechanics are completely different. The things I do while I play WAR are nothing like what I did in WoW for most of my time (RvR and PQs). AOC felt like I was playing WoW with a crappier combat system (yes DDR style combat was just boring as heck and far too simplistic).
Oh yeah what about the looting is bad, you click someonthing and click loot. There is no auto loot but I'm sure you'll be able to mod that. Maybe explain this complaint more because it makes no sense to me the way you stated it.

I've always been the type of person to take everything with a grain of salt, but I have to admit there's too much bias towards WAR/WOW/AOC to get an accurate representation of this game.
A game's first impression is it's most important. When players are biased they do not help new players form an honest opinion about the game. Players that are biased create an unhealthy amount of hype surrounding the game, which in turn causes players to be disappointed when the game does not turn out *exactly* as some random person on the internet says.
I guess what I'm saying is I would like some honest, unbiased reviews of this game. I tire of all this Bandwagon-ing that's going on here on the forums.
Comparing two games isn't a review, so please refrain from doing so in the future. It would really help people out like me who are interested in the game, but are still reluctant to spend their hard earned money when WotLK is so close to being released.
