in my years of playing wow i have seen a number of unbalanced issues. I hope by next expansion they make their balance better, and war's HS and launch seems much better then what i read on the first day of wow launching.

As far a launch goes, it seems ok.

The open beta was pretty solid, and I had fun.

Is it a better game than wow? I don't know yet. I will see when I get to 40.

    Groovy.

As far as bugs and smoothness etc WAR is a bit better depedning on how the server roll outs go.  But class balance wise it is significantly better.
Not that WoW was bad but it had some notable and significant problem.  to its credit it fixed them fairly quick.  Well I dunno maybe it over nerfed them, but Mythic over nerfed sswordmaster over the last couple months IMO.  So its pointless to throw stones there.

All I havde to say about WoW and how terrible its launch was with respect to class balance is:

    LOL DRUIDS.

Does ANYONE remember how insanely BAD every spec of Druid was EXCEPT Restoration and, to add to that, Druids had INSANE training costs for skills -- remember, they reimbursed us?

But then again, most WoW-a-holics only remember the good and the forget the rest. It was and IS a great game, but it had MANY more -serious- issues at launch than most of us care to recall.

Warhammer may be more "simple" if you judge it by its cover, its bells and whistles -- but it is a solid game with what I believe will be endless fun and glorious RvR for years to come.

If RvR is your bag, this IS the game.

WoW does every aspect of the MMO genre well, for mass appeal, but in my opinion, does not excel at all aspects. It is the Jack-of-all-Trades in the MMO universe.

Warhammer has a little for everyone, but its focus is large scale and , so far, insanely addictive RvR. I start to jones when the queue takes more than 5 minutes!!

    EDIT: Tewwible grammerz.

Yeah and now Druids are Over powered out the ass.

I think its safe to assume you didnt play one or the other (or both) at launch. For me launch started 2 days (though granted, they need to get past the official launch) but I was also there for WoW's launch and I can say, yes WAR surpases WoW on the launch charts.

Since headstart I have had 0 crashes, 0 bugs, great graphics and loads of fun content, the combat is perfectly smooth now, on par with WoW.

WAR's launch is ALOT better then WoW's launch, anyone saying otherwise is in denial. ( Well technically  it hasnt released yet, but I don't see major problems in the future )

Either way, WAR will succeed with 1,5 million copies sold to retailers, even if they loose 500k subs ( which they wont ) gives them 1 million subs and the NR 2 spot in mmo land, which is all it needs to be.

RvR is the best, and there is nothing in WoW that even comes close to it. ( for me personally )

WAR is insanely better than WoW was at launch, in just about all aspects. Shit, you could barely PLAY WoW for the first month.

  • StellosStellos Member UncommonPosts: 1,491

I'd have to agree with Barnett on this.  There are a lot of similar factors here though.  Unfortunately it is another gear-based game!  I'm sick of that shit, but with that said, WAR is a lot of fun when people stop focusing on getting gear and just play the RvR.  Whereas WoW the ONLY thing people focus on is getting good gear so that they can go get better gear.

WoW's problems came from too many subscribers. They were expecting two hundred thousand subs and they got millions.

It's is as if you threw a party for ten of your friends and hundreds showed up. That many people would stretch your resources.

I'm glad he feels its a good launch, well except for GOA but still its pretty good, and it should be a better launch then WoW, i mean how old is WoW now? so yeah i'm glad they are doing well with their launch.

Helps them too that they have more experiance with mmo's then Blizz, i mean WoW is blizz's first mmo, of course they weren't gonna launch very well.

For all those out their who are getting sleepy from WoW-WAR will big a great game to try out.Mabe be even better than world of warcraft. Now im not so sure of that but (off topic, diablo 3) should be way better than WoW on the count of it has better game play. But we will see how WAR will live up to its expectations.

Launch is on Thursday.  Early entry is such a small group its really more of a continued beta.  Which is good since we elder testers got kicked to the curb when early entry started.  Was hoping Mythic would be bright enough to follow Funcom's lead and keep elder testers involved in the public test but not so much.  At time of 'launch' the known bug list for WAR is still a multi page document with the words 'not yet implemented' pasted all over it.

The problem with WAR in beta hasn't so much been that things are horribly broken its that things go from working to broken and back again.  Here's hoping the I can't attack you but you wail on me just fine bug doesn't come back ;)

Should mention with WotLK out in two months there is really no harm in playing WAR since you can cap out and get a good feel for WAR then spend some time in WoW after the exp and decide for yourself which is more your cup of tea.

For all those decrying WOW's launch, keep in mind the majority of their issues were related to having too many folks join up and greatly exceed their capacity.

WAR may suffer the same fate. (if they're lucky)

game working nicely if you dont count some minor things, what worries me is the lack of crafting. It seems it has not been looked at all, guess I should not be supprised as paul screamed "this is WAR, not crafting online!" But still it lowers the fun in the game for many who enjoy crafting and hope they will fix it.

otherwise, BRING IT ON DESTRO! ;)

Seems like a much better game at launch to me. WAR went smoothly, no problems. Very stable, havent run into any bugs yet, enough servers to play on. So as far as I can see, Paul is telling the truth.

I sure hope its better then WoW at launch cause they had  4 years to learn from  Blizz.

Anyhow..is it better? Untill players reach endgame in WAR we cant really tell if its better. So untill then its all conjecture

you said yourself that WAR had 4 years to learn from WoW,so in turn WoW has had 4 years to build up it's end-game so WAR cant be judged on who has the best there.

Dont care "what is best" as long as WAR keeps me busy and having fun then it is a success in my eye's.

Comparing WoW's launch (which was 4 years ago) with WAR's launch not WoW today with WAR release

I kind of agree, but it doesn't mean much since WoW launched so many years ago.  Everyone just wants to compare everything with WoW.

I don't like pompousness, or arogance though and I have never really liked Paul Barnett or his style of marketing.

I am in love with the game though.  So many funs.

So now we judge how a game is at  LAUNCH based solo on its end-game?

dear ohh dear, what a fickle bunch mmo players can be.

Paul is 100% correct to not agree with this would automatically make you a fan boy. The facts are not disputable, the game works, you don't lag, you can loot items, mastery/talent system is in , pvp rank system is in, bg/senericos are in, open rvr, is in , keep takes + seige are in (still not in wow), classes are far more balanced, pathing is better, mob behavior is better, less crashes  (i still get more in wow than in war, both of which are rare).

Lets be honest war is a polished game at release, and it has plans/ and room for more polish.

You can say well mmos are differenet , but every major mmo released forever has been in worst condition including a few recently release, TR, AOC, Van, etc.

Now gameplay is another matter , i personally like it just fine.

Unfortunately it's the nature of the beast these days. Everybody wants to compare release and end-game similarities and differences with WoW because WoW has made such a significant difference in the MMO industry (whether or not anybody wants to admit that). This is all they have to compare to, most of these players haven't been playing MMOs for a longer period of time than since WoW launched. Most every MMOG since then has been total crap.

I have to agree on some level that WAR will come as a Better Lauched game than WoW did, but it's primarily due to the fact that four years ago, there weren't half as many people playing MMOs as there are today. The god-knows-how-many number of subscribers that are now customers of Blizzard Entertainment are now experiencing the same difficulties and social exploration with new game launches as all of the rest of us did when we moved from games like EQ to Horizons, or Shadowbane.

Think about it guys; history repeats itself. I doubt WAR will challenge the subscriber base of WoW (I've played beta/headstart, and there are just a few things about it that I really see holding it back from being the next big MMO), but it definitely will have an amazing launch.

So in that respect, EA/Mythic did a good job.
