I think they pad thier numbers, but my point is WAR will not break WoW, nor will it ever see WoW numbers until it releases in asia. Let's be more realistic ok? War will be full, don't worry.

There around 4.5 million western subs the other 6million are asian, its all in their press releases backed up with sales of TBC of over 3.6million in the first month (subs were around 3.8million in EU+US when TBC launched) , that was box sales in US+EU... cant argue with box sales.

There are about 430 US+EU servere serving that 4.5million player base. Yes there wont be a million on a server more like an average of 10,000 (more more some less).

WAR is ok (if WoW was never made), I bought it, spent about 2 hour in it today with my squib herder dont feel too impelled to start it up again TBH.

i thought it was 5000 per server.

but yes its not a million per server :) my freind thought that too..

well yes not 10,000 or even 5,000 logged in at a time.  But around 10,000 (individual accounts not characrters) before the server is flagged as Full, no one knows the server caps on the server its all guess work.

    Lets take my server "GrimBatol"

This server has since I join it in 2006 always been set as Full or even Locked and I can look forward to queues everynight.

Warcraftrelams.com show this has having a character population of 27,000 (not offical numbers), Lets half that to get rid of the alt population we get 13,500 characters.. so I think 10,000 is safe number.

    But its all guess work.

WAR will be solid.  It will hold a good chunk of subscriptions.  IT will not be a failure and will be seen as a shining beacon for the dying MMO world.

It will not puit a dent in WoW!

You can't compare AOC to Warhammer, sorry.

Warhammer not only has more history on AOC but it also has x10000 more PvP/RvR content than AOC.

Warhammer might possibly be bigger than WoW in Asia.

I lived in China for 3 years, and lived among the gamer population.  One thing about Asia and MMOs is its all about PvP and the PvP in WAR is far superior to WoW.

WoW has had 4 years to develop it's PvP and all it has come up with is 4 maps and it's biggest thing is fighting in a closet with up to 5 opponents, the 3v3 being the most popular.

If anyone has made a pre-made 80 in WoW and tried out Wintergrasp, you know how much of a failure WoW PvP has become.  They even went so far as to try and ripoff Warhammers idea of opening an instance through PvP.

Blizzard knows without PvP it's game would have failed and will lose a core of it's gamers to Warhammer's PvP.

MMORPGS are all about PvP, Lineage 1/2 are huge in Asia for it's PvP. but Warhammer will far outdo those.

Sure WoW will continue have 10 mill subscribers, but all the true PvPers will be in Warhammer, which is what more and more WoW PvPers are gonna find out over time and head over to WAR.

In summary WAR PVP > WOW PVP.

This is not up for debate.

Other than BGs being implemented (which ruined the game imho) and a few other things here and there NOTHING in WoW has ever been fresh. All the new content is always copy and paste yet the masses have stayed with it this long, what makes you think  they would quit now?

Everyone knows world of warcraft, its the same ole same ole, mainstream rpg for the mass market, when the TBC came out its like aww man lets race 10 lvls up in a day and get new gear from quests to replace are epic gear we had from spending hours upon hours to get in raids, and now when WOTLK comes out and all that choose to play it, as soon as you hit those quests your gear will be replaced again and youll do it all over again. rinse repeat not to mention the fact blizzard takes forever to release an expansion. When will the wow fanboys ever be ready for something fresh? after 20 lvl 70's? only time will tell

First I thought.. This guy is drunk. Then I realized that could not be possible since you are clearly not of drinking age.

Then I thought.. Where has this guy been? Living in a hole in the desert? This could be true and if so your post is acceptable even though completely wrong.

I have no love for WOW but to think for one minute that WAR will even reach 7% of WOW's active "paying" subs is to drowned yourself in total and complete nonsense. But hey, in the end you will have a War/Funcom tattoo on your ass and will be ok.

I couldn't agree more.... I hope he is ready to welcome back 10m WoW players after the free month is up.

True. It's like the OP has had a complete break with reality and doesn't understand why WoW is as popular as it is and what demographic War speaks to.

    who - cares?

The masses of subscribers playing WoW are just numbers, you play on a realm with a few thousand people, and you never ever meet or talk to people from other realms (cept in BGs). The game could have 5000, 50000 or 50 000 000 players; you would still have your buddies and your server.

So as long as your game has a solid playerbase that pays enough to keep the game up, maintained and running, why on earth should you care about overall subscription numbers...

As much as I hate to say it, WAR is craptastic! The game is garbage...

  • BroomyBroomy Member UncommonPosts: 487

    TO the OP:

Arent you comparing apples to oranges?  WOW is primarily PVE, WAR is primarily PVP.  WOW has PVP as a sidenote, with class balance based on PVE action.  WAR will be the complete opposite.

I play WOW and intend on trying WAR, but in no way is a PVP game going to replace my quest-based PVE MMO!  Sorry Charlie!

    Current Games: WOW, EVE Online

I predict that 189,649 people will cancel their subscriptions to WoW to play WAR within one month of its release but that 69.567% of these new WAR subscribers, plus another 78,345 WAR subscribers who were previously WoW subscribers but not when WAR released, will resub to WoW on 11/13/08.

Theres a flaw in your theory. The year doesnt have 13 months. So the 11th of the 13 month doesnt exist. So really are you saying anyone who goes to WAR will never resub to WOW.

War is an OK game.  It will keep some of you occupied till probably the end of the year, some of you even less.  If you have played the beta, you would realize that there is not that much content in the game at the moment, and sorry, but RVR just gets boring after awhile.    This game will be exactly like AoC, everyone screaming for more content.

Hence Blizzard has exactly zip to worry about, they might have a two month dip in the playerbase, but that will be it.

Most gamers are asians and they seem to love their grindings. And since WAR has very little grind it will not topple WoW.

But in the west it just might be able to dethrone WoW.

BATTLE OF THE INTERNEZ HAS BEGUN!

War seems to be to WoW, what WoW was to all the previous MMOs. the same thing, just done better. And I for one am sick of the same old thing I'm waiting for Darkfall! no level up system = no grind! Dark fall will be a truly Unique game and I cannot wait!

It's been in development for the last 7 years, but from I'm reading from the dev diary, I'm guessing we only have 6-8 months more to wait!

WAR will be good but it will never reach the player base of WOW. WAR will bring alot of intresting concepts but IMO I think it will be a disappointment.
