Stargate Worlds.. are you a fan?

I have watched the original Stargate movie with Kurt Russle and I liked it.. I haven't got to into the series on Sci-Fi, but my gramps watches it everyday.

Anyone else into it at all?

Meh, I always found the show to be a poor-man's Star Trek. I'm just learning about the game here a bit since I won a beta key today.

I enjoy beta testing games, so not being much of a fan is ok to me, long as I get to squash a few bugs and see what the game is about while i'm at it.

That's what made it so great. They never took themselves or the show too seriously. They had a lot of fun making it and this came across really to the audience.

It's funny, I live downtown Vancouver where they shot the series and saw the stars a few times around town. I love sci-fi, so it was cool to see some cast on a show you saw the night before walking down the street.

As I said, not a real fan here, but I do like the show, its sci-fi after all.

Both SG-1 and Atlantis are great series, and I'm a huge fan of both. Don't know much about the upcoming MMO, though.

Never watched SG1 with Mcguyver  but I've watched Atlantis from the beginning.

That's like missing the back story to Atlantis. Hehe.

But yeah. I was there for the very first episode of Stargate SG1 when I was young. But I missed a few seasons through out the middle, but caught on again towards the mid-end of the Stargate SG1 series.

Watched every Atlantis episode so far as well.

As for the movie, I watched it after watching SG1 for a long while and I appreciate both.

Huge fan of the TV shows.

Watching the game somewhat suspiciously to see if they come up with a good game.

I don't think Stargate fan is a requirement

It is Stargate, but it is also a Sci-fi MMO, i would think being a MMO fan would suffice enough. I do not think the company can hope for the game to do well if they appeal to only the Stargate fans.

I am Stargate fan and quite interested in where this game is going. No telling at this point, but I am definitely keeping my eye on it!

You know it Amy, I LOVE sci-fi and watch SG if it's on, but being a fan shouldn't be a pre-requisite, they are aiming for a much larger player base than just fans.

I can honestly say I can't stand any of the television shows.  Everytime I've tried to get into it, I couldn't look past the terrible writing and acting - it all just felt so 'cheap'.

I LOVED the Stargate movie, however.

I'd love to see Stargate Worlds succeed because we really need a great Sci-Fi MMORPG.

Why do I write, create, fantasize, dream and daydream about other worlds? Because I hate what humanity does with this one.

BOYCOTTING EA / ORIGIN going forward.

Ill always be a SG fan...its somewhere in my top 5, i just want to check out the MMO...

  • Die_ScreamDie_Scream Member Posts: 1,785

Star Gate and Andromeda were about the same to me. Both were cheap and campy, but fun. My guess from what i've read is the game will be a level based, class system (they promise more flexibility though) tank and spank, with end game instances.

Not that there's anything wrong with that.

    Still, what justifies the hype?

Since when was hype ever justified?

    Haha, now that's hype!

"..the subscriptions will head into the millions...".

There are millions of fans (in Australia, which I am one of) and moreso worldwide. This is good for the subscription numbers (hence the "into the millions") and this game will be fun and easy to get into for non-fans, who will then want to watch everything stargate, and hence, the game will create MORE fans!

PS - dont forget that "Stargate Universe" starts filming next year, aimed at a younger audience, and will drive the subscriptions even higher!!

    Check it out!

burdock, you could say the same for any MMO based on a well known IP. AoC, or FF, or MXO..? It will all come out in the wash, but I haven't seen any evidence this game is going to take the world by storm. In fact, it doesn't even seem to be known generally.

Look, i'm not suggesting an opinion on the game, I can't till I beta it for awhile, but just don't get too hyped. The MMO genre is an unforgiving bitch when you hype them too much.

  • burdock2burdock2 Member UncommonPosts: 420

Die_Scream I have yet to see you post anything positive. There is nothing wrong with hyping a game, and I have seen plenty to be hyped about. It may not be the game for you though if you cant find something you like about it.

See, now you are projecting your "black or white" perspective on me.

Did I say anything remotely negative about the game? No.

You are hyping a game that you haven't played over the top, with no evidence at all...of anything.

I'm going to be testing the game, squashing bugs and letting the devs know what can be improved, just as I have done in every beta I have participated in.

It's not an issue of whether I like the game or not, its an issue of having a balanced view.

I'm really looking forward to seeing this game in its full glory. I enjoy mmo games and loved all things stargate just hope they have made a game I can love as much. I dont enjoy combat esp PVP so much am more a crafter from what I've read about plans for game so far I think they are trying to make it available to all types of players, just hope this does not make it too bulky and complicated to get started in.
