Sounds about right. Maybe Sarah Palin-Hilton will stand in and do the debates.

he wants to act like a senator and help address our economic woes.

he also didnt just postpone the debate, he suspended his 'campaign'.

i guess that means he's not out stumping.

Sorry, it means McCain is a chicken.

He's lost his nerve.  Or something else.

He cancelled his appearance on Letterman tonight.

He's incapable of multitasking, therefore he's not qualified to be President.

He's just delaying the inevitable. Kerry destroyed Bush in the last debates and Bush got all emo and went into a "I'll protect all Americans from terrorists" rage. Look what we ended up with. I wouldn't be suprised if McCain wins the election and continues on with the Bush Doctrine instead of real change.

Joe Klein on postponing the debate:

McCain suspends his campaign because of financial crisis? Oh please. Given today's poll numbers--even Fox has him dropping--it seems another Hail Mary (like the feckless selection of Palin) to try make McCain seem a statesman, which is difficult given the puerile tenor of his campaign's message operation.

    The desperation is palpable.

McCain hasn't been present for a vote since April.  Why does he all the sudden think he has to do his job?

McCain's campaign apparently thinks a lot of people are stupid.  Obviously they are on to something with some people.

I swear liberals are pathetic.  The man is doing his job.  He decided to cancel campaigning (which isn't a job you know.  There is no requirement to campaign at all to run for President and honestly we would be better off if campaigning was illegal) so that he could go back to Washington and work on this problem.  If anyone honestly thinks this is going away soon they are a moron.

Senators need to be in Washington leading and fighting against this problem.  McCain isn't showing that he is afraid that he is going to lose or that he is desperate.  He is showing that he really is a different kind of Politics.  Just like his position that he would rather lose the election then lose the war.  He would rather lose the election then have this financial crisis get worse.

This is the first forum where I actually seen McCain being the bad guy for wanting to postpone the debate because he needs to do his job as Senator to fix the economical crises. Other forums, including some pro Obama are saying he (Obama) should postpone to get this crises fixed; debates can always be rescheduled. The economy cannot.

Some of you guys....I mean....do you try really hard to act foolish or does it come naturally?

Oh you mean like Obama throughout his Senate Career?  Voting Present doesn't mean anything.  Obama is the biggest piece of crap candidate that I have ever seen.  Heck I would rather vote for that Admiral that was Perot's VP candidate then Obama.  He has the worst kind of politician, one that is willing to do what ever it takes to get elected and has no character or moral fiber.

The funny thing is that my wife and I are the moderate votes that Obama is courting.

We voted for Nader in 2000 and 2004.  (I really can't stand Bush, Gore or Kerry).

I voted for Ron Paul in the Florida Primary and she Voted for Obama.

We are fairly conservative on fiscal issues and liberal on most social issues.  (other then Abortion which we are both Moderate on)

The problem is that Obama has talked and each time he talks he drives more moderates off.  His flip flop on troops in Iraq was what drove my wife away.  She listened to his speeches throughout the Primaries and heard his "Troops will come home right away" talk.  Then as he wrapped up the nomination it become more of a "based on  ground conditions and a will be a long phased out withdrawal" she got mad.  If she could she would take her vote back.

The one thing that makes her feel better is her vote really didn't count (since it was Florida).

If I vote for McCain (which I am leaning towards as well as my wife now) it will be the first time I would vote for a Republican into office.  I wasn't old enough to vote in 1992 or 1996 but in 1992 I would of voted for Ross Perot.  1988 I would of voted for Ron Paul.  You would actually have to go back to 1980&1984 for the last Republican that I would of voted for which is Ronald Reagan.

But of course Liberals on this site will proclaim me a hardline neocon because my positions couldn't possibly be moderate.  Oh no the average american couldn't possibly believe in self responsibility and financial responsiblity which are the more moderate views.

she should have voted for Hillary.

I guarantee you she would have been a shoe in. She's a moderate's wetdream.

Just out of curiosity; why didnt your wife vote for her?

Obama refused to accept McCain's offer of doing ten town-hall style debates; opting instead the  3 very controlled debates that he agreed to; that's the chicken in the roost. It is ludicrous to think that McCain is being chicken when he has suspended his campaign. he asked to postpone, not cancel.

Obama is the one showing he places politics first -- and that he is no leader.

Interpret it any way you want to. I'm no McCain fan but I know a good move when I see it.

I think the town hall argument is a little weak.  When was the last time we ever had a town hall format for a presidential debate?  Debates are a very big deal, and are a sacred part of our general elections (if anything in politics can be called "sacred anymore).  Major elections have been won by debates.  JFK, Lincoln and other great leaders trounced their opponents in formal debates, and that helped them win the big ticket.

Asking Obama to change to a town hall setting would be like asking Adrian Peterson to play a rugby match instead of the Vikes game Sunday.  Why agree to something that has no precedence and caters to your opponent's strengths?  We all know McCain likes the Town Hall format since his scripted lines sound better, and he can manage the crown more.  Obama is a grandiose speaker, and requires a big stage.  Thankfully enough, presidential debates are on a big stage since we are talking one of the most powerful positions in the world.

The debates must go on.  The GOP was legit with postponing the RNC due to the hurricane, but this is uncalled for.  This election is monumentally important, and now more than ever, we need to see the two candidates challenge each other, and to see who has the better ideas.

No he was asking for ten town hall debates in addition to standard debates; obama chickened out. watch how it goes down. McCain asks to postpone for the sake of the country. Obama, snotty child that he is, says, no, the debate must go on, I can walk and chew gum at the same time. Since OBAMA refused to postpone, McCain then shows up and debates, but walks in there in the position of "I chose country first, YOU, SENATOR Obama, chose politics first."

Once again McCain has thrown Obama off game. Watch.

With being an Obama supporter, I hope you are wrong about this :)

My prediction is that the bailout will be approved well before Friday, and all of this will be for nothing.  Just like the hurricane.  If Warren Buffet invests $5B in Goldman Sachs counting on the bailout, then its a slam dunk.  There will be a pissing match between the level of oversight that is involved, but in the end, staving of a recession is everyone's goal, and this bailout is the only way to do it.

Because she stuck with Bill even after all of his cheating and it came across to my wife that she stuck with him only for her political career.  Also she has made statements in the past that put down mothers who stayed home with their children which pisses my wife off.  My wife stays home with our kids not because she is some uneducated person who can't get a job (she actually has a Bachelor's degree) but because she loves to and thinks it is important to give the kids a great foundation to work from.

Damn't Enigma. As soon as I heard about McCain doing this I figured that you would be one of the few on these boards to call him out for a political stunt. I guess I was wrong.

Come on people. McCain wants to win this campaign. Obama wants to win the campaign. Every single second from now until November 4th will find these guys being 100% political. McCain made this move because he thought it would win him the election. Obama called his bluff because he thinks it will win him the election to do so. It is a political move aimed straight at the stupid people out there who will eat it up and spew it back out with giant stupid grins on their faces. As soon as McCain announced this every single Republican interviewed all said "This makes McCain look Presidential", "This shows McCain is a leader", "This shows McCain puts his country ahead of his campaing". It sounds nice but it is complete bull. Fine, it is campaign strategy, but recognize it for what it is.

I want the debates. I want to see what Obama or McCain can do in a debate. Obama wasn't being "Snotty" in saying No to McCain, he was being my candidate. I was proud as hell he called McCain out. Kerry, as much as I liked him, might have folded. McCain took what was to be a joint-statement and warped it into a political move. He said "I hope Obama follows me". In other words, I hope Obama jumps on the bitch seat. I even heard Hannity setting the trap up by make sure to point out over and over Obama was going to "follow McCain".

Watch.

It is as if you completely mis interpreted Dis Ordur's post. Not only do you stubbornly go on, you ridicule Obama by saying he "chickened out" and "snotty child that he is." A note for you, your childish insults and complete disregard to what someone says come off as immature.
