Let's get the big question out of the way right away, yes; I have low-pop server news for you.
To help address the server population concerns that have been brought up by the community we will be implementing a Free Character Transfer program early next year. I do not have specific dates to announce now, but I do know that it will only run for a limited time. Any transfers made before the program kicks off will not be refunded. Additional details on this Free CTS program will be revealed closer to its start date. Also, to help clear some land on the servers, we will be running another House Pack-Up right around that same time. Both programs will have some cool rewards associated with them (marketing made me say that SMILEY ).
As a huge lover of Halloween, monsters, horror films, and everything frightening one of the most exciting projects for me to work on since I've joined the team has been the Galactic Moon Festival. Our first ever Halloween event, the Galactic Moon Festival is poised to launch to the community at large on October 14th and will run through November 7th. Moenia and Mos Eisley have both been transformed into haunted attractions for all Galaxies players to visit. The cities and rewards look brilliant. I am particularly fond of the Galactic Moon Festival painting which depicts the Galactic Moon Festival organizer, Z'ozpheratu, in a dramatic pose. Swede, AdeptStain, and the art team all did a bang up job on bringing the Festival to life. This new annual event is sure to become a favorite for fans of all things macabre. The details of the event are as follows...
Jabba the Hutt has decided to throw the scariest festival of the year in both Moenia (on Naboo) and Mos Eisley (on Tatooine). He has ordered the cities to be fully decorated with fog, spiders, gravestones, scarecrows, and numerous other creepy items. He is encouraging all citizens of the Galaxy to visit the Galactic Moon Festival organizer, Z'ozpheratu, to obtain a costume and go trick or treating for Galactic Moon Coins. Z'ozpheratu will also be providing trick or treat devices to costumed citizens so that they can attempt to scare any folks who are stingy with their coins. Galactic Moon Coins can be redeemed with Z'ozpheratu for exciting rewards. Jabba has even provided a reward that is exclusive to Entertainers that will bring notes of joy to everyone's ears.
There are a lot of neat goodies associated with this event. I am going to be in there myself trying to get as many of them as I can. I look forward to seeing what all the interior decorators around the Galaxy will come up with!
Of course we have Hoth on the horizon as well. I hope everybody has been keeping up with the Friday Feature "sneak peeks" that we've been putting out as they offer a nice glimpse into what the team has been sweating away on for the past few months. The team members are still all stapled to their desks polishing it up and fixing bugs. We are at a stage now where we are play testing the instance several times per week and implementing the feedback that comes out of those play tests to ensure the experience is as fun as we can make it. The scope of this Heroic is unlike anything we've released before. It will be larger than any previous content push outside of our full expansions. The Hoth chapter will also include a cool Snow Machine as a publish gift (marketing made me say that, too).

I just wanted to put this down also as I know one question will be what will happen to resoures.

So it looks like they will allow people to move resoures around as well. Not to sound like an Agent Mulder, but does it strike anyone besides myself as odd that Blixtev is leaving and now they are doing this? If I recall Blixtev was one of the ones saying they wanted some other way in order to keep rare resoures 'rare'.
Only if I was paid to do so... well if a trial account could work and assuming my character is still around, I just may.
I'll make a bet though to anyone, that the Character Transfer Process will have its problems and bugs, causing the stats of items to fluctuate, but not in the favor of the player.
Which does make me wonder what would happen to 2 crates of Pre-Nerf Pre-CU FWG-5's during a transfer or let alone pull a FWG from the crate? Could a server crash occur?! Most likely not... but then again when old data from old code, which was not purged or scrubbed gets reintroduced into a new environment...
How about making that into a bet?

Does that include the third character unlock that was gained through the old pre NGE jedi system?
If not ..then no , all my characters or..... no cash for $ony from me.
I am glad that SOE is going to do this as players have been asking for this for a long time.
However SOE has said they were planning on doing something about low-pop servers for a long time. I recommend nobody get there hopes up till this chicken hatches.
Since I don't trust SOE and I feel anything they do has a strong chance of ulterior motives behind it, I offer a theory. Pure speculation on my part.
Early 09 for free transfers. Early is a subjective term. It only has to come before the year's half way point to be considered early. This can put it sometime in late June. I think this will happen. It will keep people playing as they wait "knowing" one is coming. When it does come I expect something to happen.
They will have this transfer right before Bioware officiallly announces the new game's beta. After this nobody is going to pay to transfer any more. This transfer window may help to get a month sub fee from players that don't play now. Quick cash grab from those that didn't feel $50 was worth it but $15 is o.k.
The idea will be to get as many people onto as few servers as possible. This will encourage a "healthy" server appearance longer as people start to fade away from the game either to play the beta, realize no more content is coming, or since it has been made offical just stop and wait for the new game to go live.
My guess is SOE will shut down the empty servers and force transfers of the few remaing to save costs.
After the new game goes live (ready or not; EA) for the 09 holiday shopping season SOE will do one of two things. Dump SWG purely onto Station Pass and let it rot as a marketing tool for Station. Or LA won't let two SW MMOs that charge money exist at the same time; SOE shuts SWG down.
Again all speculation on my part given because of my distrust of SOE.

This is going to be a disaster. The low population servers will just be worse off than they are now since there are people who won't want to transfer. Take Kauri for example...if they can't convince 100% of Kauri's players to transfer then Kauri ends up worse off than it was before transfers.
This is so typical of SOE--give a half-assed solution to a huge problem that will end up causing even more players to flee the game. We are in for some good times here in the refuge.
Sure makes that $200.00 I paid last December to leave Kauri much more of a waist.
Sorry to hear that. But look at it this way. It could be as late as June 09 before they implement a free transfer. That would be a year and a half you have been able to play on a server with 10 or more people on it. May not be worth $200 but at least you got some value for it...right?

I believe the vet trial will happen and end right before the free transfer period. As incentive to get people to resub. Just so SOE can get the $15. It could be argued they will do it at the same time. Hoping people will love their new server, but I doubt it. I think the free transfer will be timed right before offical Bioware announcement. I smell cash grab before the bottom drops out. Just my opinion and guess.

I may use a free trial to get a free transfer to another server if I'm able to. Depends on whether or not that's available, plus whether those in my (currently inactive) guild decide to come back and transfer somewhere else as well.
I will not pay to try the game any longer. Not until they prove to me the game is worth paying for once again. I gave them enough time and money already waiting for the game to get back to a state I'm interested in playing. If I can't be drawn back during a free trial period, why should I waste any more money on the game? This isn't a stance I take with just SWG/SOE, but with all games anymore. Nor will I pay one cent for transferring. That includes re-subbing in order to transfer.
The last time I logged into Kauri I only saw five people online on my friends list of two hundred. By the time the free trial was over, three of those people had transferred and one had quit. Need more than that to bring me back.
This is at least a step in the right direction. Got to give them credit for that. Just not sure if it's too little too late for me at this point. This should have happened a long, long time ago.
that's gunna suck for established crafters on high population servers. And it puts a strategic spin on where to transfer if you're a crafter.

YES, there are mechanics now in game to move the Unlock Slot. Its not easy to explain but its a matter of freeing it of a character, moving it, then assigning a character to it again. People who unlocked, deleted their toon and never remade it can now re-claim the Unlock Slot to use with a new toon also.

There is also a command, I believe called /transferunlockedslot that allows you to move an empty Unlock Slot to another server. I haven't used it but the ability is there now.
I want to transfer back to pre CU.

If I remember, HT went from a 15 second timer between heals to a seperate ability that recharges what? 45 seconds? And note, DOTs were dominating pvp last time I played (last spring), doesn't surprise me to why people weren't happy with the HT change and the fact that commando is the huge FOTM and DOT king.

you clearly didnt comprehend what was posted. he stated that it was the icing on the cake. There were obviously other reasons other than the change to herm touch that compouned his decision to leave the game.

I've been critical of Smed for not following through on his promise to fast-track server mergers. People debate whether or not this was a good plan, but I just noticed that it was promised and didn't happen.
I also noticed that SOE was charging people to transfer off of dead servers, and charging them extra to take certain things with them.
This pattern of saying one thing and doing the other, and finding ways to apparently squeeze more money out of subscribers has always bothered me. I also happened to notice, in contrast, that Blizzard has given free transfers.
If SOE now says they are going to actually offer free transfers. In my mind that's a very welcome step. I just hope that they follow through, and work hard to implement it in a consumer friendly way. If they do this, it will certainly be one step in a new and welcome direction in my view. Again, follow through, and a consumer friendly implementation will be key. I guess we'll have to wait and see what that looks like.
That's kind of like saying the case of crabs you had this week was better than the case of crabs you had last week. Either way...you still got crabs.
They will just end up condensing the remaining servers down after people pick where they want to go. They did the same thing with my vanguard account. This is just for the people who really care to make sure they get the server they want first and try to keep their name. (If a player with the same name already exists you gotta change yours, if you wait and they condense the servers they change the name for you, usually by adding random numbers to it).
I don't have any big plans for going back anytime soon, so I'll just let them toss my chars on another server and take my chances with the name thing. No way would I pay just to go in and move people around in a game I'm not planning to play. By now if I went back I'd have to start a new char cuz it's been so long I'd have to relearn all the new crap they keep shoving in there.

Why is Jedi better than they were pre-GU-4? I've seen no patch notes for jedi at all since GU-4. (Commando re-vamp)
And, you have to know that GU-4 wasn't all of it. I think I've been the absolute most vocal on the C6 combat CHANGE. I was also very vocal at losing my "grey" jedi to become a WoW-ified "tank". (GU-3) Then there was the "block" CHANGE. Then, GU-4. Expecially after DM announced all the GU-whatevers would be "small tweaks" instead of major CHANGES.
But about the middle of the GUs (before GU-3), DM went to DC, Blix lost his leash, and the rest is history. Arkon wasn't really to happy over GU-3 and GU-4 also, if I remember right.
