No -what he has honestly convinced himself that he is trying to communicate with someone with limited capabilities and the NGE is the half way home of the same. This will make Smed Smile for ear to ear - I choose my words very carefully - perhaps you should take my lead.
This does not make any sense.
Muhahahaha - and you really want me to come to your server ------ I hope that this comes true.
Did I say I wanted you to come to my server? Sadly, no. I don't care what you do. But you obviously want to come to my server, since you asked me which one I was on. For what reason, I can only guess. So indulge me -- why are you concerned with what server I play on? Is this all part of your grand scheme to make me toast? I prefer it with butter and jam.

I prefer wheat toast, thx. Also, very clever on the Google search.
Subscriber numbers were originally expected to exceed 1,000,000.[48] In August 2005, SOE reported that they had sold 1,000,000 boxed copies of the game.[49] In early 2006, unconfirmed reports showed that only 10,363 subscribers were playing on a particular Friday night, but Smedley denied that subscriptions had fallen this low.[50]
It would seem someone has tampered with the wikipedia page for Star Wars Galaxies; surly that should read 100k subscriptions.

So I started to walk into the water. I won't lie to you boys...I was terrified. But I pressed on, and as I made my way past the breakers, a strange calm came over me. I don't know if it was divine intervention or the kinship of all living things, but I tell you, Jerry, at that moment ... I was a marine biologist.

Ohhh No, SWG is just a game and I believe that you are referring to is something that I have no time for, so rest easy but please note that you are not messing with an MMO newbie.

Cool. I've been asking for one for several months and nobody has been able to do it. Which is strange because if there are tens of thousands of happy players it should be easy.

7k is probably closer to the truth than 90k. Based on activity across all servers and having an idea of how many players a server can physically hold, the total number of SUBS, not players, is probably between 25-30k.
Is a man not entitled to the herp of his derp?
Remember, I live in a world where juggalos and yugioh players are real things.

It doesn't really matter that much. 25-30k is still pretty sad. The actual number of ACTIVE PLAYERS is probably closer to 10-15k, with some of them having multiple accounts. The number of active players is the key number.
More than likely, the free server transfers are a precursor to server merges/shutdowns. They're probably waiting till after the Hoth thing is put in to devote their resources to the server transfers/merges/shutdowns so they can get an idea of what kind of numbers they're looking at. The server transfers will probably be enough to keep the current players happy for a few months, during which time the new Star Wars mmo will most likely be announced. After that, swg will probably just be put maintence level support until it shuts down shortly before the new mmo comes out. As long as swg is making some money and the new Star Wars mmo is still being developed, swg will live. We'll get an idea of when swg will finally end when a release date is set for the new mmo.

Yeah I could *maybe* buy 25k subs (including station pass subs) but based on what I saw my last few vet trials there's no way there are that many people actively playing. I would put that number below 10k.
You're right though that it doesn't really matter. 25k is less than one tenth the number of people who were around pre-NGE and pre-CU. That is some truly epic fail there...
Sticking with SOE's past experience and their current transfer model...
I will be willing to bet to move your character with NO items will be free, to move with items will cost you.
Bingo! Any deviation to the free CTS, be it destination or items, will carry a price tag. I wouldn't be surprised if the resources and crates will be able to trasnfer before the free CTS just for a quickie money grab. There are lot of players who have been waiting for that alone.
Read what they are doing, all items will transfer, even resources. Not all servers will be on this list. What they are doing is allowing smaller servers to free transfer to medium to large. This was needed long ago, but its going to make the game play alot better for people left on small servers.
The problems of the past are being addressed, its slow, but the games on a upswing. Its not dead no matter how much some people wish it was. In the next two years I expect things to significantly improve for the better. Thiers no place but up people, we already hit rock bottom this year. Soe and La have too much invested they are not going to give up until its pointless. Why? they are still making money. 90k subs = 1.3 million a month, not bad for a dead game, lol.
And the 64 dollar question is why did it "hit rock bottom" this year, isn't it? If they do not learn the lesson, SOE is BOUND to do it all again.
SWG hit rock bottom due to the same facts of ALL the other previous "rock bottoms". They CHANGED the game, yet AGAIN! (C6CD thru GU-Whatever) After the 1st loss with CU, and the mega loss with NGE, this time the game simply had NO subs it could afford to lose, but............., they did it anyway.
90K subs, at this point in time, is nothing more than dreaming. Smed released at the beginning of C6CD, just before the loss started again, that they had 100K subs. Do you EVEN remotely believe it's anywhere near that now? Not even close!
SWG is down to what? 5 or 6 developers now? In a way, that's probably good for the remaining players. They will not be able to do anymore $OE style CHANGES with that large (or that small) a dev team. And, Blix, the CHANGE artist, trained by NGE is outta there.

I have read the Producer's Note, have you? Resources and crates being able to be transferred are a part of updating the transfer system. This indicates that resources and items WILL transfer outside of the free CTS period. I am sure the free CTS will be very restrictive to where, so before, during and after the free CTS, there will be money to be made by $OE. Free transfers and/or mergers should have been done months, if not years, ago.
90k subs?!? LOL! That number isn't even a possibilty with active free vet trials thrown in. The dead servers attest to the abysmally low player numbers much more than your wishful 90k estimate. The game is on maintenance, no more and more less. It lumbers along on Station Pass life support as Pass filler. If you honestly believe for a moment that this 5+ year old trainwreck is on the front burners of $OE and LA, then I can understand why you believe your mythical 90k subscriber number.
I see many potential problems to free CTS, and yes I wouldn't be surprised if devs did free CTS with NO ITEMS dispite them talking about adding the ability to transfer resources & crates which probably will be only for charged transfers but only time will tell.
Dead servers like Kauri & Tarquinas and many others are just going to suffer further, I also don't like the suggestion on the forums of adding new fresh servers for people to transfer to since that'll add to the already 20ish suffering servers and increase maintenance costs for SOE.
This seems to be a lose-lose situation for both devs and players.
the low population servers can't suffer further because their fate is already sealed. They either completely die earlier or completely die a little later.

Its going to be interesting to see what happens on Oct 21 with the annoucement of the LA/Bioware MMO (which we all know is KOTORO).
This GREAT IDEA of the LOOONG overdue Free Transfer instead of a Server merge ( Which BTW is the lazy ass reason why my lazy ass friends at SOE are going with this way instead of working for their paycheck and do server mergers but what can you expect from a Company that has had a great time pissing on its PC mmo past and look forward to polluting its MMO console future)
The Problem is by the time 2009 rolls around Blizzard WoW will have its 2nd ( not 20th) Expansion will entrenched and the competitive MMOS of 20009 will have launch or be close to launch.
Its too little , too late for SWG I am afraid - Sorry Smed.

90 thousand subscriptions? I dont think so... if this was true there would be no need for transfers at all....
Where did this information about 90 thousand subscriptions come from? If this were true, as the person above said, there would be no need for free server transfers. Furthermore, there would be far fewer servers with the classification of "Very Light", there would be more players hanging around in cities, and there would be far fewer dead cities. In all honesty, my guess would be maybe half of that at best, and in that 45 thousand subscriptions i'm includeing the accounts which are used to farm, trial accounts, and also the fact that many people in the game run more than three accounts at once.
Even if they had 90K they'd still need server transfers. Even 250K had relatively thin populations on servers like Kauri, the difference today being that that Kauri of Pre-NGE would be "HEAVY" (as in NGE'd "HEAVY") like Bria or Bloodfin today.
My guess is the NGE pulls actual paying numbers a lot closer to 9K than 90, and the realistic number of servers that can be supported by the existing subs a lot closer to 5 than 25.
The servers have a maximum of 3k per server allowed to be logged in. There are no waiting que's these days. The heavy and light is a fabrication by SOE. I bet server merges are coming for those that will stay with the game next year. If "The Old Republic" is a new star wars MMO SWG is going to empty out a bit. So server merges or free character transfers are on it's way regardless. Also if there are 3k on at once with this NGE combat code the servers will crash. I bet SWG gets closed one year after the release of a new star wars mmo.

Is a man not entitled to the herp of his derp?
Remember, I live in a world where juggalos and yugioh players are real things.
Thanks, Jestor! If it wasn't for you I wouldn't have found out about that post! (I mean it)
I think you fat-fingered that one and hit the 9 and 0 keys at the same time. The last figure I heard was 7k so I'm sure you meant 9k subs. SWG hasn't seen 90k players for years.
If you have honestly convinced yourself that SWG has only 7K subs ... wow.

It would have got here eventually but I made the effort first - Strange that I was.
But you are welcome

You are not the only one pissed I'm guessing. Few months back there was someone putting in 800$ to transfer his characters.
the low population servers can't suffer further because their fate is already sealed.
