Aion's graphic requirements would run on both ps3 and xbox360 0n the highest settings easily. You can debate this but it's true. NCSOFT is known for it's amazing texturing ability. Which is why aion and lineage and all the others look so good. Lineage is still an amazing looking MMO but is how old now? In my mind NCSOFT has had the best resource managing games I've ever seen. I doubt aion is an exception.
As far as AOC being the best looking. That is in the eye of the beholder. There is a shift among gamers right now. I feel few want real "realism" and most want fantasy "realism". I find Aion to be far better graphically than AoC for a video game. I am bias towards asian art, granted.
One last thing about GFX, for those who say that you have to model a games max gfx settings for a console. You don't. It's that simple. All they would have to do is limit the max settings for a console version, and unlimit it for PC version. This has also already been done before.
That is all I got to say for now about GFX.
Bringing an MMO to a console is good because it also brings players. More players is ALWAYS better for an MMO. I'm not talking about residual effects, like making the game easier to compensate for retards who started gaming 2 years ago. I'm talking about just shear numbers is good, no matter who they are. I am one who feels the different gamer cliques need each other. Without the hardcore, the casual has nothing to aim for. Without the casual, the hardcore has no reason to attain it. This is a very basic statement as that is not what this post is about, but it boils it down well for the purposes of this post.
FFXI did not suffer because it went to consoles. On the contrary, it helped that game out immensly. Also I did not see a difference in the types of players joining like you think you would. I expected more younger players, while I was actually seeing more teens and early 20's playing on consoles.
I'm a hardcore gamer, I've been here since the beginning of games. Since pong at a college. I'm now a game developer(on a much smaller scale) I've played just about every MMO to date. I myself cannot see any negative, other than devlopment time, to adding consoles to an MMO. Let's not forget that SONY is not allowed to use directX/XNA related API's, microsoft isn't handing that out.
Having a console version also increses money. As a portion(i don't know how big) of players owul dbuy both versions if they liked the game. Myself included. I like playing on my huge samsung TV. I would still play on the computer, but I would occasionally play on my console as well
Wow someone dug this topic out from a long time ago. I was informed that there is no plans to port Aion to the PS3. So I was shot down lol. (the community manager posted it in this thread)
However there is no doubt in my mind that the PS3 and 360 could run Aion on atleast medium settings no problem at all. The biggest challenege would be making the UI more controller friendly. You see FFXI had a controller friendly UI. MMO's made with PC in mind do not.
For a console MMO we have to wait on Square Enix's new MMO.

Free Realms en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Free_Realms PS3 version due Q3 2009
Blade and Soul has only been confirmed for the PC
bnsfacts.wordpress.com/2008/08/04/this-is-game-interview-47-qa-part-2/
Q46: There is a rumor that Blade & Soul is NCsoft’s PS3 MMO?
Bae: There’s nothing specific about the plan. We only have 60 developers which is just enough to make the PC version.
on topic with Aion,
I don't think any console version was planned
