Why did Blizzard add nothing new to WOTLK ?

So I spend 100 hours getting gear for my char and now I might as well have never played. Blizzard wrecked the game again but this time watch the mass exodus to alternates. Blizzard got drunk on profits and forgot that the customer matters first.

WOTLK is all the same stuff with new colors.

So you only played 100 hours? Must be a low low character with grey and green gears than.

Present day Wow players just love the new gear rewards put out every 6 months (be it through Arena, BG, new dungeons, raids, professions, crafting, etc ...).

That argument you are using was one of the late 2006. Since then we all buy, sell, quest new items every 6 months or so.

You also buy a new shirt and pants every 6 months in RL no ?

Nice try, But do keep up the effort.

Blizzard never does anything new. They take what is known and well liked, and they polish the heck out of it and put it in their game.

As a casual player I never have this issue. In my 4+ years of playing WoW I've never been involved in a raid, so I've not suffered from the dreaded 'gear reset', nor have I succumbed to the deadly Burnout(tm).

    Nothing new?

A new hero class ( Death Knight)

    A new profession (inscription)

Moveable seige weapons and aerial combat

    Multi-person vehicles

    A new landmass ( 10 zones and 30+ dungeons)

10 new levels with new talents and new spells for all classes

Same great gameplay that is enjoyed by 10.7 million players.

    What game do you play?

This is the biggest problem with WOW and all other MMO's that follow suit. Instead of  having a living and breathing world that you can mold and diversify your charater in. Everyone now has become that hampster on a wheel, mindlessly grinding, questing, or whatever for that epeen gear.

Please tell me that this is not what MMORPG's has become. Nothing more than a grindfest clothing show. Where dev's every so often throw a new bone out and the masses follow blindlessly like a bunch of zombies. Please don't get me wrong. I think WOW serves a purpose and has it's place in the MMO world. It's just that if you sit back and look not only at WOW, but almost every other major MMO, it's all the same.

MMORPG"s are supposed to be full of life, character advancement, through actions and things that you do on a daily basis. Clothing and gear shouldn't be the end all be all of anything.

Yes i have played WOW and have 2 lvl 70 toons. I am also playing WAR and except for the RVR pretty much is the same game in a differant skin. My highest toon in that game is a 23 and i am doing and feeling the same exact thing i felt while i played WOW.

Start a toon ,grind and do quest for a little and collect better gear. Get board with it, start over, rinse and repeat. The same has happened with COH/COV, Vanguard, EQ2, Tabula Rasa, AOC and pretty much every other cookie cutter class/ lvl based MMO i have played.

If these are the things that keep the majority on their toes filled with excitment, the MMORPG genre is in big trouble.

When another MMO comes out and can break 1 mill or 1.5 mill subs, then we may see a move towards better MMO's. Possibly Blizzard will then release another MMO that will rule that change as well. WOTLK offers a great deal of content to a game that has already way too much for a less than hardcore gamer. Compared to any other MMO on the market that you have to pay per month for, WoW still gives you more for your money period. I'm still waiting for the next great MMO to come out and hopefully give WoW a scare but it still may be 3-5 years away.

Well, it all depends on how you define new - because if you're referring to something new as in original then best thing to do is retreat to the shadows as Blizzard will rarely if ever release something truely original.

  • odlaodla Member Posts: 4

What exactly would you expect from an expansion? New gameplay? Different graphics perhaps? Blizzard reworked the stats of certain classes, created new content, created a new class, added battlegrounds, added new skills and reworked others - just about something you would expect from an expansion. Now, I do tend to think Blizzard somethimes gets lazy in their content, but if you expected something drastically different, then I think you expected World of Warcraft 2.

Go play Tabula Rasa if you want something original.  Not only do they have the original idea of making skills that do absolutely nothing and combining it with the original idea of having no clue how to make a game you get many more original new features.  Such as the original idea of announcing some feature then releasing something completely different and then claiming that they're exactly the same thing (granted Funcom stole this idea from them, so you can experience that in multiple games now).

I'm sorry but on the scales of 'companies that have screwed MMO players where it hurts' Blizzard barely ranks.

Umm Blizzard did the same thing.  Did you ever see the old pictures of wow with the higher polygon counts?  Also maybe the original Honor system?    I think every MMO has pulled the switcheroo on us.

Well, there are some new things but most fans don't want to many new things in their game, Blizz fears that wows fans would leave if they changed the game too much.

They are probably right too, why changed something that works? If they changed it a lot, then some players would leave.

Sharajat, there is a difference between false advertisment and constantly [throughout the years] procrastinating in such a manner as Blizzard do - but unfortunately this is the way of the World. As of now, Blizzard do one thing exceptionally well and that is; refine. However, in the coming years it will only serve to hinder them as eventually companies will grow some balls and venture into new, more exciting ideas.

Blizzards is obviously a failure.  How many people are subscribed to the MMORPG you created?

Original honor system was a joke.  It rewarded people who spent 150 hours a week PvPing and nothing else.    95% of the players loved the fix.

As for the higher polygon count, this smells like a stupid internet rumor to me.  I was in beta, it always looked about the same.  Someone threw together a few "Screen shots" on their favorite engine, and you bought it because its anti blizzard.

If that's your best examples of blizzard 'promising things they can't deliver' they're about a zillion years from being CLOSE to most MMO maker's leagues.
