Now to finally bring some content into this thread:
ccp wrangler:
"Ghost training" will be stopped at downtime if the account has been unsubscribed for 3 days or more, it is not an immediate stop and by petitioning you should have it sorted before the training stops.
Taniquetil CCP sell that to you when u start the game
(also in wow u get rested exp)
You get rested XP , but you still need to play to gain the levels.
Why should you get anything for not paying for the account? Now if they stopped OFFLINE skilling I'd quit , that would be worth shouting about.
Plus ofc , the old EULA chestnut - which basically says they can change what they want.CCP have not handled it well as usual - guess I just expect stuff like this from them now (sigh)
Seems it will just stop alot of exploiting , however it may have been better if , when the account goes inactive you get "rested skillpoints" . When the account re-activates and is paid for you could spend them on the skills you wanted to train.
Originally posted by Taniquetil CCP have not handled it well as usual - guess I just expect stuff like this from them now (sigh)
PR is obviously not one of ccps strong sides. Nothing new here though.
On the positive side, they just put storefronts (new&improved addition to contracts for corps) and weapon linking (no more changing ammo for 8 guns separately) on sisi..
I will have our tech people look into why it's not showing up anymore on the main page as it should be.
Please post here if you are having issues accessing the thread. Please be sure to keep your comments regarding the blog and the upcoming ghost training changes in the above thread
I remember the same happening to some other threads that grew extremely fast. CCP should finally replace their own forum software with something stable..
OP: Please go away for a few hours and take some deep breaths. Would you expect a WoW / WAR / AoC account etc to GAIN levels while your account is inactive? What would be the point? The only reason everyone is pissed at CCP is because this means you won't be able to train a load of extra characters and then sell them for isk to noobs who can't be arsed the play the game properly. The fact that Eve still lets you skill while you are not logged on is a massive boon over other games anyway.Geez next you'll want CCP to play the damn game for you and then blame them when your ship gets blown up.
I think you are comparing apples to peas here. The point in EvE is exactly that you get rewarded for not playing the game. No matter how many times you fire your lasers, regardless how you perform in game, the progression stays fixed. In all other games you mentioned you actually have to play the damn game to improve your online alter ego. However, if you consider clicking on a skill in your character screen as playing, then by all means, you are correct by your own standards.
They basicly are telling you now that the Battleship from IV to V will now cost you about 2 months subscription flat (as an example, there are others). So it is a price increase for probably quite a few of their most loyal customers, those who hold several accounts. You could probably argue if alienating your best customers is a good thing. Some wrote that it is, as it will supposedly prevent 'noobs' from acquiring Avatars allowed to pilot the more glamorous virtual spaceships. Heaven forbid that those unwashed Hordes spoil it for the glorious pod-pilot master race by actually getting to fly the same ships as those who got this privilege by watching bars fill up over several months. If you think that is an archievement, then we probably won't come to a mutual understanding here.
Also, they very recently have offered you to acquire additional accounts at reduced rates. If you took the offer under the then correct assumption that you will get to train those accounts even when they will become inactive sporadically, you may feel screwed now. You might feel that you are not getting what you paid for, and I must say, I would agree with you.
Finally, I liked the part in the announcement there they went to blab about that it is all in the name of game balance. It speaks of their healthy disdain towards their fanboys, sorry, customers that they assume that they will either believe that for face value or just suck it up anyway.
Finally, I liked the part in the announcement there they went to blab about that it is all in the name of game balance. It speaks of their healthy disdain towards their fanboys, sorry, customers that they assume that they will either believe that for face value or just suck it up anyway.
And if you read the follow up post (also posted in this thread) you would have seen them own up to the fact this was done primarily as a money making move to combat a recent upsurge in people who are letting their accounts go inactive while training up long train time skills.
So they want to make money, and took away a bug/game mechanics or whatever that I thought blew anyways, since I pay for my accounts through thick and thin. Maybe those folks with 18 accounts (but probably only 3 active at any one time) will suffer, but guess what, I don't care.
Play if you want, leave if it bothers you. Not surprised the original thread on EVE forums is crashed, damn thing was at 50 pages the first day... like anyone is actually reading it at that point, just a bunch of folks who want to hear themselves talk.

I haven't seen angry players like that since SWG's NGE.
LOL! this is nothing like the NGE.
If CCP was taking Eve and changing all the spaceships to tanks and taking away skills for levels and making 0.0 space PVE then it would be on that level.
I am entirely for this change. While I have a gripe with CCP I support them here. I have five accounts and I have never used this 'feature'. I have always paid for my accounts, even when I wasn't playing, as a courteousy to CCP and for the use of their service (skill training). I do not have any sypmathy for those who abuse the system and they are now no longer getting their free service.
CCP have claimed they have been left untouched by the economic crisis that has hit Iceland and has bankrupted the country. Icelands national debt is five times it's total yearly income and Iceland is now hoping the IMF and the World Bank will come to its rescue. Despite their claim CCP might be preparing for some hard times ahead and we can't blame them for being worried. If you think you can then leave.
The whole problem here is not the change itself. The problem is the way it has been presented and the way the backlash is being handled. CCP announced it two days before its implementation and then, in an attempt to stem the flow of dismay, have blocked one thread, deleted another and have deleted many posts in the 101 page 3000+ post thread that is still going strong now. While CCP are on full damage control the deletion of posts, threads and blocking the 'official' discussion thread has inflamed posters and players even more. You guys can think whatever you want but CCP have deleted a 50 page thread and blocked another. The rage in http://myeve.eve-online.com/ingameboard.asp?a=topic&threadID=896318 is something I have never seen before.
EVE has been losing players for a year now. Last year March there were 42.711 players online in EVE, yesterday there were 33.604 online (http://eve.coldfront.net/status/tranquility). There is a downward trend and, unlike Blizzard, CCP do not have millions of players to cushion the effect of losing hundreds, maybe thousands of players. Time will tell but I hope this doesn't happen. EVE is a great game and it would be a terrible thing seeing EVE die.

You are comparing the wrong numbers. If you want to see a trend, you'd need to compare both weekend and weekday numbers of aussie and euro/us peaks. If you had actually calculated those numbers, you would have seen a much less drastic decline in active users, which can still be explained with seasonal changes. If you can not see the numbers rising this fall and winter, then you can be worried, as these are usually strong seasons.

must be where all those free expansions come from...hmmmm
that free expansion come from player proposal mostly most of player give idea about game balance etc
Yes, just like every other game on the market that makes you pay for every single expansion.
All I'm saying is it's pretty stupid to say "CCP=Greed". CCP is a business and as such they try to put out the best product at the most competitive price while still making money. So there asking me to pay to train a 2 to 3 week skill on an alt. I may not like it ( I don't actually ) but it's not that big a deal and it certainly doesn't rise to the level of CCP=Greed.
i guess my math isn't that good. could you help me with my math, please?
let's say i have 5 accounts. 1 account is always active. the other 4 get a 90day GTC, then when that's up, they train for a 30+ day skill and come back when that skill is finished to get another 90day GTC.
let's say some idiot decided that there shouldn't be 30 or 90 day GTCs anymore. i didn't like that change, so now i have 3 or 4 accounts. 1 account is always active. the other 2 or 3 get the one remaining type of GTC, when it's up, they train for a 30+ day skill and come back... eventually.
now, let's say some idiot decided no ghost training. i have 1 account. 1 account is active (for now), all alt accounts have been thrown to the wayside.
so, 90 days = 3 months, correct? 90 days, 40 days, 90 days, 50 days, 90 days... ok, in a year's time that's 9 months paid for times 4 accounts... 36 months, plus the one account that is always active for another 12 months... grand total 48 months, correct?
change that to 1 account for 12 months....
before idiots started making changes, ccp was getting 48 months of playtime paid for by me; after a couple of incredibly stupid ideas, they are now getting 12 months of playtime paid for by me.
12 IS less than 48, right? so, just from me, they've lost the equivalent of 3 years of playtime each year.
you're right, ccp = greed, is incorrect.
it should be more like ccp = idiotic decision followed by incredibly stupid decision which in turn = profit loss
could we please get correspondent writers and moderators, on the eve forum at mmorpg.com, who are well-versed on eve-online and aren't just passersby pushing buttons? pretty please?

facts like my post below yours, that shows that ccp will be losing money from me, personally, because of their two recent, incredibly daft decisions?

actually, it goes from a lot of people paying the equivalent of 3-5 gaming years of gameplay per year, to them paying for a single game year per year.
plus all those alts that are bought and sold and who are paying a transfer fee whenever they're sold... oopsies, there goes that money as well.
yeah, massive bug that existed from the beginning of the game, was "fixed" once before but quickly put back in place because ccp realized it was a horrible idea TO remove it.
