Way to much lack of information.
Everyone should start demanding a new release date because they cant obviously finish beta, have an open beta, and then release all this year. They have taken 7 years making this game and they still only have very little information coming out. I have seen this crap before. (Dark and Light/Mourning for examples) They always have this awesome list of features and make their game out to be in perfect shape then they hit us with a load of crap after years of hype.
By now they should honor everyone with a weekend test to see what it is like or start showing off more videos or keep us up to date as the game gets closer to a release.
Some of you may take the typical stand for your game like they should be busy working on the game, etc. Dont waste your time this game needs to stop jerking around and give people something to get confident in this game.
MMOs are far to untrustworthy these days if they want any success they have to be giving every detail perfection if they want to compete.

When you make your own game, you can set the timetable for the release of information. Aventurine still has till the end of the year to release their software, I'll taking a wait and see position until then.

They have already said there will be no pre-orders and there will be a free trial of some sort because they want you to try the game free before you ever spend a dime on it
When they launch it they launch it, if you want to play it before you buy it guess what... you got your wish! lol. Other than that I am not sure what you want or are trying to say with this tantrum we want it now style post. The fans want the game to launch now but they know the reallity of the situation, when there done there done and when they launch they launch and no ammount of demanding or QQ will change when and how they do things.
My view on the beta.
Alpha : is general a closed door friends and family style thing. Devs and some friends and family test it out.
Closed Beta: Here is where you either let select people play the game outside of the Devs and there friends and family OR you hire proffessional testers to do it. I preffer the proffessional testers myself considering they are more inclined to uphold the NDA and do there job.
Open Beta: This is where you let lots of outsiders play to stress test ect and give a sort of preview as well as cacth any bugs missed by the above.
Considering they have had Proffessional Play Testers for awhile I for one am not under the impression we are waiting for clossed beta as some seem to think. What I am expecting is open beta because from what I have seen and read CLOSED BETA has already been underway for some time now.
You act like I dont have a say in any of their operations. As a potential costumer and a guy who has followed and played almost every major MMO to date they would do better if they involved us more. This game right now is pretty much under the radar for most people. They need to step it up and give us some better dates and more information. They should at least be able to tell with some accuracy if they can still make the date and confirm it.
Personally I think its a long shot.

EDIT: I didnt say i want the game released now I want it released when its finished but since they gave a date of 2008 and its now only a few months away we should get an update. I understand they arent taking preorders and giving a trial also but that is how long away? We should get an idea or some more updates 2-3 times a week.

Fully agree. I went over to the official site and saw that they make one news post per month or so
And the Hype this game is having right now is remarkable! Over all the years I've been engaged in online games this takes the point. I think more news is needed to try and kill off much of the unwanted hype.
Can you believe some people even say that it's a good thing they don't get so much news? That the devs are not "spoiling" them? I mean, it's really entertaining reading fanboy posts like that

I know this but when? Im also talking about updates in general. Their website has had the same FAQs posted since I first read them like 4 years ago. A few videos are nice but not enough imo.
unless i've given them money i can't see how my opinion matters relative to their product. even then it's negotiable whether my opinion matters.
being impatient for a game that incorporates everything darkfall is promising is certainly understandable. but i'd advise you to chill. set you sites low, have fun distracting yourself with other things and be pleasantly surprised when/if the game ever emerges onto the market.
edit: my point really is that you may want to consider that the game may never be released. it imo is a distinct possibility
Exactly it only shows me that they arent putting an effort into it. If they are confident in their own game they should prove it and come out with some more videos with a developer going over different systems already in and working. I dont want another MMO to come out and found out I have only wasted my time.

Don't know, not really all that worried about it myself. I am excited about the game because it seems like it will be fun. But it being just a game lack of news about it isn't exactly life shattering. Athens Digital week ended not that many days ago. You were flooded with a bunch of news the the 17th and 18th. Beta will end the beggining of December, launch shortly after. There was a new video for you to view the 17th or whenever Shaar posted it. So..... Being that its only been 6 Days and a Major event they sponserd has ended 4 days ago..... your telling me that we should all be outraged that we got no update and that we should demand one?
And you couldn't see the QQ reply comming? lol
Yea exactly. Especially this game since it's been SO SO SO SOO many years in development and so many have looked forward to it for an eternity and yet all we really have are quite short gameplay vids I can count on one hand (Note: Not really one GOOD gameplay video either, only offscreen material and cinematic-style material which isn't good for much).
They could do like they did with Warhammer Online, those instructional podcast vids. That'd be awesome and it would make people argue on forums with more FACTS than PREDICTIONS and ASSUMPTIONS which I hate.

Hey I have no problem distracting myself with other things but its been 4-5 years and the website is generally the same as far as information goes. I agree the game may not even come out but at this stage shouldnt they know that? It would be better if they came out now and said "this is what we have" I think they owe it to alot of people. Like I said a developer video of them going over the different systems in the game would be perfect and would not take up much time.

You mean something like that? Or you mean that one wasn't enough and they should do another one 6 days after the one they just did?

That was not a good enough video. It was also horrible quality with some guy just filming it in the back. They should make short videos of the differnet aspects of the game (crafting, zones, pvp, etc.) and go over them in detail. Release one a week and you got happy customers. It takes only a few hours out of the week.
Patience... a minor form of despair, disguised as a virtue.
I know it seems sometimes difficult to wait patiently on something that you really want, right at the exact moment. But with all due respect, I am sure they have good reasons why it has taken them so long to develop Darkfall, as I am sure we will find out once we enter the vast world of Agon. Personally, I rather them take their time with the process and get it right instead of rushing everything, because of the impatient consumer demand, and making major mistakes. Something tells me Aventurine knows what they are doing and are playing it safe.

So..... paying to find out that things promoted for a MMO aren't even in it (which almost always happens now days which of course they show are in before you buy oO) vs trusting a company thats going to let you find out for free. I can't find any comfort in them saying you get to try it for free. Sure, they might actually do that and take no pre-orders or anything, but so far everything is just words.
As I see it, some people have already paid lots for this game. With their TIME and comittment. Making fansites, running their own forums and all that.

So...... are you playing AoC? It showed working Siege's in it's movies before launch, it also has DX10 right on the box OO! lol The point is they have shown many features that are in and working lol. You can kill players, this was shown in the Vids. They were cenematics they were in game footage. War used Cinematics to promote there game. Sadly those Cinematics actually looked alot better than the game. There is no truth in advertising. The commercials lie as much as they can get away with. Its things like that , that let William Shatner play WoW for 10 minutes then turn around and say he plays WoW. If your not content just waiting then don't wait. Find something else to do and come back and check in a few months.

Yet they didnt care enough to put anything about it on the website. Awesome we got information at one of the ATHENS conventions that only happens every once in a long while. Now are you saying they cant spare a few hours a week to give some information to their customers? Ur defending the company like ur family. We dont owe them anything. They owe us as the fans. If they cant spare a guy for a few hours every week then they dont have the funding or man power to make an MMO that will be able to compete. Unless they are shooting for 200k subscribers(which wouldnt be enough to cover the millions they have spent) they better kick it up a notch.

Actually I am not really defending them at all let alone like family. I was bored and am merely having fun poking holes in your logic lol. Though it has become far to easy so even this has begun to bore me. The point is......
1) You asked for a free trial........ There giving one lol so be patient
2) You want a video with a Dev explaning things about the game ...... They gave you one lol
3) you want an update every two weeks........... it was 6 days ago since the last update and it was a doozy lol so that gives them a around another week lol
4) You complained they couldn't do closed beta, open beta and launch in the little time left........ closed beta has been going on for awhile lol like a year+ lol, Proffessional Testers are hired for closed beta's not Alpha's atleast this has been my experience when I was paid to do closed beta's lol.
It was fun but now I'm done lol. Wait or don't wait it isn't any skin off my teeth lol, the companies going to do what it's going to do regardless of you so either live with it or move on, no point in getting all bent out of shape over a Video Game lol. Not like it's a kindney your needing that your waiting for an update on oO lol.

Poking holes in his logics? His point made perfect sence. Those "gameplay" vids WERE very shallow to say at best. The site does not have much information or anything and they do not give the impression they spend their time with the community explaining what they have and don't have so far.
And what the hell is a "professional beta tester" anyway? Most weird thing I've ever heard :P Is that like, the koreans that Blizzard gathered to play StarCraft 2? And there has been no leaks whatsoever about the beta... ALL games has that no matter what! Why not Darkfall? Odd.
And a side note, wth does QQ mean? It's annoying cus I see it everywhere but nobody ever explain what it stands for
