Yes you are probably right that there has to be some kind of grind in Darkfall for skills or for mats to build, it might be even be quite a severe grind if you are building a guild city or something.

Anyway I'm off to bed, but if you feel like a change of mmorpg style then I urge to give DF a try.  Especially if they do go with the free trial of some sort as they stated that they would like to, although we shall have to see is this actually happens.

Maybe it will suck or maybe it will be a very good game or maybe you will just hate it because of the ruleset, but definately worth keeping an on imo.

BTW good have proper conversaton on DF board with a non fan rather than just mindless trolling.

I agree Blodpls. I am "one of those SWG" people to tell the truth. I played the heck out of that game back in it's original shape despite it's HUGE gamebreaking flaws. I enjoyed it because it was original and the perfect social/sandbox game for my taste at that time. Nothing has even came close to resemble that feeling to this date. I will definitly try any free material that might come out and observe any reviews and other content.

Have a good night mate, it was nice chatting with you!

You get a GODDAMN free trial what more do you want? they don't have pre-orders, so it is not important if you trust them or not just wait for the trial, TRY the game and buy it if you liked it, it just sounds stupid that you want more info, it's like:OMG i don't trust them i won't get the trial because i just don't trust them.

You are just being a troll and a bad one...now shoo!!!!

Thats the reason many aren't worried about info at this time. If it comes great if not meh. With a free trial we can see if we actually like it for ourselve's before buying it. When it launches the info will come and we can go from there. So it's not really as needed as with other games because instead of that info influencing you spending 50-60 bucks to try it, the info is just to give you a basic idea as of what it is then they want the game to speak for itself through a free trial.

Also gotta remember the more info they throw out there the more info is available for competitors. WoW decided to snag a few things from War for it's new expantion lol. It's not like they waited for War to launch before they snagged those ideas either lol. War announced what it was going to be, players said oh kewl, Blizzard said "Money Money MON-EY".

Even if they did show all the features they have announced that made it into the game you still wouldn't know em all anyways lol Tasos has said several times they have some surprises as well. So all in all were gonna have to wait and see for ourselve's more than likely.

Might be tough for some but chalk it up to, it doesn't really matter how much info they give at this point because with a free trial more than likely your going to try it regardless. People like free stuff by nature lol.

What ideas could possibly Darkfall have that others could... snatch. I mean, it's not like the whole "do whatever you want" theme hasn't been adressed before.

And don't forget many/most others use free trials aswell. Also theres buddy keys. That's how MMORPG's are expected to roll since they are quite big investments.

Ofc they will have surprises, but right now EVERYTHING will be a surprise lol. Which is kinda eerie.

I'm also all up for free stuff, but I would really like to know if it's worth the wait. So that I don't get a piece of coal in my christmas sock and not some fancy toy!

I don't know about most do the free trial. From my experience 90% of the MMO's won't have a free trial at launch without a chunk of change first. Normaly it's ok you just spent 50-60 bucks so what were gonna do is give you 1 month free! lol yay great I hated the game but atleast I saved 15 bucks by wasting 60 lol. buddy keys are sometimes allowed. But there not always usable around launch.

And I hear ya the xmas thing lol.

So many fanboys trolling this thread...

The darkfall devs have made it a habit to lie, and decieve the fans for years now. I wouldn't bet on that free trial. You will be lucky if they have a "semi-open" beta before asking you to fork over some cash.

You act like I dont have a say in any of their operations. As a potential costumer and a guy who has followed and played almost every major MMO to date they would do better if they involved us more. This game right now is pretty much under the radar for most people. They need to step it up and give us some better dates and more information. They should at least be able to tell with some accuracy if they can still make the date and confirm it.

Personally I think its a long shot.

Look there is not much to say.

Aventurine don't talk much, that's why this game has been branded vaporware for so many years.

Then an ingame video becomes available and all of a sudden the game exist.

Aventurine works this way, it doesn't say anything for a long time,  then all of a sudden makes stuff available without too much hype either.

When Tasos announced the video he wrote a couple of sentences in the official forums, nothing else..........

The darkfall fanboys spread the voice, if it was for Aventurine very few people would have known.

So that's the way they work.

I don't think it is a good thing, but their team is really small and I can understand why they don't spend too much time in PR.

It isn't what a normal developer does, but doesn't mean is not going to work.

Aventurine said they gonna have a short beta then release the game by 2008.

I don't believe it too, but wait at least til 2009 before starting criticising them.

They said they would release the game by 2008, and 2008 is not yet gone, so be patient and wait.

If they do they do. Oddly enough it wouldn't make em worse than the rest of the industry it would make them the same as the rest of the industry lol.

You don`t have a say so get of your high horse and realise this fact. Once you start paying for the game then pou can shout your month off. I notice you have not gone to the DF forums to shout your month off because you know what would happen.

I do not have some kind of ego if thats what your trying to say. We ALL have a say in the way they treat their customers. We are all potential customers and have all most likely invested some time into the game. I am not "shouting my mouth off" I am asking for more involvement on their part. For the 4 years ive watched the game the only real information we saw was a week ago.

Ive seen a ton of people on here that dont even think the game is coming out! That is a very very bad sign that they will lose a ton of customers straight from the beginning. Once an MMO has a bad start it wont pick up momentum and will only lose subscribers. They would benefit from listening to a SIMPLE suggestion that would take very little time.

You guys are no longer talking about the lack of information so im not gonna even respond to any more of these posts after this one.

This has nothing to do with a contract. Of course I cant make them do anything but if you asked them or anyone else who has made an MMO that you need to get your potential customers confident in your game. The first week is the most important time for every MMO. Right now half the people that followed this MMO still dont think it will come out. (im right in the middle) We know the game isnt coming out this year they should post something about it and give us some answers.

Every person that throws out the word "trolling" only makes themselves look like a jackass.

I don't agree with your statement about what a bad start is.

To me a bad start would be widely advertising your game and having large box sales on release only to have 75% of your customers cancel after the first couple of months because they haven't got what they were sold.

This creates a lot of bad of feeling amoungst the gaming public and generates large amounts of negative publicity making the general subscription trend go down.

You don't see people ranting on forums about EVE being mis-sold or sucking because people aren't being led on, anyone who has bought it knows exactly what there are going to get.  Hopefully it will be the same for DF, start off small and attract people because they like the game not the advertising.

Most of the mmorpg's that you are using as a reference for what kind of information should be released are failures or have attracted a lot negative publicity after release.

What people complaining really want, as I've said numerous times, is free entertainment in the form of video's ect so they can sit at home and fantasise about playing it, what other reason do you have for requiring this information before release?  Nobody has ever given me a proper answer to this question.

I actually havent refrenced any games yet some others have. I agree AoC had a bad release which is why they lost their customers and once that happens you cant recover. Its the momentum that gave WoW so many subscribers which is why im saying the first few weeks are the most important. First impressings are HUGE for MMOs.

AoC had one thing right though. They had the customers. They just released the game to early before they fixed all the bugs and balancing.

You have to have the customers from the start like AoC and actually deliver the game (unlike AoC). Right now they wont get to many people. The open beta may cause some hype if its really good but it will be to late to spread the word.

The only thing I think they should do is give some much needed information on the game. If they made a post of them going through each feature in the FAQs and explain if its still in and how exactly it works then I would be happy. Its been the same for 4 years.

What you say AoC did right was one of there downfalls actually. AoC hyped the game up instead of letting it speak for itself. People went in with high expatations and got let down big time. Had they let the game speak for itself they could have started off with a decent size community and build from that like EvE has.

If AoC hadn't done what you claim they did right they would not be as ill thought of by the majority as it is now.

Edited to add and example: They attempted to pass of PvP in AoC as meaningful PvP. PvP without reward or consequence is not meaningful PvP. Had they let the PvP aspect speak for itself it would have been much better off.

You can go through the features yourself during the free trial, if they have one, which is much better than video walkthrough.  You don't need to see this in advance.

If the game is good then people will buy it, look at Sins of the Solar empire, it wasn't advertised very much and was no1 in the sales charts for weeks because it was a good game.

Here's there their youtube channel.  Look how many video's they made, 1 lol.  Thats less than Darkfall.

Can you tell me why you need to know this information?

If it comes out, has a free trial and you like it will you still not buy it on principle because there was no walkthroughs months before release?

I think I have to add to this by saying that the Devs have also said they want Discovery to be a big part of the game as well. They don't want you to know what all skills there are or all of the spells either. Much of the game is going to be based on discovery which I have to say is one thing I find fun. EQ2 did this aspect really well as did UO. EQ2 was a bit better though because there are statistics that show world firsts. You find a certain item before anyone else you got credit for it. The point is still the discovery though. They want players to discover the world in some respects and I like that Idea. I do NOT want an abundance of info to be honest because I want to explore and find things out on my own. I am not generaly one that uses walk throughs because thats just not fun. To me it's borderline cheating in many respects.
