Its just cosmetic items, the OP overreacted... Gotta love the people who make something out of nothing... Also trying to start a conspiracy theory by the look of it as well...
Right, because once a company has this type of stuff in a game they could never ever possibly start selling other types of items or stop putting in the fun vainty items, quests and events that they do now. Nope, no chance of that ever happening.
All sarcasm aside, but your showing exactly the mentality that opens the door to this type of thing.
Tell me, what benefit is it to the subscriber base for this type of change? Blizzard typically puts these types of things in the game for free or part of an expansion. Where is the benefit to the customer?
Even i its only cosmetic stuff! they will put mounts in there aswwell, so when you see a cool mount, and it will be from a shop... i dont think it will bring joy in to your hearth. That wount do anything good for a game, if you whana cool mount, go to ZG and raid boss for it...
Even if its cosmetic, you have to earn it in game, not working your ass off , and spend that cash on game items....
Blizzard, thats first time you really really dropped a huge lump o crap!
can that mount really be cool if it is from an item shop? It might look cool, but it won't be cool.
Again people miss the big picture by focusing on the whole "it doesn't affect me" mentality.
Many people enjoy doing those cosmetic things right now in game. They love chasing after titles, getting vanity pets, hunting after the rare pirate hat or whatever their fancy might be. Once a company starts charging real cash for those items instead of putting them in as game enhancers it changes the whole game. Blizzard would have to decide about content, for example do they make another Halloween style event for free or just put those items in the cash mall? Imagine if the broomstick, the headless horsemans flying mount and the pumpkin head helmets were instead sold for money instead of ingame acievements.
Once a cash mall goes into the game every single content reward or interesting vanity item first has to go through the design process which now starts out with the question: do we charge $ for this item or reward our players with something in game. The temptations are just to great as you can see how it affected SOE for a prime example. They used to be the MMO leaders and their CEO is completely power drunk on the real money transaction on top of subscription fee as a business model and thrusting money grabs on their subscriber base.
Can you honestly say Blizzard will NEVER do this? What games are left that might even pose a threat to WoWs subscriber base? Who is left to keep them honest by offering an attractive alternative should Blizzard start to mistreat players or screw something up?
Anyone who thinks this type of thing will not affect them is mistaken. You may not see it directly or understand the things you might never get, because it was instead sold to you for cash instead of an in game achievement, but rest assured it has an impact.
The most important thing so far is no one has come up with a plausable reason of how this will be good for the current subsribers. Other than Blizzard making more money [or any other company that does it], where is the benefit to the player base? How does anyone come out ahead with this type of change?
All that I see is a company putting a price tag on something they were already giving me for free. It doesn't matter if it affects me directly, because it opens the door to things that will.
heh these trolls remind me of Obama supporters who know nothing about the candidate and just blindlessly support whatever Obama/OP says. Ignorance must truly be bliss
Wow, way to associate a discussion related to a video game to your political leanings. I guess you would know about ignorance... You're as much of a troll as the ones you're bashing, perhaps even more so for going so far off topic.
Far as I'm concerned, if people are dumb enough to throw more money at a game just so they can have some cosmetic changes, let 'em at it. You know what they say about a fool and his money...
