That's what I'm getting from 90% of this board. If you don't believe the O' Holy word that is Tasos.. then you are troll? I'm pointing this things out and will inevitably be labeled a troll...
Let's look at some facts:
Aventurine - is a company with no prior history to Darkfall (Verdant for EQ, AC for turbine), and on top of that, had to buy the rights or game design from RazorWax (please correct this statement)
Darkfall has little to no advertising. They're trying to sell their game via WoM (Word of mouth). Games that settled at lower than the original number (Aka Started out High.. and are now riding the coat tails) had a crap ton of avertising. There were banners, magazine spreads.. Hands on.. First looks.. Anything to get PICTURES in front of people. and with the WoM.. Sadly, there appears to be two types of people. The Fanboi or the troll. The Fanboi is blind to any non-pro Darkfall thread, the the troll is the opposite. The Fanboi will talk the game up and dismiss any prior history being brought up as an attempt to troll..
No Actual release date - We are told time and again that "Landscape" permitting, there will be a release this year. Well.. This is the year to do it. Two, failed PvP games does one of two things.. ripens up the market making those who played the failed games try something else, or, scares those people away. The fact that they are egging us on with Dates.. What does Darkfall has to lose by releasing? We've been told that the game is "feature" complete, but without a big studio backing (and forcing an early release), where's the pressure. It reminds me of the story of the boy who kept wishing for more wishes. He died before he ever got to use any of them.
Will Darkfall be the game, where the devs keep adding more and more stuff, then tweaking it, and adding more stuff prosponing the release?

I think people are bitter because it took so many years..Can you blame them? But since this game took x-amount of years,this game should be extremely polished.Would you not agree? If not why not? Everything was done behind closed doors.The game had Professional tester and what not; So there shouldn't be any excuse as to why this game should fail..

I pretty much agree with everything you have said.
I've always been one of the naysayers, so to speak, but It appears like Darkfall will finally be coming out after all these years, but when is still anyone's guess. Still have my doubts though.
Here's what I believe will happen.
Darkfall will not release by end of 2008. The fans will immediately begin the mantra of "1st Quarter 2009!", and we will still be having the same argument that has been going on for many years. There will be a ton of excuses thrown at us, and most fanbois will hammer us with... "It will take as long as it takes to get the game PERFECT!"
AND...
"Have patience!"
I also don't think the open beta will come off this year either. I know the 10th of Novemeber has been eluded to, but somehow I don't believe they will pull that off. Remember when the "main" video was released in August? At that time the fans were POSITIVE that open beta would begin in early October. That didn't happen either.
However... I'm not a troll. I believe the game will eventually release this time. None of this would make any sense to me otherwise. I mean, if it never releases, how on earth could you explain the last 8 years away? So. I think it will. But when and in what shape? That's the question.
You are seeing things in two extremes.
Succeed or Fail.
I don't think it will do either. It will hover at the point that the game will be profitable, but it won't blow away any prior numbers.
but, in the fanbois eyes, the game is already a success. it already has 300k+ subs.
In the trolls eyes, it has failed. Maybe I'm blinded here, but I think see how it can fail if the game comes out. I mean, the fact that it will be released and have a chance to succeed is what I want.

You may not realize it, but you are kind of proving your point (which i agree with btw) but for the other side.
By you saying "the o'holy word that is tasos" you, and others, are saying that "if you arent against DF, then you are a cult member".
I agree with you that some people get labeled as trolls because they are skeptical about the game. While there are many actual trolls here, we shouldnt label everyone as one.
But in your first line you belittle the game and imply that those of us that actually decide to trust a developer that owes us nothing at this point are cult members. Well you didnt actually say cult member, but it is a common attack on this forum and the religious implication of "O'Holy Tasos" is pretty much in line with it.
This forum will NEVER be sane. Even after a release that is negative or omg amazing...it will never end.

I think Darkfall will release but if it will release this year or next year i have no clue. Only reason i can see this game not releasing is they pulled a mighty good prank on ppl. That being said i think if it does release, the features alone could prollbly draw the ppl in. For a game like this,with all its promises,i wouldnt even care if the Graphics were as bad as Halo3 Graphics.

This thread makes no sense at all. There is not one real argument being made. I think that qualifies as trolling. You are making some pseudo-argument for why Darkfall is bad instead of giving real reasons why the game won't be good.
Example:
This game will suck because it has open PvP! I want to be able to be safe sometimes!
Instead of making some real argument, you come here and try to claim everyone who doesn't agree with you is in some sort of cult? Also, your arguments about the game are that "it isn't out yet, therefore it isn't good". I really don't understand why you have made this post or hold the viewpoint you do. I also don't understand your arguments against Aventurine. We shouldn't place our faith in them because they are a new company? So should we place our faith in companies (SOE for example) that keep producing crap? Let's face it, the big companies involved with MMOs in the forseeable future are all making crappy games.
Hell, just reading the feature list on the Darkfall website is more fun than playing post-WoW MMOs.

Do you really not think that the skeptics aren't labeling the fans as "cult members" and "fanbois" just as quickly? Because it is pretty clear that they are. It goes both ways.

Dude.. where did I say Darkfall won't be good? Why are you reflecting your views on my post? never did I say dark fall won't be a good game..
Where did I use the word "Cult?".. Did you even read the original post?
I made the point that Aventurine has no past game history, just like AC or EQ didn't.

Naa, i will just wait and se if any good MMO besides DF is released soon. But there is a bigger chance DF is released before any other good MMO. And thats a sad thing.
i couldnt care either way, since i am neither for nor against darkfall, but the current "preview" of what the community is going to be like is what is going to keep me away.

Again the people who make up these forums + the official DF forums will be <5% of the community you will see in game. If that.
Majority of MMOers dont POST consistently on the game forums.
The VAST majority of MMOers dont POST on the game forums before the game is released.
So thinking a community for a game is based off the diehards on the official forums...is pretty silly if you ask me.

Is it just me or does this whole darkfall thing feel like a rerun of the fiasco that was vanguard?
I'm not committing myself to this or any other game until I've played it myself no matter how many run around saying this is going to be awesome but I'm sure the diehard darkfallers are all very happy in there +3 blinkers of blind faith.
You know how you can make me happy...kkthxbye...Unfortunately other not follow your good example and continue to troll instead of leave this board and this game to people who like the game and the community

Isnt Vanguard a "class/level based quest driven theme park style" MMO?
So what would thay ever have in common? There were nothing in the Vanguard featurelist that could get me exited (in any way). But DF is my wildest MMO dream come true.

The point is makingg is the darkfall and VG are both backed by HUGE promises of what a great game they are. And, up until release, everyone thought VG would be this huge awesome game with all these features and great story.. but it turned out.. .. not so awesome. The 'Vision" was missing.

OK, I guess I misunderstood you. I apologize for that, but most of my post is still relevant. The only part that is wrong is where I claimed you were making an argument for why it is bad.
Why did you make this post though? I don't think you are stupid enough to just come here and say "Aventurine is a new compnay, the game isn't out yet, etc."....so I assume you have some sort of point, unless you were (as I said in my post) trolling.

Thankyou Random, just to add Vanguard was originally coined to be THE next big sand box game but failed miserably ..now its said it's very like everquest 2. As with Darkfall the so called fans ( how can you be a fan of something that isnt even released? ) defended it all the way to release but after they had sampled the retail version they turned from being worshipers of the vanguard cause to feeling very let down by Sigil. The same can also be said for numerous other mmo's but Vanguard was the one that really stuck out in my memory, I hope history doesn't repeat itself but it has a nasty habit of doing so.

This game will bring some of the nastiest people in the MMO community to it.
Full loot pvp? Gankers paradise, Go take a look at shadowbane, it has some of the most infamous people the MMORPG genre has to offer.
Youll have griefers, gankers, chest beating smack talkers etc. This wont be a pretty little teddy bear picnic, it will be filled with hate from day one, Im already looking forward to some of the hate tells Im probably going to get for repeatedly ganking people, taking screen shots, and having a jolly old laugh at the expense of people who dont know what theyre getting into. Thats why I still play Shadowbane, nothing is more fun than making people QQ and having it be built into the way the game plays.
Trust me when I say that a lot of the nastiest MMO players in existence will be leaving Shadowbane to play Darkfall, your forums will be filled with tears, and people will eat it up.
In fact, Ill even throw a few phrases out there that you will likely hear, after you kill someone
