Whereas, if you wanted pure gameplay footage of WoW, it'd be... pummeling a monster. Thats it.

Not to be nitpicky...but where the heck did you see that in the trailer? I saw a 2 second flash of a crafting interface...that was all.

In reality, all you saw in the video was people beating on each other. Yes, you saw collission detection (whoohoo), I did NOT see a massive world though. It looked big, but that doesn't tell you anything anything. Yes, mounted combat (looked great), yes, aiming your attacks (still think Latency will be a big issue for this game), manipulating physics???? Where did someone -manipulate- physics?

You had a few seconds PvE footage and yes, a lot of naval battles.

It never ceases to amaze me how DF Fanbois can make so much more out of this trailer than what it was. And -why- do they do that. Can't you guys just be happy that the trailer was delievered and focus on the things that were actually shown instead of making things up?

We already know virtually every item in the game is craftable, and a strong crafting econamy has been encouraged.

As for physics, you saw many people getting knocked back, cavalry knockbacks, and two casters combining their spells to help a friendly archer get into a tree.

We know that because they -say- it, not because we -saw- it. There is a huge difference because of the extensive, non-combat-features that DF is supposed to feature we haven't seen much of in the videos.

We've seen some things and some looked good, others not so much (in my eyes). But to say we've seen more than we have just doesn't make sense, nor does it help you supporters in any way.

I'm not the average rabid fanboy, I've been here for a long time. Out of all the outlandish features Darkfall claims, having most in game items craftable isn't a very far fetched one, so I don't see why you're being so skeptical about it.

Im skeptical because if this game is as revolutionary as they claim  it is, it would be everywhere, it would be pasted all over gaming websites magazines, G4, everywhere. Any other game wouldnt be hiding its light so to say. Frankly I dont get why theyd be so secretive, its counterproductive to selling a product.

So were left with one other viable reason, maybe theyre promising more than they can deliver.

I don't mean skeptical of the game, I meant skeptical of the crafting I mentioned. Being skeptical of a game is nothing bad, but I don't see anything outlandish about the crafting they promised.

As for why this game isn't everywhere, and hiding information...they aren't. They simply aren't spending millions of dollars throwing their product everywhere. And despite that, its still got 200k followers registered on the forums. They are an indie company, and as they've said over and over, they will let the game speak for itself. If its crap, well, they never overadvertised it, like Age of Conan did, if its amazing, well then that just means they are smart. Most of this "revolutionary" hype has come from the fans, not the company. They are just out to make their dream game, and not cater to the WoW fanbase. (IE, people who don't play MMOs)

And it has been in quite a bit of places, last month there were 3-4 magazine articles, it was in the newspaper, and it was on TV twice.

I cant imagine it costs much to show it to gaming magazines, or let some other sources have a bit of hands on time. In fact Im pretty sure if it is all they say it would be, they wouldnt be paying a cent for the coverage. So again, I dont feel that the money issue is an issue at all. Theres got to be some other reason.

They got it on TV in Greece, did they pay for that? If so, it invalidates the argumen, if not, well then why havent we seen it on TV elsewhere?

Its not just a money issue, its also manpower. From what I've heard from the people that visited this summer, they are on a VERY tight schedule,  this is crunch time. Bug crushing, setting up servers, finalizing distribution, publishers, publicity, running that Athens convention. They had to turn 1 or 2 people away from visiting them this summer because they had magazine people coming in the same day and they just didn't have the time.

You have to realize this is an indy company, like Mythic was with Dark Age of Camelot. Little was heard about that game, but it became a huge hit. It seems the MORE advertising a game has, usually the worse it is.

When I look at a gameplay trailer the only thing I look for is gameplay aspects that I then analyze the practicality of. Age of Conan's gameplay looked awkward when I saw it because I very much could tell it was a hitrate button masher that takes place on a barely interactive field (and, after playing it, this was confirmed). Darkfall's gameplay looked amazing because in the naval battle there were some hundreds of cannonballs flying back and forth and I knew each one of those was a physical projectile. Darkfall's gameplay looked amazing because I could see that the practical application of the battle system was much more fluid and powerful than a much better looking game.

I am going to draw flames by saying this, but if you think Darkfall's gameplay trailer makes it look ugly your eye is not trained for picking useful gameplay attributes out of a video.

Also, from what I've heard and read there is virtually no advertising budgeting at all for Darkfall. Absolutely miniscule amounts here. Buying adspace anywhere notable is expensive not because the adspace is valuable but because it is a rare and competed-for commodity. Darkfall probably doesn't have magazine spreads because Warhammer or Age of Conan just up and offered more money for them, as an example.

Bah crunch time? that didn't stop them from taking a nice long vacation before even getting the promised Trailer released in August. Please don't feed us that line when it doesn't fit with the facts of their actions.
