I started out my mmorpg career in EQ in which I have a 65 druid, I also have a level 78 Troubadour in EQ 2 on Butcherblock server named Chillz, and I am interested in starting up again in an mmorpg but am concerned whether or not this game is still active and popular. I enjoy grouping much more than soloing so if my only option is to solo (or wait hours for a group) then I will probably look for another game and would like any advice you may have....

If you have a level78 then you shouldn't have much trouble to find people at all.
At least on my EU server Splitpaw it's very much alive.

Mistmoore server is very much alive and my guild Slege is full and more active them my WoW guild Reliques both great guilds. I never find it hard to find groups. Slege hit level 80 guild and just got it's large guild hall and it has been really fun.
well unless you plan to raid every day theres no point in playing this game since everyone who raids get mythical wepons while your stuck with your crappy fable quest witch i think my self ruined the game even tho i raid my self and have a myth weapon its boring i liked getting new weapons so on but now everyone is running around with teh same gear blabla doing normal instnaces are pointless etc one of the reasons i quit a week ago

I like to group allot so I play on Antonia Bayle server because of the really high population and almost never have a problem getting groups or finding someone to go do stuff with.
I have been playing on and off since release and they keep adding more and more to it. So as far as content goes, There's more than any game I've played.. AND they are adding an expansion today!
They also recently added dual core support, which made an incredible difference for me and my quad core, in game voice chat, guild halls, more bells, whistles, trumpets, firetrucks, giant lizards, monkeys!!
Umm.... okay maybe not firetrucks but there's allot of content.
Eq2 offers so much more then gear. If that is what you want from a game then WoW would probably be more your style. I have mostly fabled gear with a few mythic items. I have good gear but far from the top stuff. However I do not feel I miss anything. There are so many more ways to enjoy the game then gear hording. I spend a lot of time just exploring the huge world and collecting shinies for collection items. I have maxed all my factions solo, so I can buy the cool faction items for my many houses and mansions in game. I have spent the last 4 days decorating our huge guild hall. The torture chamber is awesome. EQ2 is way more then just collecting top gear. You seem to have missed 80% of the experience that EQ2 offers.

I wouldn't say the game is dead, so much as the game is simply moving into another phase of its life. After 3 and a half years of playing EQ2 exclusively since launch day, I had had enough and realized it was time to move on. Having said that, as others here have observed, there is a lot more to EQ2 than just one aspect like gear or combat. I would recommend it to any individual or group interested in a good storyline and a lot of outstanding group play. Anyway, just my two coppers.
No its not dead,but i just cant see where new blood will come from for all of ROKs faults it did bring alot of new players to the table the fact they didnt stay is a sad one but the game will move along in its own space now.
For me TSO was frankly the last straw the devs constant lurching between playstyles finnaly has me beat and i've cancelled my sub (6 more days to go),i'll possibly go back when the next expansion comes along (or they nerf the dungoens so duo's/trios can do them) whichever comes first

when i first kicked off in EQ2 nearly 4 years ago it was as we all know a group only game (more or less) but over time it evolved into the solo friendly game it was till yesterday (history lesson over::)
Over my none stop play time in game my playstyle has changed from grouper to solo/duo/trio'er mainly becuase of the lack of people but mainly becuase of my limited time,i play with my family the 4 of us though do have mad schedules and we can only get together once or at most twice a week,even thats not guaranteed sadly.
So after a couple of weeks of beta we asked ourselves is this expansion worth it? and we all came to the same conclusion,the answer was no,not when it'll be bundled with next years expansion (and most likely given away when,not if,they run the living legacy promo next year),it came down to cost v content for us..ok its not expansive but like anything in this world i like to get value for money from my purchases and this expansion doesnt offer it for me or my family,not when in truth by EQ2s recent standards its only a very small expansion (harking back to the bad old days of the first 2 xpacs,a trend i hope doesnt continue).
Once the newness of this expansion has worn off i fear it will have a bad effect on the game,people unable to get groups etc so almost certainly the devs will nerf the dungeons to accomodate this.
Honestly you'd have thought the devs would have learned thier lessons after the ROK expansion,dont cater to one specfic play group,cater to everybody where its possible,but no they've blundered through and come up with this one,the mind boggles.
I can remember a post on here from Nadia last year,she said "time will look kindly on ROK" and you know i think she's got a point,all that was needed with that one was to make grouping and option to level and not force people to solo to 80,a bit of tweaking here and there (and rid it of the endless faction quests) and it would have been a lot better for it and maybe we would have gotten this time around something a bit more than TSO.
I still think EQ2 is the best MMO out there (despite the devs attempts to cripple it but forever changing its course) but for now for me at least its time to leave the game and have a break from it.

No. And I'm getting sick to death of people constantly non-stop making that claim when they don't even play the game.
The game has been dead for a while now. Don't waste your time or money.

One of my guild members designed an Arena so we could have dueling matches at our guildhall. it was very well done in my opinion.

yeah because if it doesnt have 11 million subscribers its a failed game right? sorry but most games can turn a profit if they have around 200-300k subscribers.

Ive tried second chance, during that free month at sumer, notin changed... dead game, with dead people.
I like WAR called as WOW 2.0
... i think, ill do, what 30% of people did after first month, ill leave this FAIL too.

Just because it's your opinion doesn't make it true. Why not offer some valid reasons on why you think the game is dead other than that little gem of wisdom "dead game, with dead people."
To the OP, I wouldn't say the game is dead at all. Every time I log on to my server there are people around. Sometimes it depends on the time of day you log on (it gets busier after people start getting home from their jobs) so evenings tend to be better for grouping, and then of course weekends.
ive told, its only mine opinion.
When ill compare preRoK EQ2 and afterRoK EQ2, guilds, ive been in and 1,5 year old friend list ive filled with names, etc.. game is dead, coz theres maybe 80% my friends, which left game.
They all really left game since november 2007 to february 2008, whats time when was RoK launched.
When friends, which played since beta, or friends, older then 2 years in game arent there... its my reasons, why im callin this game dead. Im not interested to Rok raids egoists....

*rolls eyes* Not again. Look... kid... the game is NOT dead. Spread lies all you want, it doesn't make them the truth. I'm sick of people like you coming in telling them as though they're some authority on the subject when they don't even play the bloody game or haven't played it in quite a while. Grow up and stop moaning about something you have no experience with.
And before you say "but I played just a couple months ago and its dead", guild halls were just introduced and you can zone right back to your guild hall (and out again) instead of walk through the cities (eliminating a significant amount of zoning thats a major problem causing lag and would mean a massive overhaul of the game to fix). You don't see many people in the cities because they don't have to go there so long as they belong to a guild.
As for the rest, the only reason you aren't seeing other people is because they are wide open spaces. I see people all the time because I don't ignore them just so I can run around saying "the game is dead", "the game is dead", like Chicken Little yelling "the sky is falling".

LD is verry alive and so is AB (main RP servers) i dont know where these ppl get the whole Game is gead information at but id fire your informents
