Sony Re-release the game....

Being a 3 time installed 3 times cancelled player I can honestly say, the only thing keeping me away from Vanguard right now is population issues....well that and chunk lines

But seriously, a re-release of this game with more content not content as in more land, but new abilities for classes *cough* *cough* ranger.....

New Gamers and even some older ones haven't even heard of Vanguard, so Sony I'm asking you, and you ask me everytime I cancel my Subscription, you guys ask me : Why did you Leave?

POPULATION, POPULATION, POPULATION

Release the game again, an ad campaign, i'v never seen Vanguard advertise on gaming sites outside of it's own, so lets go Sony, put Brad behind you, and lets do this......

Things must have changed a lot since I last played. My Ranger was one of the most diverse characters I adventured with, and I had a full line-up. What have they done to Rangers to marginalize their skills?

Any word on Zerks or Inquisitors? Has the idea been scrapped altogether? I'd think about coming back to roll up a Zerker I'd definitely take that free trial for a spin.

While I agree that re-releasing the game would be great I don't know if it would really help the amount of people playing it or not.

SOE has such a bad stigma about them now, most people won't even try it due to their involvement.

That might work. Off course the question is if SOE want to spend the money for it?

They could also merge the servers instead, not as good but at least the pop would feel better then.

  • LocklainLocklain Member Posts: 2,154

Its a catch22 SOE is not taking in enough money to feel they should put more developers on Vanguard but that is exactly what the game needs.  If they were able to crank out quality updates for the game I could see it becoming a pretty decent success.

Played my ranger about 10 min ago, played it 15 or so minutes, lvl20 last time I played it was maybe 2-5 months ago... So there may be more.

Now I was able to choose amongst 5/6 pets, eagle, panther and some others.

I was to choose beetween melee and ranger specialisation.

I was able to set up a campfire.

I got a few other quest at a specifik spot in Kojan, a short quest for the pet and specialisation and 3 others.

I'm so broke. I can't even pay attention.

When you say "choose between melee and ranged specialization", what does that mean, exactly? Do you gain specific abilities that adhere to the playstyle you choose, and lose the ones that don't? Rangers already had plenty of abilities to go both ranged and melee. Did they change this?

It is just a question how much soe is willing to invest into marketing.

Most potential gamers haven't even heard about SOE let alone what they have done to swg. Millions of players haven't even heard about mmorpg.com, don't read it, don't know a thing about NGE. Clueless as they are some even know that everquest was very successful before wow. Tell them that is SOE's game ...

As far as I know SOE has no single player games. No reputation from before. They need to invest in advertising. Every kid knows about Blizzard and Bioware. I bet Bioware's sw game won't be anything special. But people already talk about it. Not only online community.

i honestly think they wouldnt want to at this point.  the games been out for almost 2 years and pop isnt going up enough to do another release for this game.  people just need to hear about it from word of mouth.

  • BoreilBoreil Member UncommonPosts: 448

Yes they need to go take it down ( or leave the current build running while they make the new one), and tune it back to what it was marketed as,  make it more of a group based game with limited solo content like Eq, add WAY more raid content , and get rid of the sharding of apw and kill the isle of dawn , then re release it in much better shape than it was originally and they will come . Most people wont touch VG now days for 3 reasons , one of which will never change . 1 the game was overly buggy and unfinished at release and delivered barely half of what was promised , 2 very bad population issues ,  3 its Soe.  Re release it as it should have been originaly and  fixing 1,  that  in turn will fix 2 , but 3 .. well that will never change for some.

We have plenty of casual friendly mmorpgs , we could do with at least ONE new EQ.

yeah I agree, I still think Vanguard has nice potential. Sadly it released way too fast and buggy. I understand that now they have fixed mush of the problems but there are still things that could use some tuning and cleaning. if they rerelease I might become of of the people that would pick it up ( if it was tuned nicely and has a good population )

to be honest i m still miffed at vanguard for being released way too early and i stll feel a bit ripped off . if they made vanguard free with a micropayment model i might but only might give it a second try . why would anyone want to play this otherwise. theres no point re-releasing the game ,after all you cant polish a turd .

Haven't deeply checked what changes there are, but I guess both of us could do that ;)

(Only played a lvl20 ranger for what was it 10-15 minutes, about enough time to complete the given quests.)

Anyway I got a ranged skill in a following quest right after I choosed the specialization, I don't know though what (if) I would have been given if I choosed melee.

And I don't know, I think one part of the changes when choosing to play melee or ranged some skills may be taken away. You could change specialization though for a cost. (I think it would be permament though.)

F2P would kill Vg even more and ruin it totally , and most F2P games cost more than a P2P games in the end if you actually want to hit the high and be on a even level with most players.

Why would anyone want to play VG ?

Because its a really good game now in most cases since they have put over a year into "fixing" it, but sadly for most its too little too late.

Also , you can polish a turd into a   masterpiece if you have the money , reasources and the actual WANT to do it , Soe only has the first 2.

Honestly I'm not sure why SoE buys and runs failing games.  I guess they can make a little money off them but it almost seems like a waste and what does it do to their reputation what little they have....

Vanguard is a huge deep game that could probably grow but it won't without sony trying to grow it.  But maybe SoE is smarter then me and Knows from experience that a game with a failed launch can't possibly really grow... Although I'd have to look at Eve as an example of where they are wrong...

SoE is just really confusing to me.  I mean look at their flagship game eq2?  They just did an expansion for it.  I live in the bay area and went in to preorder the expansion and the first thing I saw was a huge wow sign with a pile of boxes in front of it.  Wow posters all over.  So I go up and say I want to preorder eq2 and the guy is hmm eq2 let me look that up in the computer... Now this was 2 weeks before launch and he didn't even know about the game.  Then the day of the preorder I go in and they are like hmm we only got two copies...  I'm like wtf I preordered it for me and my wife.  Then they finally dug up two copies.

So it seems to me that SoE is just trying to fail or they have some serious management disconnects or just don't know how to sell a product....  I really think that the only answer is just to forget there are other games and play wow....

Anyway I think that vanguard is a great game that SoE is just sucking dry and trying to make sure doesn't compete with eq2.  I feel sorry for the VG devs as they seem like a good group of guys but seriously they are fighting a hopeless battle.

Umm no rangers are fine :P they don't need anymore crap.  Population ... just play on seradon or xeth the population is perfectly fine on those servers.

They just need a new expansion sometime this year or next year. maybe add AA points or something.  new hair styles, tails and player towns with shops. they should probably do away with the global telon exchange.

lastly just play the game or don't ...seems like you're looking for a reason to not to play the game. if you're looking to play on sartok dream on ... there's too many classes and abilities to tend with to keep it balanced.

i just came back to the game after a year or so. the game is 100% better than launch. i was amazed at how much better the game had gotten with the, falling through the earth bug and hitching. I cant be more satisfied with the game right now and i am having a great time. i play on the seradon server and dont have an issue grouping ever.

lmao okay dude, maybe if you guys would actually play the game past level 20 ... oh and upgrade 6 year old world of warcraft comp, you might enjoy this game.

this is the best mmo right now on the market as far as I'm concerned, maybe darkfall will be better but you guys won't like that game either because the "graphics"  and "character animations" in darkfall won't be up to your standard.

games I'd suggest for you guys... Korean grind fests or Wow

yeah i've been wanting to go back loved the classes in this game but last time i didn't see enough people on it. and i have an even better pc now tice as good as my old one even tho my old one played it very well after all the cleaning up soe did

Well they were supposed to relaunch in September of last year... Now, like most of their things, they seem content with adding pointless raids, stripping unique features, adding BOP and BOE, and making it overall easier.

Hardware wise, it fine, now they should be adding all the crap that they promised ages ago. I mean, GU6 didn't launch with 3/4 of the stuff it was supposed to. Where are the ships? Where is the Pantheon?

    1. Rangers changes?   All the rangers I've spoken too enjoy the changes they made.  See here for all the changes made.. http://vgplayers.station.sony.com/gameUpdatesDetails.vm?id=064&mode=PatchNotes

    2. Zerkers, Inquisitors?  There are no plans to implement them.

    3. Making VG easier?  This is absolutely not true.  The content is getting harder.  They have boosted 3 dot mobs to meet the original design intent of being duo or small group mobs.  At the high level, the griffin quest is challenging 6 man content.  These require gear and more importantly strategic execution,  Pantheon of the Ancient which is on test atm, is more challenging 6 man content which unlocks raid content.  There are even groans from the soloer since they can no longer solo 4/5 dot mobs.  Easier you say...I firmly disagree.

    4. Raid content?  Silius posted http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/game/147/view/forums/thread/212632  There is 6-man, 12-man and 24-man content for the lvl 50s.  There is even a reference to possibly increasing the level cap.  Yes, more is coming.

    5. Advertisement?  They will not be putting boxes in stores.  They made the Free 14 day Trial Island and placed online advertisement.  Currently their limited budget is heavily on development and secondary on marketing.

    6. Population?  The population is increasing.  Way back 5 months ago, the population status was LOW.  Now the population is Medium.  This speaks volumes.  The major difference with VG is the perception of population.  VG is a huge massively open world.  As one person put, the story of VG is you.  You are the main character setting out on your journey.  As any MMO, if you want a group you need to do one of 5 things.  Let people know your LFG, post in ooc, start a group, join a guild, meet and make friends.

    7. Where are we now and where are we going?  VG is now focusing on growing VG.  The primary focus is not fixing or polishing, it is expanding and growing VG.  More content to the max level group is welcome and coming is mass quantities.  Pantheon, Bridge of Destiny, Gazarumat, KDQ....all is focsuing on growing VG.

It should be a good Christmas.

SOE need to sell their games in other markets before they do anything else. Here in South Africa games such as World of Warcraft and Guild Wars are huge because they're sold here. In order to play Vanguard I had to go through a lengthy importing process instead of simply being able to pick up a copy at the mall like I can with almost every other MMO not published by SOE.

    (serious question):

Aren't you able to download the trial version of V:SoH in South Africa?

I only ask, as I downloaded the trial version to try it out, then upgraded to the full version by just downloading the rest of it. Didn't even have to pay for the game, just a months sub.

Perhaps SOE should advertise this little fact a bit better, might draw in even more people.

When I went from trial to full game, I fully expected to have to stump up a full game fee plus 1 months subscription, and kept expecting a pop up screen asking for more money. Never happened though!

    Currently playing: Vanguard: SOH

The problem is that, though we may have first world infrastructure and the sufficient capacity, up until last year only one telephone operator was allowed to operate in the country. Being a monopoly they imposed low speed, shaped lines with very strict data caps - because they could. What we pay for a 383Kbps line with a 2gb cap here, you can get an uncapped 20Mbps line in Ireland, for example. So it in fact is just cheaper to buy the game overseas and have it imported than download it. Thankfully prices are now dropping as a result of our second national operator and cellular networks deciding to build their own fixed line networks, but until data is at a reasonable price it's uneconomical to download large files.
