Has the release of the expansions to EQ2, LOTRO and WOW put the final nail in the coffin for this game?
I played VG for a month and the lag and low FPS killed it for me.....not to mention some of the bugs
Other game releases cause some temporary dips in the population. But overall, the population has been increasing steadily for quite some time now with a nice surge due to IoD.
The pop is this game is terrible. I have given up after 3 level 50 toons and playing since beta. Vanguard has no soul, this is what`s missing from this game. I bought the LOTRO with the new MOM and the buzz i am getting plus the overall feel of the world makes vanguard feel like a dead husk.
I have DX10 and everything whacked up to ultra max,and i mean everything, the world looks fantastic
EQ2 feels more alive than VG, Vanguard is static.
I am sorry to say it but VG is a dead world with no soul.
Who cares if Eve is a sand box and VG isn't? Who cares if VG is more of a sand box than Eve? Basically these descriptions of games vary immensely from person to person, its a matter of opinion. I personally think VG is more a Sandbox than a Roller coaster but the definition of Sandbox changes daily on this site... Who cares?
I guess the lesson here is that what a game is depends upon how you play it. Simple as that.
Some friends and I just re-subbed, however this time on Xeth due to the PVP server being a ghost town (sad panada) . So far we are having a blast, and the game actually feels immersive(sp).
I just resubbed to Vanguard yesterday. I have on an 20 bard as highest. So I decided to make a new toon and play on the starter island. I have to say, you get better stuff right off the bat on the island than i ever got before.
I played the beta and a little after release and I couldn't play this game. Literally. Now it feels just right so far. It is as polish as any other mmo i have played (not as polished as WoW though).
As to the post ealier about the real differences between Eve and Vanguard:
Wow. I haven't thought about it like that before. You guys just opened something up in my brian and changed the way I think about how sandbox games should be. Eve ISN'T any more open that Wow or Vanguard or whatever is. You can craft, get recipes, PvP etc.
I guess the question then is what features make a game so great as to call it a true Sandbox?
My dream mmo:
I appear (either in 1st person or 3rd) in some mountain area. There is no one around and all I have on my person is a loin cloth. My stanima starts to drop because I am hungry. As I wonder around the mountain lush with trees and brush, I come upon a stream. I take a drink of water from the stream and notice fish swimming about. I try grabbing at the fish on for the fish to swim through my fingers.
So I look around for something to help me catch the fish. I break off a tree branch from a near by tree. The end of the stick is in no condition to spear a fish, so I find some stones to break and shave the edge of the stick into a spear. It takes a while to get the fish but I catch it.
I can eat the fish raw, but I might get sick. (gonna long story short this up)
I make a fire, cook the fish and eat it causing my stanima (and maybe things like strength) return to normal depending on how hungry i was.
So this goes on and maybe i fashion things together and build a home and find other people along the way. we find more people and end up having a village. that grows. (history happens) you die when you die. Maybe even of old age. you can have kids or have some point were if you die and have a family you can start off as one of your kids. etc.

What server you on? Just curious because I re-subbed yesterday as well.

I started on seradon (sp?)
I haven't really played since I subbed because I got the all access and have been jumping around. I plan on playing a little tonight though. Right now I am surveying resources in SWG).
The game isn't dying... its DEAD. Stick a fork in it dead. The fat lady has sung. Ashes to ashes and dust to dust. Gone baby gone. Dead as a doornail. Ever since the SOE takeover its been on life support manned by a SKELETON crew.
Its a tragic shame really. This game should have been a flagship AAA title, and SOE/Sigil has let a fantastic oppurtunity slip through their fingers. The ORIGINAL concepts were great. Sadly it was brought to extinction by piss poor management and crappy execution. The problem wasn't the scope of the game and the promised features, it was the lack of them at launch combined with bugs, poor optimiziation, and poor performance. It was an unfinished game and still today remains and unfinished game not fit for a release. But that was like so 2 years ago.
Sadly this title never had a chance, it was dead out the door.

Yes, and Santa Clause exists too. That is as much fact as your post.
I only just recently started playing and not only have I joined a very friendly and helpful Guild (Lux Arcana on Halgar - shameless plug), but I've even managed to get together with a complete group (five plus me) of new players for an extra evening's play each week.
Some areas are quieter than other areas (we aren't talking WoW population here), but the small and growing community is most excellent.

I think you must have just come out of a coma and not realize that its almost 2009 now? Or maybe you just spout off nonsense hoping someone might believe you?
You obviously don't have any idea what is actually happening currently nor have you logged into the game to play and experience the growing surge of players.
I've been playing a little bit of SWG and Vanguard and I have to say; Seradon and Bria servers are pretty populated. I think Vanguard has a real chance of pulling an EvE. Starting off with a really small subscriber base then slowly but surley gaining ground over time.
I mean come on when you release a game as bad as vanguard was at launch then there is no where to go but up.

Dead? Perhaps you should download the trial and see how dead this game is, because I see VG gaining ground and rising out of its bad launch into a decent game.
Sure its not perfect, there are bugs but the game is moving forward.
Now playing: VG (after a long break from MMORPGS) Played for more than a month: Darkfall online, Vanguard SOH, Everquest, Horizons, WoW, SWG, Everquest II, Eve

Having played a few days now after having re-subbed (btw im not a fanboi) and yeah the game is kicking ass tbh. However, like it has been said already, the PVP server is less than stellar along with class balance. Apparently you can transfer chars from PVE servers --> PVP so perhaps we will see the server come alive again Until then Ill be on Xeth, and the population is quite good. Oh yea, the graphics on High+ are pretty good eye candy.
Just resubbed to Vanguard as well after playing warhammer for a few months i wasnt sure if I was playing WoW or a new game and it messed with my brain.
This game is far from dead, in fact it reminds me a lot of Ultima Online, without the brutal pvp of course.
That being said the PvP server is dead, but the 2 PvE servers are alive and kicking.
I am not a fanboy either, just decided to give it another shot after everything else on the market has let me down. lol
Vanguard is not dead. It's not a big game but it has a decent population, it gets frequent additions to content , and it gets polished all the time. It's also a SOE title. For all their screw ups , at least they don't kill games. Matrix is still going if I am not mistaken and it has a fraction of VG population.

For clarity sakes. Matrix Online has been developed by Monolith and publised by SEGA and Warner Entertainment.
SOE took over the failed game in a deal to get the DC comics IP from Warner Entertainment Group.
Vanguard has been developed by Sigil and was supposed to be published by Microsoft, but MS canned Sigil and then SOE jumped in saved Brad's ass. Litterly.
I too am thinking about resubbing to Vanguard. It has been a good year since I last played this game so it should be interesting to see how it has changed.

I'll have to try and get rod of my Eve / lotro obsession

How about, just download the 14 day free trial and take it for a run round the block?

The pop is this game is terrible. I have given up after 3 level 50 toons and playing since beta. Vanguard has no soul, this is what`s missing from this game. I bought the LOTRO with the new MOM and the buzz i am getting plus the overall feel of the world makes vanguard feel like a dead husk.
I have DX10 and everything whacked up to ultra max,and i mean everything, the world looks fantastic

If you want to try lotro give me a pm.
These^^^^ idiots are my favorite...
" I played the game for 2 years, got 3 chars to end game and did everything I could in the game. It sucks."
if it sucks so bad why did you play so long?
I just came back and I played for a year after launch and loved it all.
I am on sartok and I like how it is right now. low pop, but a big community.

This game isnt dying it is alive, it has been given a new lease of life.
The proof of the pudding is in the eating, go and own load the trial and see for your self.

NO need to take the advice of someone who has stopped playing the game God knows how long ago.
