Hi there. After SOE's complete hash of SWG I always wanted to experience a new Star Wars themed mmo from a different company. I must admit I was excited when i first heard the rumours surrounding this game. I'm quite grownded though and never get too hyped up over a new mmo. Im too cynical I know this game is still in its infancy and so many things could change from now until release but after reading the latest PC GAMER magazine I'm not sure this game is gonna be for me. Heres a quote from the preview of SWTOR. "They say it's possible to solo the whole game" Dont know about the rest of you but if thats the case I will not be playing this game
I hope they stick to it, nothing worse than grouping up with a bunch of 12 year olds or teenie boppers that act like infants.
Just curious, if you Hope it will be solo and you seem to have a negative view on grouping............ why would you play an MMORPG where you have to pay a monthly fee when you can play a single player game for a 1 time fee?
you are a moron. do you know why? because you play WoW, and you are complaining about some misinformation about this game's soloability. WoW is the bitch queen of solo games, why should you complain?
We do not have to constantly explain ourselves to players who are fanatical about grouping. There are multiple threads for every MMO game in existence that have all the reasons laid out and plain to see. The fact that you people can never understand nor sympathize with those reasons is not our problem. Bioware gets it and that is good enough for me. I applaud them for being reasonably intelligent developers and truly look forward to playing their game.
I like lots of solo content in an MMO, but more importantly is that it be quality content, not some afterthought thrown in with little to motivate the soloer and virtually no reward for the effort. Nor is it fair to make any play style feel like a second class citizen in a MMO world and yet that is exactly how soloers feel in many of these supposedly solo friendly games, even World of Warcraft.
With PvE raiding, it has never been a question of being "good enough". I play games to have fun, not to be a simpering toady sitting through hour after hour of mind numbing boredom and fawning over a guild master in the hopes that he will condescend to reward me with shiny bits of loot. But in games where those people get the highest progression, anyone who doesn't do that will just be a moving target for them and I'll be damned if I'm going to pay money for the privilege. - Neanderthal
I play MMORPG for the other players. I like it when I'm in a friendly guild. I like grouping (sometimes). And most importantly nothing can match a human opponent.
But there are times when I log on, none of my guildmates are the right level, my friends who play are in different time zones and there is nothing to do but solo.
This can happen at ANY moment and at ANY level in a game. I'm very glad to hear that Bioware is smart enough to always offer the option to solo at any level for when these moments do happen.
And if someone wants to solo the game, how does that impact your gameplay? Does it somehow detract from your enjoyment? Or is it that important to make sure to needlessly punish anyone who might have less time or not know people who play?
MMORPGs should offer different styles of play. It brings more people into the game and that's always a good thing.
Ww might even be able to convince those solo players to group more often as long as we don't cop attitudes that they're somehow inferior because they play the game a different way.
i agree as well, i think there should be options for different styles of gameplay. however, there should be incentives to play in groups. after all, in most of the current mmos out now, why bother grouping when it's faster and easier to solo, and you get all the loot and experience? it should be the other way around, just allow soloability as a viable course for action if no one's on or whatever. i mean, if the best option is to solo, then of course everyone is going to solo. if the best option is to group, then there will be more people to group, but if done right, you can still solo. it's just retarded seeing mmos discourage groups by reducing exp gained, not increasing loot drops, etc. i mean it's an mmo, not a single player game. and it doesn't have to be either/or
this is all in dealing with leveling of course, not end game raiding.
of course there's really not enough info on this game to even talk about this but whatever

Well in their press release they said it was very soloable. This is exactly what I expected. Bioware is a great company, for SINGLE PLAYER GAMES, no way this game is going to be anything but an over instanced theme park.

I prefer a game that can be solo'd. Why? Because the majority of MMO players nowadays are asshats that have no idea how to play their char/class properly. Ya know, the ones who play healer/ranged fighters, but decide they need to be in the front of the groups to play the tank? Or the ones that agro every mob then run back to their group who is still fighting the previous mob. How about the ones that constantly hoard all the loot for themselves. Or whine n whine cause they need XX loot n please give it to em?
Gone are the days of just throwing together a group n that group goes out n has a fun time exploring/hunting/questing. So may as well have the game soloable so you can go on your own rather than waiting for the asshat group.
Then why play an MMO? Just get a single player game revolving around Star Wars and save the monthly subscription.
What i like is a mix but lots of solo. Like final fantasy Xi has. you can level basicly alone till 25ish. then you can party the rest of the way. half the quests and missions are solo and the other half is grouped... so it has a nice mix for those who like solo, those who liked partied and those who like a bit of both once in a while and i hope this game ends up doing something like that. Though i have too agree with ppl that blizzard tends too do too much of one or the other lol.. well i guess one day they will hit the middle mark and lets hope its with this one

I have a very good feeling about this game. And I don't mind if its soloable so long as its not the WoW level of soloable.
