Tasos has both stated that he wants people to be able to try the game before they buy it, and that they were about two weeks behind when the beta expanded. On the try before you buy part. Contrary or at least in addition to tasos implying that open beta is this free test. I actually belive this is actually a reference to them doing a client download system and free 14 day trials like EVE online does. It makes sense and they don't need to rely so much on distribution. World of Warcraft: $80 Million
Vanguard: $30 Million
Evequest: $8 Million
Darkfall has about a $27mil loan in their budget from Marfin bank
When I see a thread like this I feel the need to throw in a big "Who the hell cares?" followed closely by a "Why is this any of your buisness?"
I care, because I'm interested in MMORPG development. Obviously all the people that bothered to post also care to some degree.
It's not "my business" as in I own stock and have a vested interest in knowing Aventurines finances, nor is it "my business" as in I am part of the agency that monitors and taxes busineses in Greece.
Does that mean I don't have a right to be interested in the subject? I think not.
People often discuss the financing of EQ, and WoW. You think somehow Darkfall should be immune to such discussions? Please present some coherent argument for such a sentiment, if that is indeed your contention.
There was a recent article about the cloing of TAbula Rasa. The Tabula Rasa development team spent 105 million Dollars. That is US dollars, one hundred and five, MILLION. The game brought in 5 Million in subscriptions fees. Ouch!

Wow Sony made a killing on EQ.
Where the hell are you all getting your information from?
I'm pretty sure Aventurine has said many times that they are mostly SELF-funded...
