Ok so I tried going back to WOW and well maybe it just isn't for me and that is ok. I tried WAR and well that didn't go so well either. I tried AOC at launch and like most here on the forums I think it was a bit of a downer with all the bugs. For the past several months AOC has put out some patches to correct alot of issues with the game and also added some pvp and pve content updates. Yes I would be the first to say that the game still needs more work but out of the newer mmos released this year AOC still holds more promise than most. So call me crazy, I'm giving AOC another go but this time I am going in with less expectations and just being concerned with just having fun.

You are crazy.
You are doing exactly what you should do. I suggest peopel that like any game, but couldn't play due to bugs should go back and play them. Vangaurd is great now, but isn't playable due to low pop.

Isn't the combat twitch-based? After recently replaying Oblivion and getting into Mount & Blade, I'm having a hard time getting back into the RPG based combat systems of MMOs. If AoC is twitch-based, it just might be enough for me to give it a try.
it is twitch based only for melee imo,
however the amount of micromanaging you do including your reflexes and how comfortable your key placement is determines your ability and skill. they all equally have to work well with one another or you may get fustrated with the controls.
Your crazy i doubt the game will last much longer if it does it will be owned by someone else. It still has a long way to improve and there laying off folks left and right.
MAGA
That's the most important thing, having fun with the game. It is your money, and if you are having fun with the game then it is money well spent. Welcome back.

Yet ranks in the 50's on Xfire, while games like EQ2 rank 90 and under...Vanguard is almost 200...heck look at DDO on it's 2nd year and can't place higher than #170 right now...
They never shut down.
AoC still has a ways to go before it dies...and the issue is it IS a good game, and just needs time to mature with the right direction and leadership...looks like Craig is filling that spot well BTW.
Cheers
Your not crazy, that's the way to do it.
I've been waiting all this time to play (main reason i didnt had the rig but that's another story lol) After reading the post all week long, i finally invest 350$ just to play this game, and fallout 3 of course. Anyway, WoW has come to an end, the expansion will put an end to this game, it's been running forever and it's definitly on his downfall now, slowly but obviously. Their subscribers will drop this year and where to you think these players will go?... New rigs at beginning of the year, better performances available... No other mmo have the promise of AoC and don't talk about darkfall please :P WoW players are getting olders now and if some of them are like me, they won't fall for this lego stuff anymore. I really don't think WAR is a replacement either, to much like WoW in many way.
So maybe it's time for funcom to rise.
I've played enough mmo and years invest to know what i'm talking about, the promises are there, it's a good time to start.
Those unsure and want something else than auto attack and easy going stuff, you can't be dissapointed by AoC, period
Add the end-game questing-instances and pvp promised and there's NO reason this game can't win...
I'm sure that the people (me included) who invested their time developing characters in Earth and Beyond, Auto Assult, and Tabula Rasa think that their money was well spent.
For me, the virtual world that a MMORPG creates is a place where my characters live and evolve. I grow attached to them and they reflect my personality. There is more to the experience than just having fun in the moment. There is a longer term character life-span issue. And it's not the so-called "end game", it's about the playability long-term but not necessarily at max-level. I love creating alts and experimenting with play styles. Developers that believe in content-widening (new content for all levels) are important to me.
Sorry this has turned into a ramble. I just wanted to comment that the "money well spent because you are having fun" argument does not hold water with me when we are talking about MMORPG's.
There is no doubt you want to leave a MMO on your terms and not getting shut down on. I played TR and getting the news of it getting shut down sucked, but the time I spent playing it I have no regrets. The game provided a fun experience. I went through the exact same thing with AC2. I still say both games were money well spent. I enjoyed my time in them. And on to the next...
Thanks for your opinion.

OP, if you are crazy I'm more crazy than you because I've just ordered the game
In the land of Predators, the lion does not fear the jackals...
Well it is good to see more crazy people on the boards Well I think the game is worth another shot. By no means will I say it will be the best mmo experience ever but atleast I will find out through my own experiences and not by others. I guess the other answer I need to find out is what server is good to start back up again. I know the last ime I played I was on Ajujo server but from what I hear Wiccana and Set might be the best ones. Anyone have any server suggestions ?
Ajujo is one of those low population servers. Don't play there. If you want PvE go for Set, Wiccana or Thog, Zug also has good activity according to some people, but if you want as much people as possible go with Wiccana or Set.
I'm on Wiccana and I enjoy the community quite well. I kind of like the little mix of role-play some of the players have on Wiccana. The ones I've grouped with are not hard-core by any means, but when in combat or small stuff they RP and it's neat to watch.
I don't know what server Wiccana will merge with, but still should be a good community. I don't have any problems finding groups. Both of my characters are in the mid 40s.
Look at the guild window in game and see if any meet your playstyle.

Well so much for trying the game out again. I installed the game again and now it is telling me I need to upgrade to dx10. I have windows xp media center version dx9 and ran the game before with no issues, Now it is telling me i must upgrade to dx10
I did see in patch notes you had to be upgraded to the latest directx. Shouldn't need dx10, but anyways the full file download is this link...

I`ll be playing on EU server and I have decided to go PvE as I don`t want the ganking. Dagon seems the most populated and I don`t know with which server it will merge later.
So I gonna choose a class as I still can`t decide between PoM,ToS and BearShaman, make my baby steps then look for a guild

Yea, like it was said above, you don't need DX10. In fact you can't even get DX10 for windows xp. What you need is the latest DX9 version, which you can download from the MS site above.
Updating DirectX
When the next update for Age of Conan will be made available in the near future (more than 14 days ago), players will have to upgrade their DirectX to the lastest version or they won't be able to enter the game. The launcher will detect this when the update is out and give the appropriate message of course.
We suggest that players update to the latest DirectX version before to save some time on the day of the update. The following URL links to the DirectX Web Installer on the Microsoft Donwload Center website:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=886acb56-c91a-4a8e-8bb8-9f20f1244a8e
If you get an error when trying to download please try again a little later on.
