    Heya,

Look, you can think what you like about Darkfall, but NDAs (especially physically signed NDAs) are extremely serious business. We're not talking about EULAs here, we're talking about contracts that can result in SERIOUS legal ramifications. I've had to sign them on a number of occasions for various jobs that I've done and I wouldn't even think of breaking one, it just isn't worth it.

    That is all

to start with ide say the developers of this game wont show you everything because they want to holod back a few nice smile makeing surprises unlike most other mmo developers in past i think they are doing it to increase speculation.

and as for money they have more than enough that is for sure. the game has prob been complete for ages boxed ready for production any beta isues will get patched . and as 4 stress tests its been done in house i bet you the servers will be brand new and if your like me you know the newer servers these days can handle 50,000 accounts with ease.

some ppl just want to moan or try create bad rumours and try put games down i can see ppl on mmo that do that to game why you ask.. its simple they work or payed to do it from rival game developers

It is almost like they wanna rise hype(in really stupid way), then make preorders possible 2(hmm it is DF so say 1year) months before game released and run away.... Maybe run some crapy game and say to buyers: we gave you game, we havent said anything about it, so go f**k yourselves...

Guys, they just want your money from the box sales so that they can finish this game because they are running out. This is going to be the worst launch in the history of MMO's IMO.

you dont read dev journals do you

they have tools that help them with this. but theys till need to double check with alot of testers

Sounds like a perfectly valid early stage public beta to me.

Less than 2 weeks from release?  You have no idea what you are talking about in terms of development.

I didn't say that I thought it was going to release on time.

You will obviously need much longer to do stress testing and completel balancing.  But 100 testers is a valid public beta any way you cut it.

Also, I very highly doubt you know what you are talking about in terms of development.  Real software is rarely released to large numbers of external users for all but the very last stages of public testing.

They have been in a closed beta state with .. I'll guess.. around this many testers since... the begining of this year.

And to address that last part..

You mean do large scale stress testing a few weeks before release?? The game is slated to do (release that is)..

    Seems sort of illogical..

They may have had that many testers, but those testers were most likely employees. There is a difference between a private/internal beta and a public beta.

And again, I am not 100% convinced the game will release in december 2008.

    BUT

4 weeks is more than enough time to go through one more stage of closed beta, and then an open beta.

Stress testing does not require extensive time or feedback. All they need to do is make sure the servers don't die.

Here is an example time line:

Dec 8 - Large number of new testers let in

    Dec 26 - Open beta

    Dec 31 - Release

If you have ever been involved with software development, you will know how people buckle down to get things done towards the end. The above time frame is very feasible.

    Heya,

NDAs are only legally binding if you get compensation of it, means money. So the NDAs you sign for some company, when you work for them (and get paid), are very serious business. The "NDAs" you sign to beta test a game (while not getting paid anything) are something you can wipe your behind on.

    That is all.

OP is probably right.  Darkfall has all the symptoms of alpha or internal testing.  The NDA is there for the good of the game, but I guarantee that if there was a public closed beta then there would be leaks.  There are no two ways about it.  People interested in the super secret game = at least one leak.

lol how much do you want to bet that Tasos's next move is releasing "leaked screenshots" from a "beta user"?  Secretly it will be Tasos doing the "leak" lol

Heres the thing I see. IF 50 people are in the beta  atleast one of them would have to hate the game and not give a crap about there access to it enough to talk about how bad they thought it was. It's just how people are.  So unless the forums are getting policed like crazy or 50/50 people love the game then I call BS.

As far as i know they tested 200 vs 200 people battle where it averaged in 30 fps or something. Now this means there is alot of people there to put a 200v200 fight at one time, there has to be at least 600-1k with access but Tasos said there is 50 people there and all we saw so far in beta are

    - italians

    - forums mods

    - devs

    - comic website girl

    Something smells funny to me

p.s. Someone correct me on tasos saying different numbers than 200 vs 200 if i am wrong but i am sure someone quoted something simmiliar to that, than if he says 50 people are inside, hm?

its too bad there was a very minor leak, which was quickly cleaned up. Was a screenshot, but had the chat box unblurred and showed some names, of which one was actually a long term follower on the forums.

beta is there, just a very small one. They dont need a big beta until they need to stress servers, and that takes a couple of days...called a public beta.

    learn to research, kthxbai.

btw, i wont link the leak, because its a LEAK.

    Apparently 08 didn't make it :(

    This.

Im starting to not even bother responding to people who wont believe that there have been leaks.

Or the ignorant people who really wont believe that people other than friends and family are playing.  Some guy was saying that no one from forumfall got invited.  Which is just false, as shown in the leaked screenshot.

Feel bad for them but they probably dont have a mmo right now or they are playing a crappy one.

I do believe in, at maximum, 10 people on this 'beta'... And hand-picked (probably all the brothers and sister, plus close friends of Tesos, or even only the dev team, plus 2 or 3 people).
And thats the point. This thing doesnt make a beta, at least on my eyes. Beta test involves the chaos possibility, people testing, stressing the system, the game... Thats not possible on a controlled environment... This isnt a beta test at all.
Plus, if you get the 'quotes' you have the impression that the beta have tons of people tehre, which is NOT truth at all...

I found a few beta leaks... some right here on mmorpg.com... im thinking you just dont know how to search the internet that well

Imho, a beta test is when customers test the product (or, in the case of MMOs, potential customers). There are people that are not employees of Aventurine testing the game. So, for me, it's a Beta test. We can discuss how big or how it's being done but, if there are customers, it's a beta.

On the quality of the test, I cant give any opinion becuase there havent been much info released on how or what they are doing.
