I'm actually doubting it. Now, as a former Earth and Beyond player, I actually liked the game. However, and I'm sure I'm not the only person that thinks this but I'm not going to speak for everybody, I found the game lacking. There were few areas to explore. And each area was small. It wasnt the dimensions that made it small. Rather, the lack of filler. You pretty much had 4 things to do. Explore, Trade, Mine, or PVP. And locking a character inside the ship or inside a space station meant that a good part of what makes a RPG (The role play) very difficult. And I thought the game wasnt very challenging. An average terran trader could easily make enough millions in credits to retire just by doing a week or two of fenris trade runs.
Now, where am I going with all this? Since E&B was announced to shut down, it's been said that although the genre was popular, it did not garner enough interest for a game of such to support itself. Yes, there are other games like it out there (Like EVE Online) but as a whole it cant compete as well with the other MMO genres.
My best bet is that if Earth and Beyond 2 were to be made, for it not to be based solely on space flight.
Take SWG for example. With their space expansion pack out, they're pretty much going to combine space exploration with the standard makings of a MMORPG to broaden the world for the players. If Earth and Beyond 2 were to also incorporate skills on the ground as well as skills in the air, it'd make the world more immersive for the players, providing a foothold for people to stay.
ok ya i will admit... the stations did well suck... other then that i found the game quite fun... I would guess it was because unlike most mmorpg's the storyline actualy affected gameplay (and the wrighting of the story was quite good imho)... most other games do have storylines but they dont really affect general gameplay... Virx(sp) who just started out as anoying pest became a menace to the galaxy...
the game was due for a expantion... all they did was add a few high end encounters and a few new systems... what was really needed was at least 15-20 more systems and more encounters, it reminded me of the old EQ kurnak dragon deal... to many high end players and not enough highend mobs to go around.
I tried EVE and it just didnt apeal to me... to much of the game is automated for my taste and seemd to move way to slow (not that the fernis run was fast even with a kickarse engine )
i guess the thing i did like best about it was there were alternate ways to level though 3 diffrent systems... vs most mmorpgs where you have to kill mob after mob after mob to level.
i do doubt there will be a EandB 2 but hay i can wish for that and perhaps a mmorpg fallout (sigh... ya i know that will never happen but man... damn that would be cool)
I dont think it will ever happen. According to some ea sources it was closing due to lack of members, and due to the way it was closed I doubt many of the former earth and beyond players wont contribute to any more EA games, including myself.

I like E&B, But I think it lacked content once you got up in levels. Plus it did not take long to explore the whole galaxy. If there is a E&B 2, I hope its alot bigger that it might take months to explore and more higher level content.
I think you're more likely to see a rebirth of E&B rather than a sequel. According to EA, the chance of selling the code or restarting the game are less than slim, so don't count on either.
----- There are 10 types of people in this world...those who understand binary, and those who don't.
I heard rumours ages back that Westwood had started on Earth and Beyond 2, although the sale of the game to EA might mean that never happens. I hope it does. I've been missing EnB since the day it closed and I have to say quite honestly I've found nothing that can replace it. I was a very regular player on Pegasus for almost the whole two years and would still be playing now if it had not been shut down.
If someone can add some hope to the appearance of Earth and Beyond 2 then they will make me very happy. In the meantime Eve is just EnB but without all the group interraction (and fun). It's like Eve doesn't need to be an online game at all. Vendetta offers (I'm sorry), last century graphics and every other game is basically a FPS.
Seamless border between planets and space (actual atmospheric entry), at least minimal orbital physics, being able to exit your spacecraft on planets and journey through strange alien planetscapes, sending out boarding parties to take control of another ship corridor by corridor, beautiful economy, and fun gameplay will be enough to get me to play a game like E&B again.

I really wish someone would pull their heads out of their asses and create a game as you describe.. Ground action, Space action and some squad based space fighting action.. If your squad made enough cash throuh quests or whatever you could buy a capital ship with hangers that your ships could rest on and while on foot you could travel through the capital ship, man turrets, pilot, goto living quarters and have other activities depending on how good a cap ship you bought.

I never did get to play E&B although I did hear it was okay, good graphics, good flying but low contect.
At the time I was playing Jumpgate so I missed out on E&B and would like to see 2 come out. At least this time I can try it out and see if its as good as I heard.
The problem with space sims is that there is a low market % for them I would imagin, specially if you want to make it MMO style. Now if they could make this Space sim also a FPS then it would be very good and bring in more people.
Sorta like bringing in Jump to Light Speed or even bring space combat to Planet Side would be interesting.
What better way for EA to do its competition, than to release a space/ground mmporg? and instantly attract tons of players just by having the title Earth & Beyond.
Sony Online Entertainment has control of the Space/Ground sci-fi Mmporg. StarWars Galaxies and EA being the monopoly it is I would bet.. Doesen't like that at all.
I would hope that SWG's sucsess makes EA jelous and to try to make more money by releasing an Earth & Beyond 2, or just the rebirth.
and EVE-Online, lol I Don't know about you guys.. but that game is BORING!
Cmannn EA, look at the competition I bet you guys can make a Good new EnB!
and if your lazy just use eve and swg for a mach up on it, then build around that. I can't see why they wouldent make a second one... or i just loved the game so much i wont stop bugging till i see it!
A few weeks ago, I read on some website that EA had called upon most of the original EB devs to work on a "unnamed title" that was to be a more up-to-date version of a older MMORPG they had released. If E&B 2 was on the horizon....I would have to take EA off my blacklist.
I could only dream of an EnB 2 type game. What made EnB so great was how simple it was to play. Almost a warcraft in space if you will. Yeah it would be great if the galaxy was more then four times the original size. And a lot more quest where availalbe per sector. But the Zen of Mining was the best. I could sit and mine for hours and still be happy. I am pretty should EA will not do it. That might actually make since, and we can not expect that from EA.
Since i started my free trial on EvE i realized that apart from it being a "space" game it was nothing like EnB... I originally thought of it as like a sequel but once i played it i realized it was absolute crap... the only good thing about it is the graphics.
People hardly ever chat on that game, there's millions of KM of space between people ALL the time making contact IMPOSSIBLE unless both parties try. Gang (party/group) warfare suckssss! Corporation (guild) also is horrible because there's absolutely nothing to do in EvE except make gold... that's it...
I'm sure some people out there like EvE really well but I dont, it's not fit to be EnB's crap. EA games ruined a great concept from westwood and it failed, if they hadn't done that I'd still be playing.
The closest game i've found so far that's pretty good is freelancer, it's not online like EnB but it's about as good as offline can get, and no monthly free to boot!
I sure hope there's an EnB 2, i dont think space genre games will ever recover without it.
If you dont like my opinion, well... close your eyes, turn around 8 times quickly and stand up.
I can only wish. I've tried Eve, EQ2, WOW, and COH and they just don't compare to EnB. I agree with all the posts here (especially the one about mining - that was soooo relaxing and I have no idea why ). Fun game - easy to play - GREAT community and interaction with other players - awesome potential. The game wasn't for everyone, but I saw a LOT of people leave for other games and most of them always returned to EnB. Too bad WW was bought out and had to up and move soon after launch. I think that hurt the the game in a lot of ways. You've got a gem sitting in the vault EA (hint, hint). Oh, well I'll stop remorsing over another good one that died way too early but I'm still looking for my replacement for EnB and I have a feeling I will be for quite some time.
EA recently sent out a survey for UO with questions regarding updating the look to 3D, old school PvP, maritime warfare, etc so it's possible that rumor about recruiting for an older MMOG is for UO.
I really miss EnB. The endgame was lacking but that was partially because funding was stopped and Westwood was doing all they could to keep the game running (new content without voiceover, reusing existing quests, etc).
EnB was a great game and the team had a lot of community minded ideas. I would be elated seeing a totalpackage EnB2 (site, guild support, game, etc) surface.

while i would love there 2 be a ENB2 if EA had anything to do with it is doomed from the start ,
ea can kiss my ass if i put my self throught the dreadful approach of handling mmorpgs
i loved EnB spent 2 1/2 years of my life on it , seen it all watched as ea slowly drained the life out of westwoods baby
