Darkfall: Interview with Tasos Flambouras

StraddenStradden Managing EditorMember CommonPosts: 6,696

Recently, MMORPG.com had the opportunity to ask a number of questions of Darkfall's Tasos Flambouras about the length of the that the game has been in development, the beta process and release schedule.

MMORPG.com:

Can you tell us, as of the answering of this Q&A exactly where Darkfall stands in terms of nearness to being a launch-ready title?

Tasos Flambouras:

Darkfall could launch today. It's more ready for launch than most, if not all of the MMORPG titles at the same stage that I've personally sampled and it has been for quite some time. Everything has been tested internally and since November 10th we've been using an ever-growing number of external testers.

Awesome interview, and quite a coup for MMORPG.com. Nice job guys.

This has put quite a few of my worries to rest, and answered a lot of questions. Specifically their odd marketing stance.

Tasos seemed quite defensive, and understandably so. There were some pretty straight-to-the-point questions. I especially loved his "Compared to what?" response to the suggestion that DF has been in development for a long while.

So...it is ready to launch. More ready than most if not all other MMO's released.

Yet it doesn't launch. Why? No reason given. Update? Not in the slightest. A few more days, well considering Beta should have been over in a couple of days I suppose that is some kind of improvement at least.

On the plus side, at least we know about the numbers in Beta. Several hundred sounds about right, with more than likely no more than 100 on-line at any given time.

The stress test of this game will be very interesting.

"If people were dismissing it, then they wouldn't be talking about it. The well-meaning gamers root for efforts that try to raise the bar. So who's left? It's so easy being a skeptic." -Tasos

Well I did learn one thing.  Tasos is a huge ego maniac.  Besides that more of the same old same old.  I'm tired of all the smoke and mirrors.

I'm sorry. Just another interview. More words and nothing else.

So much for getting something substantial.

The community asked for mmorpg.com to dig in and get substance, preferably into the beta so they could review it the same as the Italian guys supposedly did.

    Instead, more words.

Everyone should mouse over the screenshot. Will give you a good laugh.

Oh we did get something substantial. *nod* We got confirmation of Beta-Numbers, which are as small as most serious people guessed.

And we also got a promise of a release date. That, coupled with Tasos official statement that the game will launch 2008, is a commitment.

It's time to put up or shut up for Darkfall within the next few days. I don't see how anyone could seriously support this game anymore -IF- the new year arrives without launch-dates and/or beta.

Sweet jebus man, you've got to start somewhere.

We were told that an announcement was coming in the next few days. This is called laying the groundwork for more in-depth coverage.

Ok so I think this might be my first actual post at MMORPG.com.  I've been here for a few years though.  But anyway didn't anyone else think this Tasos guy came off as a bit of an egotistical jerk?  I mean just the way in which he answered the questions it was if he was acting like he and his company are far superior than anyone else.  Sorry but to me he just came off as a bit of a prick.

Interesting read so we should hear something by the middle of next week on OB if they have one and  release dates.

So what exactly makes you go forward in life Zorvan? Seeing as you are obviously incapable of having any form of faith or even a mild understanding of the fact that If the game does not release it hurts no one. The benefits of the game releasing far outway that of the game not releasing.

Here I will put it into two scenarios the best I can.

    1. The game does not release- One group of people are upset for a few months that the game did not release and go find another MMO to wait on. The Second group says "I told ya so DUDE!" and attempts at making themselves look better than the people who wanted the game to release.

    2. The Game releases- People have fun, others do not.

It's an Age of Conan screenshot. Mouse over it in the full interview. And nothing is proven yet.

He did kind of sound annoied... probably after all the things that came from the mmorpg.com community; his earlier interviews here were much more friendly, but tbh... what do you expect after a petition to remove darkfall from these forums reached about ten pages before beeing closed? Beeing a little pissed is naturally. Also, he sounded pretty sure that he'll be able to deliver his promises.

Please stop -praising- Tasos to the high heavens. Most people would agree that he was nothing but ego-centric in this interview and acted like a prick.

Substance? Yeah. We got one number, and a vague one at that and the promise of another announcement, also in vague terms. Lucky for us, he already committed to 2008, so he is under much more pressure than during the last years when he could always say that no specific dates were ever given.

Other than that, this interview is just tasos telling everyone that Aventurine is doing things right and everyone else is doing them wrong, and Aventurine is much better than anyone else, period.

Edit: "It's so easy being a skeptic." <- This one made me laugh. The truth is, it's easy not believing anything...just as it's easy to believe -everything-.

It's trying to sort out the truth from the lies that's difficult. *smirk*

uhm... no? It's not an age of Conan screenshot, it's here (http://www.darkfallonline.com/gallery/visuals/dc_01) in the official darkfall gallery to find :)

With the ammount of flack Aventurine gets from this community, I think he deserves to be a prick.

    All hail Tasos.

    They did give a reason.

"We need the playtesters mostly for extra gameplay feedback and to test hardware configurations."
