not flaming you here, im just trying to point out since you seem to honestly think you arent a troll...what some of the things you do that others consider trolling.

Wow.. I guess you have bernie blocked too.

Read the bottom of her posts where she says kthxbai.  Then you'll know what Im talking about. It's a dismissal.  Its how you win internet arguments.. seems I"m not the only one who's not reading all of the posts..

And.. it seems the more you type, the less I care about what you type.  All you've done is show your true blind follower colors..  And according to MMORPG's trolling policy, attempting to get a response out of me, or insulting me is trolling.. so.. you are technically a troll as well.

Oh.. and I'm going to block you as well. You don't provide any sort of no biased view of darkfall, You're no better than originalegg as far as "What?? you don't love DARKFALL??? TROLL!!"

Trolling would be making a thread that you claim in the title that it has had 13 years of development when it is know that it has been 5 years....or at the most if you nitpick...7 years (about to be 8).

Block me, would make things a lot easier if you never responded to my posts.

Wow.. it's dropping.. faster and faster.

the post I wrote (if you actually read the link.. which you didn't) says that Claus was thinking of darkfall 6 years ago(from 2001, so that's 1995, in case you aren't good with numbers). I didn't say development, did I?  Do yourself a favor before you type from now on.  Read what you are flaming.  Does that sound like an awesome, idea??  And for tomorrow.. we'll discuss labeling people..

you really do amaze me though.. you pick your truths and run with them.. I hope you never pick scissors as a truth.. or you'll be screwed!.

They had an official company commitment to release with 2008.  That is a broken promise.  Of course, I also count the "beta soon" announcements every single year as failures, but I wont count them as promises.
Right and as i said, the only promise you could argue they broke is the 2008 goal, and they missed that by 22 days...hardly something to put blame on.
You are part of the problem.

You think that they should have been giving interviews and providing info over the years...
They have been. Problem is, their credibility started falling because of lack of results to back up the words.
Credibility has been fine in my opinion and the opinion of many others.
Why?  Really you have no idea what you are talking about.  They should have been doing what WAR and AoC did so they could be as successfull as them?  wow so ridiculous.
If someone gives you a coloring book, but you color outside the lines and make a crappy picture - is it a bad coloring book?  The method works, you have to follow it.
The community doesnt DESERVE anything from them before release.  Get over your sense of entitlement...you dont deserve anything.
When they use me for marketing buzz, they owe me the truth.
They have given you the truth.  A common mistake from those who dont understand how a business works.
What the community deserves is a quality product on release.  Good communication once we are paying customers.  Until we pay them $, they owe us nothing.  Seriously this genre is so spoiled with this stuff...they can develop however they would like.  Unbelievable how dense people are.
Sure they can dev however they like.  And we can criticize them for it too.  As a marketing guy, I dont understand your seeming approval of customer alienation.  If it pisses us off, it is not good, even if we do buy the product.  As I mentioned before, I will forgive, but I dont forget.  They have jerked me around for 5 years.  I will love the game if it delivers, but I wont love  Aventurine.
They havent jerked you around.  You chose to follow an unreleased product.  Sorry but i dont sit outside the offices where they design new tennis raquets and expect them to clue me in on the design features and the development process because im a potential customer.  I choose to stand out there, my choice, they owe me nothing.

When I walk onto a car dealership, I'm a potential  customer.  When I walk into a Best Buy, I'm a potential customer.    That doesn't mean the salespeople get to act like jerks and ignore me until I purchase their product.

If they aren't helpful, if I'm not given answers to my questions to my satisfation and if I'm not treated with respect, I take my money and find someone who will.

For some reason MMORPGs have gotten away with treating their customers in ways that no other market could.    That's because the MMORPG community has let them.

MMORPGs are evolving.   Whether people like it or not, they've started to enter mainstream gaming markets and now their developers have to deal with the same service issues that every other industry learned decades ago.

And frankly, that's a good thing.

(And when I said "We'll see in a month' I wasn't agreeing with you either.    I said MAYBE they will.   MAYBE they won't either.  We'll all see soon) .

I will let you in on a secret - they have not released the game yet.  So we dont know how badly they will miss their promised target.  Since we are not playing horse-shoes, no points for being close.  They gave themselves a 7 month window already!

Just want to emphasise - because WAR and AoC failed (among many, many others) does not mean standard procedures dont work.  They are standard for a reason.  The problems always come from deviation, in my experience.

They have given you the truth.  A common mistake from those who dont understand how a business works.
I have been involved in taking products from design to post-release support, and learned to hate suits and marketing-weasels.  I have stated in other threads what I think about their version of the truth - which contains no bad news, I wont repeat it here.
What the community deserves is a quality product on release.  Good communication once we are paying customers.  Until we pay them $, they owe us nothing.  Seriously this genre is so spoiled with this stuff...they can develop however they would like.  Unbelievable how dense people are.

Please, this is hogwash.  The tennis raquet company didnt issue a press release inviting you to hang out in their newly created customer lounge either.  The tennis raquet company didnt ask you to go spread the word about their great tennis raquets.  The tennis raquet company didnt say you could test their prototype before it was released, as long as you hung out at the customer lounge, or gave them your contact info.  I could go on, but the absurdity should be clear.
And, you did not address my actual concern.  Is it wise to alienate your customer, or do you not think that has happened in this case?

    Theo,

I see where you are comming from.  You make some good points that I agree with, and others that I personally disagre with that I feel are subjective.

You are one of the very few healthy skeptics on these boards so hopefully you know im not trying to insult you in my above responses.  Im going to stop the quote + new color system because honestly that shit drives me insane when trying to respond that way.

I think the bottom line is that what matters is we are all gamers (que music) and that we are all just hoping a good game comes out and that the genre stops being so terrible.

I need to stop worrying so much about this forum because it really is wasting my time, because very few of the skeptics actually take the time to support their arguements like you do.  (see others in this thread that are just here to bait).

Again, the main point is that MMORPGs have been mistreating customers AFTER release.  That is all that matters.

AoC reached into the pockets of the community, took our money and said lol F U we lied but maybe we'll put those features in later just keep paying us.

Absolutly agree that mmos get away with too much shit post release.

    Prerelease thoguh....they owe us NOTHING.

It is like following the release of a new movie.  The producers owe you NOTHING.  NOTHING.

They market the product when it is almost ready to be put in theaters.

This is so true yet people believe/think the gaming industry owes them constant updates.

Yup its a far too common mistake.  And for most of them, they are so spoiled that they refuse to even entertain the idea about it.

Im all for communication.  Hell I love when companies keep us updated in detail about every update.  I LOVED  the warhammer newletter that detailed each class as it was developed, the races, the cities, etc...that was one of the coolest things a developer could do.

But all that had NOTHING to do with the ability to develop a mmo, quality of product on release, or communication post release.  Which is the point im trying to make.

It was great that WAR did that.  It was good marketing.  But it wasnt necessary and certainly wasnt deserved, but they did it anyways and its good communication, im not denying that.

But you cant fault Aventurine for doing it differently.
