LMFAO at you guys! I could solo most of everything (except Krayts and a few of their higher level quest areas) in SWG pre-cu as a BH/Pistoleer/Novice medic, Covette? Solo run, easy. Then the CU came, I could solo Krayt with the same template, but the addition of Novice Doc, My Jedi could easy solo run most crap on Kashyyk. Then the NGE came and once again everything could be soloed, till they started adding their crap group instances.
And when are lightsabers going to be taken true-to-theme? Sitting there whacking repeated at that giant spider creature and you're not cuting it to pieces with each swing? I'm sick of that in Star Wars games. Lightsabres are supposed to cut things to shreds, not beat them to death like brightly colored baseball bats. One swing, one kill. Thats how lightsabers roll, damnit.
I find this laughable, its funny that anyone who even plays an MMO would even consider that a brilliant idea. You know how hard it would be to balance a "IWIN" button like that? What would be the use of any other weapon if the lightsaber was taken "true to theme"? Blasters? Nope they can deflect them. Melee weapons? Most would be cut in half trying to block. There's a damn reason why no star wars game is made "True to theme" with lightsabers. Its called balance.
Would KOTOR be fun when you ended up having to fight sith with nothing but a group of ragtag people with blasters and maybe a sword? Hell no, you'd be bitching about how the game is horribly unfair and that they made it so the enemies can one-shot you while blocking your every shot.
And think of this, for the MMO to actually have true lightsabers, more time would have to be spent on figuring out how to make it so other players can block or dodge, and I'm sure you'd be bitching about just holding one button for god knows how long. Or how about a huge boss that needs a group? Nope just let the jedi go in and one-shot it.
As for the style, its more in line with where Lucas Arts is taking the series, their various animated shorts and the movie. While I'm not quite into it, I understand they are trying to attract others, not just the hardcore starwars fans.
I'm not too into the game, but I know Bioware is a good developer, I'm just worried they might not be able to handle the large amount of work this game will be after release, constantly tweaking and balancing things while adding content in a good pace is more work than making a game, then releasing a "DLC mission" months afterwards.
As for the Solo thing, its aimed at the casuals. I personally dont mind being able to solo, but I dont mind grouping up to do something. I'm pretty sure there is some group stuff in the game though, wouldn't be an MMO without it :P

Vid was awesome. Thanks for the link. We'll see how they handle the MT thing, if that is even true. We don't know the details yet. IMO Bioware is one of the few companies that get it right almost universally, so I have faith this one is going to be awesome. Can't wait. There really isn't anything else even promising to me right now.
Bioware is normally a very good company, for singleplayer games. I don't expect them to make a good MMO at all. I expect them to make a glorified singleplayer game. Instances, mostly solo gameplay, NPC partys, what makes you think this game WON'T be singleplayer focused? When its being made by one of the kings of singleplayer RPGS?
The entire direction of this game appears to be of like their other kotor titles, and NOT that of an MMO.

Reverted your 100% theory. Good.
Now why don't you let people who enjoy the concept of the -possibility- of solo-play as opposed to the -forced- grouping enjoy this kind of game while you enjoy something else.
It cracks me up to see people blabbing about the demise of the MMO genre and how games only cater to solo-players when in all those games they complain about, all it takes is a bit of social interaction to actually group and have fun with other people. It seems to me these same people are somehow unable to make social connections on their own, by their own initiative, unless the game forces them to do so.
I'll be happily playing a game where I can log on, and regardless of what situation I am in, I can play, be that with my GF, with my friends, with some random group for something OR by myself. Those who have a problem with this...I just don't understand you.

Haha, I don't care if its ALL solo game play. If the game occupies my time for more than 20+ hours it would be no different than buying a single player game and I would have my monies worth,

Years ago I would have had a nerdgasm watching this. Now it just doesn't move me. Especially seeing how it appears from the video that every player character is going to be a Jedi or Sith.
That’s a pretty unreasonable conclusion to come too based on one video with may contain 40 seconds of alpha footage and no talk of other classes which they have said over and over again that they are not ready to talk about. I would wait and see. (edit) watch the video again, there was some non-jedi combat in there.
Looked pretty good for pre-alpha stuff. The reasoning of the art director was just retarded though.
"We went with stylized realism because we wanted our own look" Yeah their own look. like the 300 other games that already have/will copy WoW.
Not that the cartoony graphics bother me. He could have just told the truth(so even old PC can run the game). I like it and would like it even more if they made those character proportions little more realistic like.

So you mean to tell us that you can't tell one art style from another? Like maybe you can't tell Ghost in the Shell from Futurama? Or The Simpsons from Aeon Flux? Or Enki Bilal from Alex Ross?...
If so, why knock the game? It's obviously your shortcoming.

Well yar, I really was saying, "the pre-cu fanbois" to "die hard to casual gamers who enjoy WoW" without really saying it. I know those 2 groups hate each other, but I hope this game can fuse the best of both these games together and make it work.

Bioware's first mistake right here:
Cartoon Graphics - They look pretty good to be honest, but it's Star Wars! Star Wars should not be cartoony. Not at all what I'm looking for in a MMOPRG
