My thoughts exactly. But I think you mean, "Flawed" :P
I played WAR in Beta but didn't like the lack of PvE content. I wanted WAR to be a game where the player could literally do whatever he/she wanted whenever he/she wanted... But before the newest patch, WAR basically "FORCED" you to either do PQ's over and over and over again while waiting for your scenerio.. I had hoped the PvE content would have been as compelling as EQ's and even EQ2's.. But this is where the game lacks tremendously. The dungeons are a joke, basically just thrown in as a half azz alternative to the rollercoaster ride from doing PQ's and scen's all day long..
I'm happy to see mythic made RvR sieges more fun. This is one aspect of the game that I liked, but hardly any people would participate in them because most were out building their renown rank by doing scens and getting phat lewts + leveling doing PQ's... This still isn't enough for me to come back, but I'm happy to see the people who have stuck by that game since day one enjoying the newest patch.

if it stays this way, full oRvR I might have to buy it.
when I trialed the game (sneaky sneaky ) I liked the idea of the lakes but when I went there in tier 1 anyway they where empty. plus the combat was way worse than aoc which I was currently playing so I did not buy the game. I only played for a few days so if I see it cheap I'm gona give it a full 30 day go.

I had various little things that bothered me. Tho I had been in closed beta for a pretty long time. So I knew what I was getting into.
The main issue for me was after tier 1.
I liked the Nordenwatch scenario. Not because it was Tier 1.. just the way it worked. After that I never really found another one I liked.
Having played DAoC I liked "open rvr" and/or keep attack/defense. My high population server had keep fights twice a week. Which wasn't quite enough for me...
So I did cancel but if I get the impression that things are consistent and sustained I'd probably give it another shot.
What has changed about open RvR other than new rewards? Honest question.
Will adding lots of gear and reputation to grind solve the RvR problems that were happening before on a long term basis? I'm not sure, but something needed to change.
Also if the answer is to slather the players in gear rewards this just opens the door to what people complained about in other games. Gear being a major factor of gameplay. I have always said that Mythic didn't chang enough in Warhammer to get away from the concept of gear as a reward/motivator.

Well you would be surprised how much new rewards by themselves influence players. Do you play the game? then you should have noticed a radical improvement and action in RvR lakes.
So far so good, and this method is working. What happens once most of the population gets all it's oRvR loot from all pairings? Mythic assured players that this is but a step towards rendering oRvR interesting and they're not done yet.
Yep seems like gear will once again be the main reward in yet another MMO. Some people will complain, but as is apparent the majority doesn't care as long as they're having fun, and oRvR can be very, very fun.
I wasn't suggesting the rewards would not provide more action. It was more about speculating if they are more of a short term fix than a long term fix.
Also gear is a fine motivator and reward, but I am not certain it suits this style of game and won't just hurt it in the long run.
Open RvR's been going like crazy since the patch...
Imo this is a great thing to liven up the lower tier RvR. I've rolled a few alts and I can't get enough of the low tier action.
T4 (that's max level for you) is a bit more problematic. People will max out that influence pretty fast and then wonder what to do next (no problem with that in lower tiers since you will level out before you max the inf). I can't wait to see what Mythic's got planned for the second and subsequent patches to open RvR!
And here's to all you hysterical trolls who were saying that open RvR is "broken" beyond repair. No wonder WAR devs don't want to have official forums where they'd have to politely listen to that kind of garbage. The way people are spoiled and cynical today is making my skin crawl.
Wasn't it rumored to be more skill and less gear based? Once upon a time.
Actually it is team-based, more than anything.
Then comes skill and then gear.
Right tactics/renown/morale skill setups have much much more impact on stats than gear for example.
Gear is cool, but good t/r/m setup will beat superior gear any time of day or night. And good setup and its appropriate use is a matter of player skill as well.

Beyond taking a free shot at some generic group of people..
Having official forums does not mean anything of the kind. SOE has official forums and its pretty obvious they don't actually "listen" to them. Even with them you do not have to read a thread that may irritate you.. just like here. Except that I'd get paid to not read them if I was a Mythic community mod. I just have to wait for the little flashing "forum tos violation report" to come up.
Spoiled.. cynical..
Personally I like to think we used to get a better "quality" product than we do now. DAoC being a fairly decent example .. compared to WAR (even made by the same company *gasp*).
If having "high" expectations makes me spoiled and cynical.. then I'm glad to be just that.
What was recently done was "good" but we need to see more of this and have it last. I played DAoC for years.. so I may return to WAR.. but I will want to see more than "one good month".
Yes I know that makes me a hysterical troll. ta ta

Yes, spoiled and cynical.
With that kind of attitude no MMO ever would have had the right to succeed past the 1st month of the release.
If you applied that kind of yardstick to your beloved DAoC for example (great game, all else aside) it should have never had the right to become what it is now. This shoot first and ask questions later is a quality of a spoiled child "Waaaagh I want my lolly now! You will NEVER give it to me! Waaaaagh! I have to cry and bitch and moan! Waaaagh! I'll break it because it's not giving it all to me right now!!" Spoiled and childish - NOT adult and civilized.
NIce to see action in the oRvR lakes; however, there is still the underdog problem that when you keep getting rolled (due to larger numbers being on one team) they there doesn't appear to be any Renown or XP gains.
I feel that there has to be some mechanism to put is damage = reknown / XP; otherwise we are just back to scenario again where there is a "garantee" of XP/ reknown (as well as more balanced battles).
However, the patch has been a great success I feel
just want to say thanks for this thread . i ve been in wow a couple of months for the lich kind but always wanted to wait and see what war would come up with . it does sound like its worth a second look now . theres an awful lot of people i know in wow that are adopting similar wait and see approach to warhammer . it ll be ineteresting to see what happens .

I' m really happy about the changes. Also the outdoor lair bosses have great loot now and some of those lairs are ... well ... the words 'epic' and 'awesome' popped in chat more than once when we went looking for them.
The changes this patch has brought to Open RvR is just plain awesome and fun. Nothing like watching two waves crash into each other, or having 10 or so peeps defend a keep against the hordes of enemies. Good times!
Cheers!

My blog:
how did u trial the game i didnt even know there was a trial
Sounds like a big step in the right direction.
If they'd make it play less like a shooter and more like an MMORPG I'd be more interested, but can't gave it all.

To be more specific, the oRvR rewards are given out by the Rally Masters in the warcamps, not in the regular chapter areas.
yea sory wasnt enough specific
No worries. I just wanted to make sure people knew where to go to claim any rewards.
kk... hm its kinda strange we didnt get an flamers yet... hurra
