I can't have a awesome powerful character unless I adjust my real life around a raid schedule.
That's it, thats the major reason I can't play this game.
kinda messed up huh? my character has to be pwnage. that's just the way I like to play.
Edit: Since people seem to think I'm trying to say i want to be Uber with a casual play schedule I am editting my post. I played WoW a crazy amount of hours a week It was the raid schedules that got to me not the amount of playing.
I dont want freebie epics for playing five hours a week, I want to get the best shit and not have to follow a schedule like the games a job.
A grown man looks like a freaking tool telling his wife he can't goto a show since he needs to raid at 7:30pm.
IN games like Eve I can log on at anytime during a 24 hour day and take advantage of all content.
In WoW the game was 100% about the epics (high tier epics not welfare) How could I get these epics if i didnt want to run a schedule? I cant. Even if I played 20 hours a day I couldnt unless I followed some dudes 3-5 day a week schedule.
Its the schedules not being able to play X amount of hours. I hope this clears things up.

Why not server transfer and find a really amazing guild that doesn't raid much, but still progresses fast? There are some really good guilds that only raid two or three days a week for three/four hours on those days.

And you have that awesome powerfull character in other games?
Like I told you: I raided once a week and was top in the stats in each BG with my PvP gear. The one time per week I did join the guild-raid I never had any complaints I was in 50% Brutal gear (highest PvP gear).
I even mostly pass on PVE gear, doing it just for the fun and "experience".
Our guild only got to the first 2 bosses of BT though, never further.
it is of course what you mean about "awesome". Topping the PvP charts in the Bg's gives me a good feeling. So awaiting the WotLK PvP gear the next days is more important than an epic drop for me.
Lol, I find giving up works the best too. WotLK has seems to have brought the best out in everyone. Now that everyone doesn’t have epic PvP gear and has to quest to get gear noone seems to like the game. I play a prot warrior, who hasn’t dinged 80 yet. I am constantly group with level 80 DPS classes in they level 70 S2 gear and I find myself lol’ing at then when they roll need on greens.
My server is full on 80 DPS classes all QQ’ing about not being able to find a tank or healer. When they do get a group to run a heroic they fail. All I can suggest is RUN QUESTS!!!! The game provides. I was fully geared at the end of BC and now I am fully geared (in my level blues) at 79. Try playing the game and not blasting to max level.
Actually I do, In Eve online I don't need to schedule my life around the game and I still own a pimp ass ship. defend my 0.0 territory, protect fellow players and do whatever I want with no limitations with limited game time.
In ryzom theres not one aspect of the game I can't get into as a player that refuses to schedule his life around a game (even fighting world raid bosses).
See the thing is once I'm following a schedule I almost feel like a slave, since my time isn't my own.
In wow I have to follow these schedules in order to have the best stuff and imo if you don't want the best stuff why play?

It is still a little to early for most guilds to have concrete raid schedules at this point. There are so many people still on the path to level 80 and many more still running dungeons in preparation for raids. Combine that with the multiple options for 10 man or 25 man raids and there should be a schedule out there somewhere that fits your playtime.
You could also set up your own raids that suit your playtimes.
Yep, messed up indeed. I have full epics without raiding. I'm moreso surprised since your avatar is from EVE...which is the greatest time-sink with little progress I have ever known in a game.

It definitely sounds like PvE raiding isn't for you in general.

The only odd thing to me is that.. compared to most MMO's... the average character in WoW IS very powerful.
Most games I've played IN raid gear you aren't as powerful as the generic WoW character.. and then you are back to... raiding.
I know you didn't say you were playing anything else but.. I can't think of any game where you don't have to spend a decent amount of time to be "powerful" within that game world.
/shrug
I'm not a big WoW fan so not being able to play it for me.. is more out of repetition and boredom. I feel that way about most every level based game tho.
I play WoW for 30 days about every 6 months.. its entertaining that way for me. I couldn't play more than that.
Then go buy Fable 2 and give up MMO's
Assassin's like to do it in the dark and from behind.
honestly now you can get great gear with only 10 man content which really only requires and hour or to maybe twice a week to complete
The problem with an attitude like that in a game like WoW is that the bar is constantly raised so that all your hard work will eventually be rendered obsolete. I think this is why a lot of people end up resenting WoW as it takes a huge investment to be among the top 5% of players, by which time an expansion or new arena season has landed and they have to start all over again.
It's not wrong to want to 'be the best', it just shows that you're competetive and like to be challenged. The problem in an MMO is that you'll never truly reach end game or get that carrot on the end of the stick. To enjoy WoW you have to completely change your perspective and play for fun. Not to win.

I suggest that you keep playing Eve then and forget about WoW. If Eve is your game why do you bring up WoW? 11 million People including the Gold Farmers do not care why you can't play wow,and I am sure the Blizzard Devs really give a crap what a minority player who does not like the game says.WoW is not goin to change its game for the minority gamers, they have a successful mmo and until it starts to die which may be years away you can count on more of the same with few new idea's Sad but true.
I completely get the what the original poster is saying.
I am competitive by nature, I like to be on even footing with everyone else I play with. For example I played EVE a year ago but gave up after 3 months since there is/was no hope in me having as diverse skills/specs as those that started when it first released.
However with WoW, personally I just couldn't stand the monotomy of raiding over and over again. That and I also hate following cookie cutter stratigies to beat a scripted boss multiple times, now if they could make raiding with a l4d style director it would be bareable - well extremely fun actually.
For the above reason I am pretty much your average PvPer since its hella more fun as its not scripted.
Also WoWs carrot on the end of the stick is gear, why the hell would I want to waste time getting gear when only a few months down the line theres another gear set I need to get to compete? Just not something that I fancy. Hence I'm waiting for Darkfall/MO/Earthrise - where gear is not the main factor, skills arn't learnt in real time (EVE), and raiding isn't endgame. Endgame is what you make it - for me it'll be World PvP ^^
Btw to the guy that said well why are you playing EVE its a timesink with no progress:
You can't measure progress in EVE or any other sandbox for that matter, its a subjective experience, you have total freedom to do what you want, as opposed to WoW where you are forced to either grab endgame pve gear or pvp gear. Technically EVE also has many features which really excel in offline progression - which further enables those with limited play times to stay on a level playingfield. Only downside is these features usually put new players off, myself for example.

I'm not sure what the point is of posting a thread to slap the original poster and Blizzard. The original poster brings up a concern, all was have to do is address it or agree with an explanation to support our position. Kinda glad you seem not to like World of Warcraft, not sure I'd want to meet you (or your character) in the game's community.

Everquest 1 and 2 have an alternative solution. You can just buy your gear and you're "uber". That would save a lot of time raiding or developing skill:

LMAO
I hope that was a joke Real life trappings should never equate into a MMO.

I would tend to disagree with your argument that WoW 'forces' you to get gear. End game has never been my motivation in WoW and in my 4 years of playing I've never experienced a true raid nor achieved a full set of PvP gear.
To me, WoW is a sandbox insofar as I have no specific goals. This has a lot do do with the fact that I'm in a very casual guild that sets our own challenges. This might be anything from two-manning Kara to launching attacks on Horde cities. Sure this might be pointless to some, but we sure as hell have a lot of fun doing it. And at the end of the day, that's all that matters to me.

True True each to thier own.
Its just if I were raiding Alliance cities I would want/need to have decent gear as I'd want to do my damndest to win.
I just get put off when I have to repeatedly get new gear, every few months just to compete. Also kinda takes the specialness away from the gear, as its ultimatly going to be replaced.
I can see where your coming from though, its just that theres only so many times I personally can attempt impossible tasks and find them amusing ^^ each to thier own.

Well, I was serious, but Sony's concept is a joke. Just another way to be # 1, involve real life money to display your virtual dominance.
"Thanks for your credit card number grandpa! Look! We pwn them all!"
http://www.allaboutgod.com/
WTF? Seriously, making a powerful character is a joke now. You should have played pre-BC when you had to raid hardcore or grind to Marshal/Warlord to be uber...and there was a VERY clear dividing line between raiders/pvp'ers and everyone else.
Those days are gone. Now everyone has the same gear, and it's ridiculously easy to get.

I did raid before BC and after until I left.
See I never said i didnt have alot of time to play a game I just started hating following a schedule.
It has nothing to do with no time to play, It has everything to do with following a schedule to get the best gear.
Understand now?
I never said I didnt have time to play, playing 40 hours a week was the norm for me back in the day.
It was following a raid schedule that got to me. The feeling of playing when other people wanted me to and scheduling my life around a raid schedule.
I found myself trapped and since I play games that let me play how and when I want I prefer them.
Needing to log into the game 3-5 times a week for raids, then 2-3 times a week for arena then a nightly heroic run with guildies. then scheduling runs with lowbies to help them.
It just gets to me.
Other games are like this also, in EQ and EQ 2 you had to follow schedules and Lotro also to some extent.
Edit: crap forgot to quote thradar

Thank you , I see captioning as an art unto itself.
Raiding is a beast. Takes forever to get people together, there's a bossy leader who tells you exactly what to do, everyone yells at you if you don't follow the script exactly, drop rates are so low that you have to run it fifty times, and oh you've lost the day spending 8 hours in a dungeon for no experience. Fabulous! Where do I sign? Not.

Wow is great because it gives everyone the chance to play it like he wants. No elitist gear anymore these days.
You don't have to raid, if you can have the best PvP gear in game by playing 10 hours a week in arena and BG's and you can beat up the latest raiding guys in PvP. Who needs to raid then ? Owing the guy with the legenday weapon is so much more fun. He has no life while I am a better player with equal gear.
My friend goes Wow fishing every weekend and even wins some fishing competition and walks around in greens and blues... and then wins....in Wow in the way he likes to play Wow.
Wow can be played in dozens of way. You only want to raid. Very few players only raid these days.
Thats mostly the pvp stuff though. for me my enjoyment was always the pve aspect of WoW.
It just feels more polished than pvp in the game.
I think its cool that pvp players could actually get the best gear for thier style of gameplay with no schedules. But its not for me I like the high tier pve stuff. I come from EQ so im a pve fanboi in mmos with a Endgame.
