I've been boycotting SoE since 2004, when they decided to add in game advertisements to Planetside. I don't pay a monthly fee to view advertisements thanks.
Does anyone have any website making skills? I just thought it would be nice to pass along the word through a site and have a center where people can talk and discuss an SOE boycott.
Easiest way to get the word out is to construct a blog (less cost to maintain, and easier to upkeep -- traditional websites take a long time to make and longer to get SEOed). The added benefit is, search engines prefer blogs, and there's more tools to promote a blog from scratch (e.g., Digg, Technorati, etc.).
Also, it allows anyone with even an ounce of internet knowledge to put up their own shingle. Suggest strongly to use Wordpress, as it's a blog standard with many modders who can help you customize it.
And if you can't find the help, sites like Rent-a-Coder can help you get one up in a cheaper manner and without the hassles of waiting on others to do it for you -- how many a special interest site (let alone game mod) fails as interest fades over time. This route is the best way, as your site will also have a professional polish on day one, which helps attract the news media (your best friend on these issues).
I just also want to say I'm really floored and amazed by all the support shown so far for an SOE boycott. You can continue to help and show support by spreading the word around wherever you can. Keep up the great work everyone! I strongly feel by banding together, we as players can make a significant impact and a difference to not only the current state of MMORPGs but also far more importantly for the future gamers.
I'm glad to see so many people standing up and being vocal about this boycott. Even if you've been SOE free for a few hours to a number of years you are doing your part to help! Anyone can make a difference.
Ea is hurting for money..They just had a massive lay off and cut backs..For a company that people say is doing so well..I guess the Headlines say different..Must be the top notch people need there Millions of dollars Christmas Bonus! So what we do is add the Item mall..haha
Some people rob you at gun point..Others will rob you at "Ball Point Pen"
I would also like to propose to make the month of February 2009, "We don't agree with RMT" month. So I would like to invite current SOE players that may enjoy SOE games but do not support RMT and want to make a statement to SOE about it, to log off for one month during Februrary. Please help get the word out!
How has it been effective with EA? They're still putting terrible DRM schemes in their games (brought to you by Sony ironically) and corporate still claims that the people who don't like it are a "minority." Sony in general, ESPECIALLY their entertainment devision, are famous for outright hating their fans and generally acting like elitest douchewagons, publicly no less. I doubt they care what anyone has to say about anything. They've been doing what they want to do and have been slowly killing the entertainment devision of Sony for the past few years. The only thing keeping it afloat right now is the electronics division and blu-ray dividends.

They just released a majority of its major titles on steam DRM free, I call that a major win.

I call that nothing special, they're still releasing their box titles with limited activations. Also, are you SURE its DRM free? Because last I checked, every game that used activations for their retail model retained them in their Steam versions, which is even more absurdly redundant, but yet it is still done. The only win here would be that they FINALLY got their head out of their ass and bowed out to Steam which they should have done in the first place rather than investing all that money into the monstrocity that is the EA store.

Well it still contains the DRM but your able to install it as many times as you want. Who the hell would buy box copies over buying off steam? >.>
Everyone hates soe for the NGE crap in swg and cant get over it.
In the last year I have played: lotr, vanguard, eq2, AOC and warhammer. Out of that list the two best right now at current state are EQ2 and Vanguard in my opinion(I see the Flames coming). Lotr and warhammer are great games but just didnt do it for me. AOC just needs help.
So as far as the soe boycott I guess I am not in, since I give the money for 2 accounts.
Im in, I quit EQ until they remove this cash shop, or I will sell my account.
FFXI for me until this is fixed.
Lol, hilarious this is what happened to me as well, quitting eq2 and all other SOE MMOs has freed me to once again enjoy Square and FFXI. There's some really nice updates too!!
Yes! Lets boycott MMO producers and kill of the industry, fabulous idea!
The MMO producers have killed the industry. Now it's time to stop paying for the crap they produce.
Exactly. Look at all the MMO crud that has been regurtitated to us since Everquest. The industry has gone completely stale, rather than innovations to improve gamplay they work on new payment methods. Its beyond ridiculous really and we as gamers simply do not have to take it anymore. We hold the power, not the MMO companies. Without the gamers these companies are nothing. We choose what to support and what not to. We have the choice of where to spend OUR hard earned money. And I for one choose not to support companies such as SOE or any other that continues to spew forth thier lies to gamers around the globe. In the end the MMORPG industry needs to be held accountable for its actions and ultimately we, the players, are the judges.
This is what inspired me to take action and startup this boycott. I hope that people who read this realize that the companies don't have any power, the power is with the people. And I think this realization is also far more important than any boycott. I hope not only the gamers, but the companies also come to this realization. SOE is a company that clearly has not.
I think boycotts like this are also especially important to make a statement to these companies during this time of economic troubles and any impact they have are greatly magnified in the current econmy. The time is now for players to make a statement as some of these companies that are already struggling are going to struggle even more in the near future to make their ends meet. If you want your voice heard loud and clear, the time is now.
It is so crystal clear to me how out of touch current MMO (I hardly ever use RPG anymore because these games don't deserve that distinction) companies are with the players. Especially the tyrant Smedley and his goons.

Sure worked for Spore DRM issue.
Thats actually a good idea, it certainly made an impact on EA's Spore sales when the word was quickly spread about its illegal DRM.
Also, here is where you can leave feedback about Star Wars Galaxies on Amazon:

Indeed, been that way for a long time.

Yeah, boycotting EA worked so well that they could only pay over $800 million to buy out Bioware.
I hate what they did to Earth and Beyond but I still enjoy BF1942 and other EA titles. Besides that, at the end of the day, its just a freakin' game.
"If we don't attack them, they will attack us first. So we'd better retaliate before they have a chance to strike"

Good on you, sir.
