AoC population/activity/interest have now been on the rise over the last 4 weeks. Everyones beloved Xfire statistics show higher activitynumbers than in a very very long time, and the holiday season is kind of over?? www.xfire.com/games/aoc/Age_of_Conan_Hyborian_Adventures/. Also looking on other games like WoW, LotRO, EVE and other less important MMOs AoC's trend of +15-20% pr week seem to stand out as special.
Also other media like iGoogle show increased number of searches/interest for Age of Conan www.google.com/insights/search/#q=Age%20of%20Conan%2CLord%20of%20the%20Rings%20Online&date=today%201-m&cmpt=q
Also numerous posts in the AoC official forums report of returning players and increased activity. Based on this it looks for sure like the FC team has something good going. It is however hard to quantify the size of this increase. It would be interesting to hear (from AoC players in particular) what kind of trend they see in game.
EDIT: ! instead of ?.

Very nice!
Yes i have seen alot of new players and old players that left at release that has come back to AOC.
really nice
So all of you who quited AOC many months ago now is a good time to return and give it a try again

Bear Grylls : I need to get out of this frozen hellhole!
Bear Grylls : (Holds a beetle in his hand) 4 times more protein then Beef
for the last and i mean realy last time xfire and igoogle arent accurate maybe its on the rise there but it could still be at a stalmate or decreasing the only way u can know for sure iis if funcome releases a how many players are subbed list
That's a good sign. I hope this game not only survives - but thrives. I wouldn't be surprised if the population increases after the server merges. No one like server merges but I think it *may* be good in the long run.
Although I would like to see a longer trend of increased numbers. The graphs provided seem pretty up and down and up and down. Are we just in an "up" time, with it soon to come down? I hope not but that seems to be the trend. We should revisit this topic next month and see how things are trending.
I hope it trends up. The trend history suggests otherwise. Lets hope for the best
I'm not creative enough to have a signature
AoC was #4 at some point and now it's #51. I don't think it's time to open up a bottle of champagne yet.
This very small increase in numbers is probably a combination of christmas holidays and Funcoms snow mammoth campaign.
What we need to do is look at the numbers one month from now to see if these new players are paying for a second month, or does history repeat itself and 95% of them quit.
I'll give it a try again when they give a veteran trial. I don't feel like shelling out a month's subscription fee to find out if things have improved - I'm cheap that way.
I make spreadsheets at work - I don't want to make them for the games I play.
That's a smart move. The amount of misinformation on this forum is just redicilous. It's funny how some posters here say the game is amazing and totally different now, and that you and all your friends should resubscribe today.

Also funny that some ppl dedicate theire time to piss and shit on a game they havent even tried,or just gave up after 1 week.
Not directed to you btw,but in general.Seems like ppl dont want competition for theire own games.I always tought competition was a good thing.
I know what you mean. A lot of people quit AoC after just a couple of weeks. One of my friends played for only 3 days until he got bored, lol Most of my friends quit after 1 month.
I've been playing since launch and still have an active account because I'm still waiting for that "miracle patch" that will make the game fun for me. I guess it's never coming so I don't think I will continue resubscribing after the 2 weeks I have left.
I probably should have quit long time ago but I waited AoC for so long time and I had such high hopes that I just couldn't accept that the game was not fun for me.
I agree with the need of competition. I would love to see a "WoW-killer". WAR had a very small chance of doing it but failed. AoC killed itself.
Actually the last week from Saturday the 27 to Saturday the 03 it looks like this
EQ2 - 23% increase
AoC 15% increase
LoTRO 12% increase
WoW 12% increase
and Warhammer had a 9 % increase
what will tell the tell is the numbers on the last week of the month. They are supposed to have the servers merged by then. If it does not happen I predict a pretty steep drop. If it does and there are no problems then they might see a increase.
Doesn't really matter anyway, AoC had it's big chance and blew it last spring. Right now about the best they can hope for is to maintain, they will never even one tenth of the numbers it could have had if it's launch had been better. The game could have had numbers as big as WoW considering it's initial sales.
I miss DAoC
So, Xfire numbers are completely worthless and innaccurate unless they are showing what you want them to show? Odd.
Oh well. I personally don't like to see a game with such a deceptive start succeed, but to each his own. The things I disliked about the game are still in the game, so I know I don't need to try it again.
Tried: LotR, CoH, AoC, WAR, Jumpgate Classic
Played: SWG, Guild Wars, WoW
Playing: Eve Online, Counter-strike
Loved: Star Wars Galaxies
Waiting for: Earthrise, Guild Wars 2, anything sandbox.
Yep people are coming back to try out the new changes and content, then after doing the new content which takes about 1-2 days to do, there canceling their accounts again...

I still attribute it to Christmas presents. Some used it to bought the game now that it is in the bargain bin and some are using it to test their new computer or video card. At anyt rate AoC did not grow at a more substantial rate than other games. EQII was the biggest anomoly. LOTRO, WOW and AoC weere all within coupel of points of each other. WAR had the least growth and EQII the most.

It's funny you mentioned EQ 2, about 80% of my guild went back to that game after trying WAR.... I tried to play EQ 2, but couldnt get into it...
I think my issue will be that that my very fist MMO I played was SWG and so I have a tendency to compare games to that sandbox style of game with a awesome crafting system that actually mattered in the game. So far every MMO i have played since just doesnt pull me into it like the original SWG did (even with all SWG faults)

I don't think you shall ever see another game like the original SWG, the overall design was pretty awesome. I like LOTRO and EQII but while their crafting is at least profitable and worthwhile they are nowhere near SWGs.

Yep, you know the crafting was awesome in SWG when people would get 3-4 extra accounts just so they could craft the various stuff.... I was paying $45 a month for my 3 accounts and I knew lots of other people who had multiple accounts just for crafting... It's a great testomony to how a crafting system should be done

All those games, EQ2, LotRO, SWG suck ass bigtime. lol. In my opinion that is.
I don't see a quantifiable trend, just selected data without a baseline, criterion or KPI to be used as the comparitive by which we'd be looking at the current set of data. Everything and I mean everything (including the negative) regarding subscriber populations is speculatory at best; and only Funcom knows that number in any detail.
As for Xfire, there are 137 more users than last month; as to whether this indicates the 236 hours per day means it's on the upswing towards its 80,000 hours per day xfire glory is in the eye of the beholder. As it stands xfire measures xfire users against their own data, and by no means is a direct correlation or representative of AoC's existing population (see above).
And as to the "less important mmo's" you refered to (indicating your bias); overall most all showed the same general increase in varying degrees when it came to playtime over the holiday season and that should be expected to carry through the next billing cycle; and at the very least until the same week in January before we talk about it meaning much of anything, if at all.
If you're going to make statements like FC has something good going on based on Xfires stats, you may as well say any MMO ranking higher than AoC's current #51 spot has something good going on and is inherently; according to Xfire users a better allocation of their time right?
In regards to the Google stats, if I run that timeline against another 2008 MMO using the most entered google term for it (Warhammer Online) and instead use the more frequently used Acronymn LOTRO instead Lord of The Rings Online, we see the following when the data is normed over 30 days worldwide:
Warhammer Online:78
LOTRO: 53
Age of Conan: 28 and with AoC: 30
Over 90 Days:
Warhammer Online:34
LOTRO: 14
Age of Conan: 9 and with AoC: 14
If your line of reasoning is to be used here, then it would indicate we're all better off taking a look at those games all those people on google are looking up over Age of Conan right? Not only are they ranking higher, but they also show the same trend in the last 4 weeks; so let's order our copies or resub right away right?
No, not by any means. You've posted long enough in this forum to know better.

No, not by any means. You've posted long enough in this forum to know better, and I can imagine that before this thread is done; you'll have replied with a more accurate reflection of what you really intended to talk about; along with some colorful commentary about how much any other MMO someone brings up as a refererence is just garbage.

First of all Sin, I think most of us will find this last post confusing. I got your message, which clearly was something along the lines of "OP is fake and not what it seems to be", but hey, thats always your respons so I don't really need to read to get that. Anyways, I will not respond to you, a troll with moderation rights, you have called me names in numerous other threads and little happens when I report you so lets make a deal... I'll ignore you and then hopefully you can ignore me.
I don't think your post was fake at all Orionman. The context of the message was and is:
And lastly, that I believe you as a person who's had this discussion on this forum on many occasions; know the outcome of topics that have no substantiated data to support them. It's my way of saying that given your ability to put together information, you could really make positive use of that ability with this particular audience by providing a framework for discussion; instead of rehashing the same conversation.
I respect your opinion believe it or not, I just don't agree with the manner in which its expressed at times; or the manner presented.
As to your other item, I'm not a moderator, correspondent, volunteer or part of the MMORPG.COM staff. I post from only 2 ips, (my blackberry and home pc); and have only this account to speak of. If you feel that I'm not abiding by the RoC, send me a PM with what the specific issue is; or if you're not comfortable with that, send an email to community@mmorpg.com with your concerns.
In the interim, I'll go back and take out 1-2 lines that don't really speak to my talking points; especially if you feel that they take away from the context of the conversation.
OrionMan, your a known fanboi. I stopped reading when I saw your nick..
Less propaganda for the people kkthxbye

Here is also something to think on. Since I have just seen AoC selling at $8.99 in the Target bargin bin, i'd be willing to bet that the gold farmers are actually buying multiple copies at the very low price that the game is selling at. Now, instead of buying 1 copy of the game at $50 they can now get 5 or 6 copies and open 5 or 6 more accounts than usual in order to better sell their gold.
Now, I am not saying that this is what is happening but if I ran a gold farmer business and I could increase my farmer accounts by 5 fold for no additional cost then that is what I would do.
I'm hoping to be returning to Age of Conan soon too. It's going to be a great game and I can't wait to play it.
What's stopping you from returning?
