a delay would pretty much be the final blow to this game. They have a better chance launching it with bugs then delaying it again at this point. The community has withstood many "delays of their finished product", i don't think another would help at all.

not really
Aventurine already has NO respect from the mmo community, due to the many lies and heavily misleading statements they have made, I'm sure another delay won't hurt them much at all.
Even if people leave, a HUGE MAJORITY of them will come right back when the game is about to release again, sure, people like OP may leave, but that's actually something to celebrate about.
That being said, they are probably going to release on jan 22, this is the only hard release date they have EVER had, and they said that when they set a release date, they stick to it. But there is info that beta is behind a week, so meh maybe open beta is on 22nd, instead of the release.
In DF gear will be somewhat easy to replace. Most gear people are going to use will be made by crafters and very few people will be using the very few and actual finite epics (the epics in the game are actually going to be epic because only like 10 people will have them). What this means is if you are guilded regearing may take an hour tops while you help your crafter get the material, or seconds if the gear is premade. If you aren't guilded it will be a little more complicated, but most players will have a stash of cash for regearing. Not to mention that gear isn't suppose to be the focus of this game and it will have a player skill>gear system similar to AoC, but making gear matter more than it does in AoC. I think they'll reach a happy balance.
Thnx for the info. It sounds a bit better now, but still not enough IMO. I wish they would remove item dependancy completely, meaning you dont care if you get ganked and lose your items. I still dont want to wait 1 hour to make my gear, thats 1 hour Im not playing (assuming I could even find a crafter).
As I mentioned before, best PvP system I ever encountered is in Planetside: where you can loot items from corpses, but those items do not cost anything, when you respawn, you can get them for free immediately. So griefing is pretty much meaningless, you just respawn somewhere else and you dont lose anything. Death, however, is not meaningless - you lose precious seconds respawning, and that affects tactical situation around you. This system made PvP very dynamic, fun and involving. People are not afraid to go 1 on 1, or even 1 on 5. With even a slightest gear dependency, this may drastically and negatively change PvP.
I am the type of player where I like to do everything and anything from time to time.
Dude, this is a niche game. It was meant to be a niche game. That means the "griefers" NEED A HOME TOO! Yes, in your eyes the game will be ruined, but "to each his own". Ever heard that phrase? Edit: I hope you get a taste of the DF community, at least on this site. My answer will probably be, overall, the nicest. Though they won't openly say things like "Go home or back to WoW you carebear noob, just cuz you don't like full PvP and corpse looting doesn't mean IT DOESN'T ROCKS!", they might imply them. Go Fanbois, show this heathen what you're made of
LOOK at the BIG picture. So then you have griefers vs griefers?WHAT do the losers become?you know the lower half of griefers who cannot beat the upper half of griefers?
They become bitter and want revenge,so they look for RMT sites to power level them a high level player,or go to that famous cheat site[TU] i won't name it.OR they just quit,so now you got 50% less players, then that group gets divided then again and again until no players left.Welcome to FURY online[fail]or that other game where you could become the overall ruler of the game,no matter i can't remember the name ALL these games FAIL bigtime, there is NOT a place for these niche games, because they have all failed LARGE.

Well said. IF the main goal of DF to be open unrestricted PvP, this will promote, or at least wont restrict, griefing. And that will result in what you explained above. That is my biggest beef up to day with DF.
Open PvP is extremely hard to implement, well, a good open PvP anyway. As far as I know, there was only one game that was completely open pvp and that saw moderate success: Planetside. Unfortuantely, its not even an MMORPG, its MMOFPS. Maybe DF will be the first. But, judging from history, from lack of solid information, lack of major funding behind the game, the odds are stacked highly against it. I hope I am wrong though, I would really like to play another Planetside, maybe even a better Planetside.
I am the type of player where I like to do everything and anything from time to time.

The only people who will be afriad to to actually fight are newbies and people that aren't in guilds. It will be a good system, but best to give it a shot.
I happen to like the idea of FFA. It will kind of remind me of Conquer Online. PvP wasn't so bad you couldn't play but it did keep you on your toes. Outside of full loot Conquer had a similar FFA system. It was always good to be in a respected guild with good allies. I think the same will prob be the same in DF. The advantage DF will have is the size of the world. I think after everyone gets their pvp kicks out of the way and actually form up guilds the pking will be less FFA. You'll prob have to go through your guild leaders or officers to confirm a kill. Unless of course your in a guild that is kill all lol.
Does your alignment change back to good over time in DF? I had my mass murdering days in Conquer but it was nice knowing after some hrs logged in I would become nuetral again.
This thread is made of fail, FAIL, FAIL, FAIL! If you don't like full loot then GTFO of Darkfall because even the devs don't want to listen to your whiney cry baby self.

ummmm you see the thing is... well most of the info that is out seems make Aventurine/Tasos to be pvp ganker themselves... I guess one might say that DF is a pvp mmo made by gankers for gankers in mind... just curious but have you read Tasos past interviews... it's made quite clear... also seems DF is especially designed for pvp guild dominance... so DF should be epic pvp w/ massive battles in a grand scale... now it just needs to release and subscribers to fill the world w/ ganking playes, both solo artists and guildeez alike.
Its sad that people think this is a game just for the FFA PvP crowd. I never played a FFA PvP game before. I played Dark Age of Camelot (the best PvP game to date) and I am looking forward to the PVE content in this game, and the sense of community, more than anything else. Anyone who is a fan of old MMOs, EQ, UO, DAoC, AC, should be in love with this game.

There's pve content in the game but that's not DF's main focus... the players will be the content in this type of environment and Guilds will play a strongly influencial roll... at least according to Tasos' past interviews.

Thats good - Chicks only like guys with great skills. But do you also have sweet dance moves?
Waiting for: A skill-based MMO with Freedom and Consequence. Woe to thee, the pierce-ed.
Delay the game? I don't know enough of the game state to actually knew if that is needed or not.
I rather see they delay it than release it as an unfinnished product but while I read some beta leaks about buggs I havn't read anything worse or better than other MMOs and those leaks are a few weeks old so it is really impossible to say for anyone not in the beta.
I don't find the silence positive but maybe they don't have a real marketing department, that wont really matter for the game even though sales might be slow initially. On the other hand is Arenanet not much good at marketing and they do well, salespersons usually lie anyways.
The silence can of course be becuase they have something to hide but I really don't have enough info to answer this question and neither do most of you.
Nobody else even bother replying to this failed attempt at trolling, the op is making this thread to take the piss, that is obvious. He's probably that tenspotting cocksucker who has no life atall, just likes to try to wind people up on forums.

Your theory has merit, but it is still just a theory. The real issue is, even if this game does encourage or does not discourage griefers, how hard is to avoid griefers? Lets say Im ona quest, I get jumped by 5 griefers and they kill me and loot me. Since (at least thats the impression Ive got) the items im wearing are easily replacable, I dont worry about that. Now, what I worry about is how easy for me to move out of the area and continue doing my quest. Is it easy? Or am I stuck waiting for douchebags to leave the area so I can continue with my adventures?
I am the type of player where I like to do everything and anything from time to time.
I dislike the idea of full-loot, actually. Take the bank thing, for example...you can attack anyone anywhere, including cities. So, people are going to be attacking others at the banks. But the guards will protect you...right? Wrong. What will REALLY end up happening is a small group of very skilled players will keep attacking anyone who come to the bank, while one person of to the side does nothing but loot dead bodies. That way, you get to grief AND keep the loot. THIS WILL HAPPEN. And probably often...just look at EVE and gate camping.
If you dont want full corpse looting good thing there are 7 billion games out there taht are all alike with no full corpse looting.
DF will succeed becuase it takes the %$^%$^%$ training wheels off. Getting ganked at a bank? Go to a different bank or find someone or a group of someones to protect you while you bank.
this game wil lbe dog eat dog ala UO something some of these gamers havent experience becaues they werent born yet. If you dont like it go back to ___.
Please let this game go. Let it fail so these stupid fans will stop arguing about idiot problems.
why don't you stop arguing w/ it's fanbase, it's fans don't bother anyone nor try to incite trolling or hate, like your post obviously does... we fans wouldn't argue if you guys would just scram and get a clue
just a point in fact...
for the past year, it's been nothing but DF-fanbois trolling nearly every forum of every game on tons of different sites. what wold someone on a stargate worlds site care about df? what would someone on co or sto care about df? yet, darkfall fanbois believe that df is much better than those games and many others that aren't even fantasy genre.
could we please get correspondent writers and moderators, on the eve forum at mmorpg.com, who are well-versed on eve-online and aren't just passersby pushing buttons? pretty please?
You either 1: Don't intend on playing the game anyway so you are just trolling or 2: You want to play the game to PK ppl, but don't want to be penalized for it. If this game turns out the way it claims to be, than pking and getting pk'd will have consequences worse than getting some resurrection sickness . If ya can't handle it, than don't play it.

I am the type of player where I like to do everything and anything from time to time.

You'd use send there...
And probably often...just look at EVE and gate camping.
heheh just like the Pre trammel UO whine.
If you dont like it go back to ___.
why don't you stop arguing w/ it's fanbase, it's fans don't bother anyone nor try to incite trolling or hate, like your post obviously does... we fans wouldn't argue if you guys would just scram and get a clue
just a point in fact...
for the past year, it's been nothing but DF-fanbois trolling nearly every forum of every game on tons of different sites. what wold someone on a stargate worlds site care about df? what would someone on co or sto care about df? yet, darkfall fanbois believe that df is much better than those games and many others that aren't even fantasy genre.
could we please get correspondent writers and moderators, on the eve forum at mmorpg.com, who are well-versed on eve-online and aren't just passersby pushing buttons? pretty please?
You either 1: Don't intend on playing the game anyway so you are just trolling or 2: You want to play the game to PK ppl, but don't want to be penalized for it. If this game turns out the way it claims to be, than pking and getting pk'd will have consequences worse than getting some resurrection sickness . If ya can't handle it, than don't play it.
