The lack of an open beta, the refusal of Aventurine to provide access to the game to any of the media can only lead to one conclusion. This game is a disaster waiting to happen.
I have tried to be positive about this game and company, but the refusal by Aventurine to allow anyone to actually play and review the game can't indicate anything good.
I will actually be shocked if it releases on the 22nd. Even if it does, you can expect lots of nonworking features. It is clear the game is far from ready to be released.
Only time will tell what will happen with this game, but Aventurine will be used as a case study by many on how not to develop a MMO.
"I never said that public beta would be two weeks. I said several weeks. Public beta will be as long as it needs to be. We hope and we're working hard so that it won't need to be very long. The clan beta will likely be a stage of public beta. The announcement of launch within the year is an official company commitment and it's not a guestimate. We're making strides with publishing in the direction where we maintain full creative control on the game."
Nice, honest guy there... yup, always sticks by his word.
If you call mmorpg.com the vast majority of the darkfall community, then sure, they won't buy it. But truth is, it's the haven for darkfall trolls, now if you go on the real forums....Youd probably get told "Shut up they told us enough!".
I disagree.
The Official forums have many more trolls than these forums do. Yes, they also have many more fans as well. But atm anyway... the dissenters seem to be in the majority over on the Official forums.
Keeping the NDA up till the release is a bad sign, i think the recent AoC fiasko showed us why. I wonder if there will be Reviews from Gaming magazines/portals at Launch.
Does anyone know if the press even have access to the Beta?
Well all things considered, this game wont turn out like AoC. By that I mean there wont be a huge amount of suckers who buy it at launch. If anything that was the 1 good thing AoC did for this industry. It helped bring about more customer awareness.
Caveat Emptor.
I'm pretty sure that myself and most people here will continue to watch these forums post 'launch' until we see some tangible proof that the game meets a certain standard before deciding on whether to invest.
Currently waiting for the MMO industry to put out something good.

STFU U NO NOTHING N STUFF, DF RULES!!!
Lol, joking man, yeah I pretty much agree with you. I think the signs SHOULD be pretty clear that this game is gonna be disaster, and that the only MMO its gonna beat is DnL in its suckiness.
I would just advise everyone to not rush and pay Aventurine before seeing the product on live.
The rules of Debate are really simple; once you have to stoop to insults instead of facts, logic, or reason to try and win your argument, you've lost.

Yes but you haven't seen the fanbois then. I've actually seen some of them indirectly admit that they'll play DF at launch even if it's crap just because they've been waiting for it for SOOO LONG.
There's a difference between trying a game at launch because you are honestly interested in it, and then deciding whether to stay subbed or not, and buying a game at launch because you've waited SOOO LONG and then playing it even if Aventurine comes over and calls you a sucker and kicks you in the nuts and takes all your cash.
Skeptics and other normal people will definitely wait.
-------------------------------------- A human and an Elf get captured by Skaven. The rat-men are getting ready to shoot the first hostage with Dwarf-made guns when he yells, "Earthquake!" The naturally nervous Skaven run and hide from the imaginary threat. He escapes. The Skaven regroup and bring out the Elf. Being very smart, the Elf has figured out what to do. When the Skaven get ready to shoot, the Elf, in order to scare them, yells, "Fire!"
I've always taken the standpoint of being a fence-sitting skeptic with a touch of hopefulness till the game launches. If it's not what Aventurine says I'll just stick to my f2p games.

Things happen during internal testing, and of course beta that could delay it further. All an A.P. can go by is their scheduled launch. If an 11th hour "show stopper" bug appears, it could delay past 22nd. That in-and-of-itself is not Tasos' fault, it's just the nature of the beast so to speak. Some would say it would be bad luck if a "show stopper" is found, but I'd rather they find it, delay the game, and fix then leave in a potentially fatal bug at launch.

Im a skeptic, and im buying at release if there is no free to try beta/trial.
You my friend, are wrong.
why you might ask?
I got the cash to spend, i want to see for myself how the game is, not read some worshippers "unbiased" review or some haters review (even if he didnt play the game more then 5mins at a friends hous).
If i remember and have time ill try to post my thoughts on the game here on mmorpg.com.
My predictions?
Ill not play it longer then a week is my realistic best hope. Theres 2 reasons:
1: Im a hardcore sucker for animations (running, jumping, CASTING, SHOOTING, etx) and the vids so far isnt primesing at all.
2: Wrath of the Lichking turned WoW around and for the first time since the release days i can actually say i play wow becouse i like it again and not becouse of friends >_> (Ok so its still the same old, but unthill Aion and EvE: WiS comes around i doubt anything will drag me away)
But as they say, Hope is the last thing that leaves the human spirit! Tasos! Tasos!

Actually I was quoting him more for the part I high-lighted in red.
Apparently Public Beta doesn't need to be that long anymore... heh.
Doesn't "several" generally imply "more than two" anyway? Two weeks would be a couple...one week would be, well, one week. His quote would imply nearly a month, or more, of open beta. Hell, at this point, they can't even run a "several week" beta and even make the release date.
Not that any of this matters. I mean....Tasos basically said they didn't "need" a beta anyway. Regardless of how true this could possibly be (I'm among those that believe that a large group of average users will find more exploits and more bugs than most seasoned professionals simply because they do not have a "conditioned" way to approach gaming in general) it does stand to reason that he probably doesn't care one way or the other about it.
He was probably only doing a beta at all to shut his fans up. Mark my words, that choice WILL cost them dearly. Evidence from any other game I've followed suggests that any content not thouroughly tested by outside, and unbiased, players is always busted. Of course, then again, so is many of the things they DO test. Its lose-lose really. All I know is that, if I were making what could be the most revolutionary concept in the last few years a reality, I'd want as much testing from as many sources as I could manage.
Twelve days to go, does not give enough time for an open beta. My guess is they will either not have an open beta or the lauch will be delayed
they can do an open beta for a few days its plenty of time
Or for several weeks just like You and Tasos have said for months now!
Oh cmon, we all know theyve already tested and fixed everything with their super duper state of the art AI. Hopefully said AI can help keep the game afloat by paying into the subscription pot too.
To thoes of you thinking they dont need to lift the NDA or release more info I would have to disagree with you.
DF offers many, many great things.
AoC offered many, many great things. It failed to deliver on most of thoes things. It held the NDA and all we had to go on was hype.
WAR sounded great. Hell I hyped it and I was in beta. WAR dropped the NDA later than even the devs said it should be dropped if they feel confident in the game.
Dont use the excuse that they dont want to spoil the suprise for the players. If you dont want to know what your getting into DONT read the information. Thats your choice. My choice any many other MMO players who have been burnt on recent releases or just plain burnt out on the typical MMO genra recently want to know what the game REALLY offers before we spend money on it. Granted for thoes of us we wait now instead of jumping in at release but the lack of an NDA drop doesnt sit well after AoC.
On the bright side if DF doesnt drop NDA I still have a few months to catch up on console games till actual reviews come out on DF release instead of the hype before hand.
