Why is everybody leaving AoC?

The mass exodus happened a long time ago (including myself).  What's left are the stragglers that are holding out some kind of hope that the game improves.  If a game doesn't have me in the first 30 days...I never come back.  Too much other stuff to try.

AoC released when there were no real alternatives other than WoW. They tried to time it for that purpose, to beat the release dates of WAR and WoW expansion. Soon after AoC's release, alternatives came, and they were much better. Throughout 2009, even more alternatives will be released that will offer genuinely new experiences and gameplay, causing still more players to leave AoC behind.

Even a monkey could be successful at a business if there is little to no competition.  AoC at release proves this. But when people have options, they leave the worst and migrate to whats better. AoC just happens to be the worst. Too bad for Funcom. No one will miss them.

Waiting for: A skill-based MMO with Freedom and Consequence.
    Woe to thee, the pierce-ed.

Funny that the so called stragglers are a decent number and experiences changes and improvements for the better.

Such a loss for those - oh so many in this thread who left half a year ago.

AoC is a viable alternative now to the same old newly released stale formatted games.

Well the server merge should have happen just after launch and we all new it would happen but Funcom just took its time. It means nothing now. I have seen more people joining than leaving which is a good thing. I dont mean masses joining but slowly.

I understand how one can see people joining, because unfamiliar names and low levels will start showing up in game and in chat. But how do you see people leaving? Half the server could up and leave and most wouldn't realize it, in large part due to instancing cutting up the populations anyway. Usually those that leave just stop logging in - they don't leave signs that they have done so.

You have to remember your talking about people on the internet.  They leave signs of everything they do because they think everyone cares what they do.  In every MMO theres always "I'm leaving because" threads lol.

Just kidding but man I really hate those things.

  • Because Funcom has lost our trust. Doesnt matter if the game is awesome now or not. They played us around before the launch promising alot and delivered nothing in the end.

Along with the problems others mentioned, lack of end-game, crafting sucking, lame economy, I'll add that the pve leveling to 80, while fun, was limited. You had to do almost all the quests available to get to 80. Which meant if you re-rolled, you were going to be doing for the most part all the same quests all over again.

I admit the game could be better, hell for all I know it could be awesome, but based on the way FC conducts itself you be a fool to pay to find out.

If the game is better, let FC back it up with a free client/trial period. Not linked to buddy keys.

you can easily get a new box for $2 which includes a free month.

I paid just over $4 (wish shipping) to be able to play.  It was cheaper than reactivating my old account.  I haven't really played any characters, just checked out chat and server populations.   A lot of the people coming back are just curious.  Probably if the main reason you quit was because of client crashes back in June, you may stay.  But people are still saying 'endgame' sucks.    Leveling is better though, no real grind spots.

Still I think my point is valid. If FC thinks they have a winner, let them back it up with a free client download and trial period.

The first 20 levels are great, but it plays EXACTLY like a single player game.  After that, you go to a new map every 10 levels, and people mostly solo.
I'm not going into the horrible decision making of rthe developers since launch, but the community overal has been dissapointed.
Bottom line, AOC doesnt seem to have longevity necessary for people to stay into the MMO.

At lauch 65 active players in guild 8 months on 26

After server merge i hope we can get a few more signed up
